X2, bulky by today’s standard, but solid and reliable reels. I pulled maintenance a little while ago on a couple of mine. Original drag washers were toast and still worked. E series parts can be found more readily, just takes a little more effort to locate ‘em.

And I just now found out the BBQ is terrible....

I’ll chime in on the rod side of things by saying Okuma rods. Specially, the Reflections series is the one I’ve had experience using. I bought them as a recommendation from my boat shop at around $60, I figured at the time they’d work for chucking and winding. And these Okuma rods do that well and are a bargain for young anglers and the budget conscious. By the way, my avatar shows my PB caught on one of those very rods...
