How Old?
I believe I was around 46 at the time @papajoe222. It was early spring, wind howling out of the NW at 30+ mph and my buddy and I had taken the day off and drove over an hour to the ramp. Then we had a discussion we’ve all had given the circumstances. Going back to work really wasn’t an option, we couldn’t do anything about the conditions, and we’re here so let’s go fishing. I picked up my swimbait rod at our first stop and with the help of the wind I was getting some serious distance on my casts. I watched a fish created a “bulge” in the water that headed straight for my swimbait and landing it was I was surprised to find it weighed close to 7 pounds. Pretty much kept that rod in my hands the rest of the day, and I’m glad I did. When the big girl hit, all I could say was “it’s big, get the net” as the fight was on! After getting her in the boat, she weighed in at 11.7lbs took a quick photo and released…

Definitely some fun figuring things out with all those variables you mentioned Elias, and then everything changes. Definitely look forward to seeing some pictures posted in “the latest catch picture” thread. Again, welcome to BR and good fishing!

Any smokers out there(?)
As you mentioned @DaubsNU1, a lot of family members and friends smoked, including myself. It was socially acceptable, even in high school there were designated student smoking areas and you could have a smoke while going to your next class. When my youngest started D.A.R.E. in school, she would show me pictures of cancerous lungs and ask me to quit whenever I’d step outside to have a smoke. Now how could I ask my kids not to drink, smoke cigarettes or dope if I couldn’t quit smoking when they asked as it was important to them? BTW, I still have my last pack of smokes as a reminder…

Water temperature in the upper 70’s, air temperatures trying to reach triple digits and drought conditions contribute to turn the delta’s waters a fluorescent shade of green daily. Even though every day on the water now looks like a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the fish don’t really seem to mind. In some ways, the worse the algae bloom gets the more aggressive the bass became. This 3.85lber smashed a crankbait and was my best fish of the day…

Fixing a Weak Hookset
First thing that popped into my mind @Catt ? In all seriousness @Buzzbaiter, make sure your hooks are as sharp as possible. A good hook file can save you money in the long run versus always replacing dull hooks.

Boat Trailer Steps
I think you’ll like the Trick Step @Captain Phil, makes it easy to get in and out of the boat without acrobatics around the trolling motor, graphs, and fishing rods. It can be installed by one person in roughly 20 minutes.

What does everyone do for a living?
The superior patrol vehicle of it’s time CC, especially when compared to the previous decade’s Ford Fairmont, Chevy Malibu and Dodge Diplomats. The performance of the ‘95 Impala w/the LT-1 wasn’t matched until the the introduction of the Charger. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane and continue to enjoy your retirement….

Request a primer on carbontex drag washers
Hey @Mick D, I’ve bought a lot of Carbontex, even “Smoothdrag” washers from eBay. Just gotta put in the make, model, model designation and Carbontex drag washers (Shimano Curado 201HG) and bingo-$8.19 w/free shipping. Or as @ike8120 suggested, contact Carbontex directly. In my opinion, they do make a difference especially on older reels…

@hokiehunter373 check out Revant lenses. These are their Elite polarized lenses on a couple of Half Jacket XLJs. And I do like my Costas in 580G, I’m pretty sure my sight fishing eyewear is covered ?

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Ya gotta love it when things work out as planned. Last time out, fish were swiping at the buzzbait and would pull it down just missing the hook. I figured I’d try a trailer hook and see if it would solve the problem. This 5.4lber slurped down my buzzbait and definitely made for a great morning on the water…
