Selecting a new spinning reel
id recommend a 2500 size for bass fishing. 4000 is pretty big. of those 3, ive only used the sahara and its a pretty decent reel....

left or right handed? newbie question.
youre right, it is silly and it took me about 15 yrs to figure that out. ive converted most of my reels to left hand retrieve and i feel like i have more lure control and feel with plastics/jigs.

good all around jig color/trailer combo
i'd recommend a finesse jig to start with. you will get more bites and build more confidence. colors for me depend the water clarity (the more stained, the darker the color). id suggest a 1/4oz bitsy bug jig (green craw) and a 3" craw trailer (pumpkin) like netbait's tiny paca craw or yum's craw papi.

Slang for "did really well" :-)
you guys bashing the dude who said he "raped" the bass are ridiculous. maybe its time to take an english refresher class. if he said he cornholed them then i could see how that could offend. rape1[ch8194][ch8194]/re[ch618]p/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [reyp] Show IPA noun, verb, raped, rap[ch8901]ing. noun 1. the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse. 2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person. 3. statutory rape. 4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside. 5. Complete Set-up: Rods, Reels and Tackle
500 bucks... this is what i would do. 2 x symetres (2500) a plastic plano 2700 box senkos (green pumpkin) trick worms (green pumpkin) 3/0 and 4/0 gamakatsu ewg hooks (for the senkos and trick worms) 3/16 oz worm weights (for the trick worms) small crankbait (rapala) 3/8 oz white spinnerbait 3 x 1/4oz bitsy bug jigs (green craw) and a bag of 3" paca craws for trailers spend the change on 2 good rods. i recommend fenwick, falcon and st. croix. id get both with fast actions and a length of 6'6" to 7'. id get one rod rated for 1/8-3/8oz lures (usually ML or M) and another rated for 3/16-5/8oz lures (M or MH) id use the lighter rod for small cranks, and finesse presentations and pan fish baits. the heavier one would be good for texas-rigged worms, small-med sized jigs, spinnerbaits... if you want one of the rods to be dedicated to jigs and plastics you might want to look into an extra-fast tip. dont spend too much of your "allowance" on baits. get good rods and reels and buy the bait as you go. edit: i guess you need some line too. id get 6lb yo-zuri ultrasoft in green or trilene XL mono in clear. welcome back to the sport!

Pirate Joke
got this one in an email last week.... Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, "Bring me my red shirt!". The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, which the captain put on and lead the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled. Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain calm as ever bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt!". The battle was on, and once again the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, although this time more casualties occurred. Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?". The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, "If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid". The men sat in silence marveling at the courage of such a man. As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to their Captain for his usual command. The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, "Bring me my brown pants!!"
