  1. I’m gonna say losing a big fish on the jump. You saw her, a denizen of the deep breaking water like a Polaris (Trident) missile as that big ole gaping mouth opens and your bait goes flying right back at you. The whole time your mind is screaming “don’t jump, don’t jump”.... Break em off, I’ll raise my ? to being guilty of the “ahh, that nick isn’t too bad, I’ll retry after the next one cause they’re small”. Then a little tick, the line starts to move and you set the hook and you know the rest. In this case, I’ve got only myself to blame when I see where the line broke .... If you loose em and never see them, well THAT’S what makes a fishing story that can morph into legendary proportions over time ?.... Sorry @Jermination that you lost that big ole brown fish, but I think you will become a fixture in her living room until you meet again. Good luck sir!
  2. A 55 gallon Hefty Garbage bag. It wasn’t bass fishing, we were out on the SF Bay sturgeon fishing off the Oakland airport. An outgoing tide started, my rod loads up and the “fight” was on! Everyone was gathered around as I tried to gain line on a “monster” sturgeon that seemed more like a big bat ray. When I finally got it to break water, the disappointment was very quickly replaced by laughter and loads of good natured harassment...
  3. Heck of a weekend of football... The Niners played well enough on both sides of the ball, running at the pride of the Viking defense to control the clock and bottling up a potent Minnesota offense. Gotta say it was nice the NFL’s coaching carousel left SF’s coaching staff intact. I think Vrabel channeled some inner Bill Belichick by taking Mark Ingram outta the game and making Lamar Jackson a one dimensional offensive weapon. Derrick Henry was a monster carrying the ball, controlling the clock, and that jump pass was pretty special. The periodic shots of the Baltimore sidelines showed the level of frustration Tennessee’s play and game planning caused. It’s a 60 minute game, and Houston had that axiom reaffirmed. Jumping out to that big lead, I was wondering like everyone else if KC left the varsity team on the bus. Granted, there was A LOT of time left and the Chiefs have way too much offensive firepower. That 4th and 1 fake punt was gonna be the coup de grace, but Sorensen made sure it wasn’t how the Texans envisioned. Up in Green Bay, one heck of a game. The Packer offensive making plays and seemed to be in control of the game heading into the second half. Marshawn Lynch was ineffective and pretty much window dressing to keep the GB defense honest. It was Russell Wilson’s legs and accurate right arm that the ‘Hawks were pinning their upset hopes on, if given the opportunity late in the game by their defense. However, it was Aaron Roger’s making two crucial throws on two consecutive third downs that salted away the win. Good luck to everyone who’s teams are left in the tournament. I’m looking forward to two more wins by my team, but then again aren’t we all.... Go Niners!
  4. You’re entitled to your perspective, and I’ll stand by my thoughts as well. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that society provides daily examples of head scratching moments where my quote rings true.
  5. “If common sense was common, everyone would have it” also rings true ?
  6. Hello @Pbw9987 from Northern California, welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! As for advice continue to put your time in on the water, starting with trip fourteen. A lot of great info here to tap into, and maybe start a journal. This may help you dial things in day to day, seasonally, and yearly amongst others. Your persistence will pay off, cause you can’t catch em if your line isn’t wet! Best of luck
  7. The countdown for playoff football is winding down, and it all starts at 1335hrs in Santa Clara.. Go Niners!
  8. Glad you and yours are safe and sound for the duration @12poundbass. A long time ago, those were the conditions that model building would be taking place. Tackle tune-up and playoff football is probably the current option ?
  9. Great news @JLewis134! Continued success in your recovery and enjoy all the therapeutic fishing you can do. Look forward to the posts in the latest catch thread
  10. Saw Rush way back when, UFO, Hush and Max Webster ... nice trip down memory lane, RIP ...
  11. I finally got my Bantam, thanks again everyone and @jbsoonerfan for the original post. I gotta say things have come a LONG way since my first Bantam, and I like the direction things are headed
  12. Sorry to hear about your Mom and you unfortunate accident @Wizzlebiz. Prayers for you and yours, JB
  13. Nothing like having Christmas arrive in January from across the Pacific ?
  14. It’s Christmas!
  15. @Catt, as stated above, I put bobber stops in front of and behind the weight. And yes, I believe in snelling the hook. Yes the hook does pivot on the hook set which may improve the hook-up ratio, but I personally believe the line/knot is protected from any potential damage from the weight. Now, what ya punchin’? Hydrilla, hyacinth, primrose .... lots of fun ?
  16. It didn’t take 3 years @FryDog62, it already happened. In 2018, California Assemblyman Bill Quirk, D-Hayward introduced AB2787 on February 16, 2018. The bill would outlaw the manufacture, sale, and purchase of lead fishing weights that are under 50 grams. Fortunately, the bill died on the Senate floor in November of 2018. Interestingly enough, six states along with Canada have some form of a ban on lead fishing weights.
  17. My second 25 days TW order. I am looking forward to using the Roboworm Ned offerings with the Trokars. The Rebel Wee Craws are to throw at some trout once the streams/river season opens this spring.
  18. Couldn’t agree with you more @gimruis about shifting demographics. +38 million in my state, the majority living in an urban environment, over regulation and increasing fees and very little being done to enhance hunting/fishing habitat, water politics. Sun Microsystems co-founder bought Martins Beach, which my family would go for grunion (surf smelt) since the 30’s, locked out the public and is now being sued to reopen the beach.... And I said I didn’t want to rant lol That’s what I’m talking about @12poundbass, good moments and memories. This past Christmas, my youngest for a present gave me a fishing trip. She would buy a license, take the day off work, and spend the day of my choice with me fishing. The older we get, the more things like that are appreciated.
  19. In the Golden State @Mccallister25, I believe it has for a variety of reasons that I prefer not to rant about... I do believe it is incumbent upon all of us to try to instill the value of outdoor activities such as hunting/fishing to our children and grandchildren.
  20. Hello @Ben Jones! Welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! Very nice rig sir!
  21. I headed out for my first fishing trip of the new year, trying to break-in my license and start 2020 on a positive note in sunny Northern California. Haha, sunny California I thought as I motor towards Franks Tract, the duck hunters were calling it a day as they pass by me headed towards the ramp I where just launched. The tule fog was negotiable, air temperature was 47, water at 49, and I’m thinking these are perfect conditions to be throwing Lunker Punkers for big stripers. Instead I’m going for green fish for a few hours. I found gin clear water where I landed and picked up a rip bait hoping for the best. And I did find one, very hungry fish that inhaled my offering. One of the baits front hooks was stuck next to the bass’s crusher, the tail hook in it’s lip. She went 3.2lbs on the scale and released to fight another day.
  22. It’s the same here, 55 degrees, sunny and clear and I’m enjoying some playoff football like some of ya. I might get out on the water this week depending on how thick the tule fog is ?
  23. Welcome @comesailawayto Bass Resource and the Forums! To answer your question, I’m gonna say the person who helped you by putting line on your reel may have over spooled it, hey it happens. I try to keep the line about 1/8” below the spool lip to prevent this... again, welcome to BR
  24. The two species seem to be similar as far as being a sport fish, and this guy is skilled in working tight waters. In watching the video, I get the feeling he’s in the Amazon fishing for peacock bass as opposed to fishing for North American black bass.
  25. On March 7th I was able to get this camera shy 7.7lber to eat a Revenge spinnerbait.
