  1. thanks RW I :Dwas planning on buying a jig rod but am seriously considering gettting 2 legend elites, at that price they are kinda hard to pass up. EC66mf or EC68mxf and ES66mf This is such a hard descision I already have a AC66mf and MB783 for baitcasters and a crucial 66mlf for a jig rod, so I want to make sure to get something that compliments what I have not competes with them. When jigging for walleye i use 2 rods a lot so I would like to get something similar to the crucial. My thought is that I could make the Avid my cranking rod, I know some guys on this forum have said it works good for that application.
  2. man for that kind of money I am not sure I like the new grips. At reeds for $180 is a steal, you can hardly buy a crucial for that.
  3. That was my thought but they are out of stock. Also all the legend elite rods are $120 off. Is st. croix changing something with these that they would sell them so cheap. Are the legend elite rods that much better than the tournament elite rods?
  4. what do you think should I go with I am going to get a jigging rod 1 of the following rods Legend Elite: es60mlf es66mf Tournament Elite: tws63mxf tws66mlf tws60lf I will use it primarily for walleye and smalley jigging with grubs, minnows and small plastics
  5. thanks for the info I just checked out their site and they have all their rods 20% off except for loomis (10%) if anybody needs some new stix check it out www.reedssports.com
  6. with all the fad being making the most sensitive, light rods possible what is the effect on hoop strenght. It only makes sense that the more sensitive you make something the more rigid and brittle it will become. Has anyone experienced this. In my looking for a new jig rod I have become even more confused on what to get because of this debate. Yes you want sesitivity but not at the cost of strenght/durability. I have been told by several people that the St. Croix tournament elite rods are quit brittle and have a tendancy to break at the tip, which makes sense if you think about it. So where is the balance? Is a rod like the cumara the answer with the blend of weight, sensitivity, and strength or is it a carrot stix. Being someone who like to find out answers to questions before I spend my money on something I would appreiated any and all input on the subject. Thanks
  7. I tried pm ghoti and it said no such member existed.
  8. Has anyone tried these. They are in the price range of the St. Croix Tournament Elite or loomis IMX, just wondering I am looking for a new jigging rod and came across their website. i had my mind set on a Tournament elite but thought I would check out these rods also. Any other suggestions for a jigging rod?
  9. I am getting a new jigging rod for walleye. I have looked at the loomis walleye series and the st. croix tournament walleye series. Does anyone own these? What do you think? is there anything else that you would recommend. I have a crucial right now and just need a second rod. what about the tech elite walleye series? Please help.
  10. I have a 843 not a 844, I don't use a lot of heavy lures so I haven't spent the money on a really good heavy action rod yet.
  11. I am looking to purchase a couple new rods this year and wondering if anybody has some thoughts on brand and lnie ie: Avid, Mojo, IMX I have 2 avids and 2 IMX right now. i am very open to suggestions. I don't need them for any particular application, just time for a few new stix. I have been looking at the GBlanks, B and R Outlaw, Grandt, and of course the good ol standby loomis and croix. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks
  12. A while back someone posted a link to a $15 off coupon to Dicks and I cannot find that thread, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. I was told by the local shimano rep that there was no charge for bringing in a broken rod to get it exchanged, no matter where you took it. Sounds to me like the tackle shop made a little extra scratch at your expense. :-[
  14. I would start with a mono like trilene XT it is cheap, strong and is fairly easy to femove backlashes from. Braid works good but you have to worry about reel adjustments more and backlashes can be a pain to get out. If you start with mono in 10#-15# you will be able to switch to flouro or braid within a couple months and not risk headaches.
  15. I have a heavy 7ft fish eagle II casting and 2 med hvy for trolling for walleye. The trolling rods work great, very strong. However the casting rod feels like a 2x4 (no sensitivity whatsoever). They all feel like they are made of fiberglass, which means they will be tough as nails but you can't feel much on them. Just my opinion. For the price not a bad combo, you can always upgrade the rod later. Awesome reel.
  16. I don't think you will find a better deal than $56 for that kind of quality.
  17. Would someone please please post the website to get to DG's custom rods. I found it once but now I can't
  18. We had an unbelievable day and 1/2 on Lake St. Claire. Friday afternoon and saturday landed over 300 smallie. over 140 were in the 3 to 4lb range and more that forty were in the 5plus range including several 6.5 and 7's. I have never experienced samllmouth fishing like that before it was incredible. I wnet with a group of guys from my church we had 5 boats with 14 guys. It was a real blast. I want to sent out a big thank you to the member of this forum who pointed us in the right directioin on the lake, you know who you are. I will definitely be going back it was great. 1st pic is me then my uncle and last my grandfather. http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/coolhandlala/DSC02043.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/coolhandlala/DSC02041.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/coolhandlala/DSC02044.jpg
  19. I fished Lake St. Claire above the river from erie. It was awesome. We had a group of 5 boats and landed over 300 smallies. 145 were in the 3-4lb range and another 40 where well over 4 and some as big as 7. The biggest was 7lb11oz. I have never had time on the water like that. We fished fri night and all day sat. and it was amazing. We also boated 6 musky, 2 walleye, and more rockbass than we could count. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk301/coolhandlala/DSC02043.jpg
  20. I have had good success with wiggle warts, shad raps, red eyed shad, and X-raps. like stated above anything with color and a nice wiggle should work.
  21. For the $100 go with the shimano in that price range they are light sensitive and have a lifetime warranty. Also if it breaks you aren't limited to taking it back to just a BPS, but any place shimano is sold.
  22. I bought 1 pro qualifier and the tip snapped off on the first cast. I traded it for a crucial
  23. I have a dropshot rod with the rating mag lite. It has a real soft tip and a ton of backbone. I actually have used it for small cranks as well.
  24. Just do a google search for "cooks of oregon custom rods" you can't beat getting an IMX custom made for under $200
