  1. Thanks for the feedback Banor, I just might have to give 1 a try. I am looking for a walleye jigging rod and had my heart set on a Legend Elite or IMX but for 1/2 the price I might have to go with the Outlaw.
  2. I'd be interested to hear some detail on these statements. -what "newest" technology? -100% made in the USA? Did you mean blanks? or rods? made or assembled? if all "made" here, what components are being used? I can try to answerre your questions but remember my info comes form the owner and I am sure it contained a little salesman pitch in it. 1. Newest Technology- he said this about how their blanks are wrapped and formed to allow maximum strength, sensitivity and for the diameter of the blank to remain very small. To me this is if not all, a lot of salesmans talk, which is why I am asking the questions in the original post on this thread. 2. Rods are assembled in the US, he said the only parts not "made in the USA" are the Fuji guides and reel seats, because he doesn't think there is a US product that matches the quality of fuji. Makes sense to me. Like I said I am just passing on info from him. Sounded intriguing so I though it was worth hearing what others had to say.
  3. Does anybody have this rod. What is the difference betweeen the SJR line and SR line? Found a smoking deal on a sr782-1 but not sure if it has enough backbone for anything except panfish or trout, I can't hold the rod in my hand to tell for myself so I need some opinions. What is the difference between the worm and jig rod and the MB rods specifically the GLX lines. I am looking to get something in that 784, 844 area and just wondered what is the difference besides the inch or 2
  4. when I spoke to the owner he said they made them themselves and they are made different than any other blank out there with the newest technology, and they are 100% made in the USA. He was so confident in the rods he said I buy them and if I didn't like them he would pay the return shippingfor me to send them back and give me a full refund.
  5. it was kinda a joke. ;D Every new rod company claims to be as good as Loomis or St. Croix or even better, they always try to draw comparisons to the best, but wait and see who is around in 50 yrs. I don't think they would move overseas either, but would it really shock anybody IF they did? not me.
  6. Has anyone heard of these or tried them? I found their website yesterday and was intrigued by it, so I called Robert the owner and spoke with him for almost 1 hr about their rods. He claims they are every bit as sensitive and light as a GLX but are more durable. I could tell he is very passionate about his product and he explained the special way they wrap their blanks so they can make them ultra sensitive but not sacrifice strength. Now obviously he is going to try to sell his rods but from all his claims I am very close to ordering 1 to try. For $129 if they are as good as he says they are, Loomis better watch out, especially since shimano bought them out and it is only a matter of time before they move production over seas. That is one thing that I did like about his rods is they are mode here in the USA. Just curious if anyone has seen them at a show or fished one.
  7. I will give ya that our cabela's in Michigan have crappy fishing departments.
  8. I am not a huge fan of private label anything, but I would choose cabelas over BPS anytime. I am just not a fan of BPS. I have a couple friends that all they fish are cabelas XMLti rods and they swear buy them. I have tried them and they are sweet for the money and you can't beat the warranty. I would compare the XMLti rods to an Avid, without the name. Now because they don't have the name they "add" on some things like a dual touch reel seat and recoil guide, if you get into that sort of thing. Just curious why you have chosen to go private label over a St. Croix, Loomis, or Shimano? For less money you could get an Avid or Crucial or for about the same money jump to the Legend Tournament, IMX, or cumara.
  9. I have found it depends on the actual rod and company that makes the rod. You can buy a mod action rod that has a fairly firm tip and on the other hand I have a St. Croix legend elite 68mxf (extra fast) that has a nice soft tip to it so it is hard to make a generalization about it either way. This is why it is hard to buy a rod from a catalog that you can't physically give a shake.
  10. just wondering what most guys use for lipless cranks.
  11. On ebay right now they are going anywhere from $70-$90.
  12. x3 on the avid, they are hands down the best rod for the money IMO I know a little more than you range but wait a couple weeks if you have to you will be glad you did. Otherwise look for one on ebay. I think this avid is exactly what you want and is a great price. Great rod for plastics. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1235588642
  13. About the action, They said that their action is a little spower than a loomis. I want one I can use for jigging for walleye and they said the spin/jig blanks had a action more similar to a loomis so I think that may be the way I go.
  14. RW you would be proud. After many restless nights I decided to go with the MG51 from TW for $164 I just ordered 2. I wanted 1 more but will start with 2 and if I like them I will get another. I was looking at revos, zillions and MGs but in the end I am used to the cent brake and I borrowed a friends revo and just didn't care for the brake. Hopefully TW has the 51 for a few weeks yet so I can pick up another. Thanks to everyone for all your input.
  15. I want to make a rod and need some help. 1. Are the kits from Cabelas a good way to start? 2. Who makes good blanks to use? 3. How much time should it take to make a rod. 4. Is it something I can realistically do and make look good?
  16. Just wondering what everyone thought about them. I want to try to make my own rod from scratch and found these and they sell the blanks. I would love to make a loomis but I don't want to ruin a $150 blank on my first rod.
  17. The ones we have here are the select as well. I don't recall seeing any that were a specific jerbait rod. However the ones that I played around with have quit soft tips and you could get the 66m and it would be fine.
  18. St. Croix Legend Elite 68mxf Daiwa Sol Berkley Trilene 100% Flouro 10lb Stike King Coffee Tubes
  19. I use steel or 60# mono leaders and haven't had any trouble with either, I actually prefer the mono for topwater or cranks.
  20. you can hardly buy a 7'6" 2x4 for that what do you have to lose ;D
  21. BPS has some rods going on sale for about $50 next week. I think the bionic is @$50 that would be a step up from the lightening rod.
  22. You still get what you pay for. I it seems like private label rods (cabelas, BPS, Gander mtn. etc) use modules to measure the quality and price of a rod. If you have read anything about rods that is a hard way to compare rods because there is no universal measurement and there are different qualities of graphite as well. Companies like St. Croix, Loomis, Shimano rarely say anything about the modules count they let their reputation speak for themselves. I am not saying you get crap with a private label rod, but there is a reason 1 rod sells for $80 and another sells for $280, the real question is, is the extra money worth it to YOU!!!!! Get the rod that fits your budget and the purpose you are going to use it for and you will be happy with it. By the way I chose St. Croix because that is the rod I CHOOSE to fish, but it is all personal preference-- st croix customer service is awesome and they have totally won me for life.
  23. I was in a tackle shop last week and they had some zillions on the shelf, so I asked them what they thought. They said they had had several brought back already due to breakage. Could be just a weird thing, but that is never a good sign. I held one next to a cumara and although the zillion looks way sweeter the cumara was lighter and I thought had better action. The zillion felt really really still. I don't know I think when you get to that price range it is al personal opinion. JMO
