  1. I gotta say this to PitchinKid and Fishin Daddy; We have had a baseball thread, talking trash here for 2 years now in the sticky section. We have found a way of talkin trash, bustin on each other, even makin fun out of our own teams, Without gettin ugly with each other, you may want to look at those threads.
  2. Hey Pokey: the South is the land of football, that's why franchises , except for Texas have such a hard time there. When I lived in New Orleans the Pirates had a farm club there, the season was less than 60 games so for 30 games they needed to fill the park with 800 to survive, THEY DIED and moved elsewhere. At the same time the SUPERBOWL sold out for the STATE HS CHAMPIONSHIP FOOT BALL GAME, not all parts of the country still watch baseball s we do The Rays, have the manager of the year in the AL and a bunch of hard hitting kids who are bullet proof, they believe they can win and for my money, as a devote NL fan they are fun to watch
  3. Hey Pokey, before my father passed away he recalled times he took me to Ebbet Field, I was 6 when the Dodgers moved, and I have no memory of this. My first recollection comes from 1962,with my Met's you wanna talk starting with a heart break we lost 120 games that year. I still love them and always will. The 86 series was handed to us by McNamara for pitching Shiraldi, who you got from us in the first place. If you watch the films you could see the fear on his face. You have a storied team and a park to go with it, you have a lot to love 8-)
  4. Perfect Conditions: any day I can get on the water, with the resources God has afforded me to enjoy this sport. 8-)
  5. Yea have fun with your 16 games RW, we have 162, playoffs and spring training. On the few weeks there is no ball here it is in Central America and PR, on rainy days we argure :-/
  6. We just gotta get past 86 ;D
  7. The Luxury tax, pushed by Steinbrenner and our current commish, along with guys like Boras and the Union was a way to get out of Revenue Sharing; which is a whole different ballgame, if you will. Our commish was an owner at the time. What I would like to see is the Minor league / farm system revert back to what it once was.Longevity of marquee playes staying put with one team and see Boras out and away from baseball, and TRUE REVENUE SHARING>>> NONE OF THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN :-/ By the Way: Thanks Pokey,Hookem and Daniel my Brother, and all I love debating Baseball, a pleasure to see so many here with knowledge and a love for our National Passtime. Too many youngsters around here running around in soccer gear instead of baseball equipment these days
  8. My favorites; 1st base: Ernie Banks/Keith Hernandez 2nd base: Pete Rose 3rd; Schmidt ss Ozzie Smith Catcher : Johnny Bench Pitchers: The one and only Bob Gibson!,,Kofax,Carlton,Lee Smith,Gossage and Orsco Outfielders, WILLIE MAYS ( best everyday guy I ever saw),Tommy Agee,Foster,Clemente,Henderson and Tony Gywnn and the best hitter I ever saw Hank Arron I don't know you tell me if these men were all guns for hire My all time favorite Met and never a Hall candidate, but was the spark plug of our team MOOKIE WILSON, gotta love a MOOK :
  9. It may be a kids sport, but it is a beautiful and traditional game. I watched Beltran take Strike Three last year, and we were done, sometimes a good pitch can freeze the best hitting #1 Wise Saying of post season play " Good Pitching will contain good hitting" I love this game like no other, if you dared BOO the Dodgers in Ebbets Field, you would need 3 guys named Vito, with no necks to get home in one piece
  10. This is a list of every series since I have been born: Check out the amount of times a NY team alone has been it the seriies ( including the Dodgers(Bklyn),Mets, Giants(NY and Yankees0 Of the last 10 thats 20 teams, by my count 14 of the participants had salaries over 100 million. Look how many times the Braves,Dodgers,Red Sox and Yankees have been in: You think the ability to buy and hold quality players has anything to do with CONTINUED POST SEASON apperances, not just one and done Cinderella years? In some of the Series of the 70's even the WS had empty seats, as a result of Strike backlash. Money in baseball IS NOT ON A REVENUE SHARING BASIS, why do you think a former owner is still commishiner? From 51 to 57 the WS never left NY, both teams were from NY. I may be from NY, but if you look at this as a whole>>>HUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM Season-By-Season World Series Results SEASON WINNER LOSER SERIES 2007 Boston Red Sox Colorado Rockies 4-0 2006 St. Louis Cardinals Detroit Tigers 4-1 2005 Chicago White Sox Houston Astros 4-0 2004 Boston Red Sox St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 2003 Florida Marlins New York Yankees 4-2 2002 Anaheim Angels San Francisco Giants 4-3 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks New York Yankees 4-3 2000 New York Yankees New York Mets 4-1 1999 New York Yankees Atlanta Braves 4-0 1998 New York Yankees San Diego Padres 4-0 1997 Florida Marlins Cleveland Indians 4-3 1996 New York Yankees Atlanta Braves 4-2 1995 Atlanta Braves Cleveland Indians 4-2 1993 Toronto Blue Jays Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 1992 Toronto Blue Jays Atlanta Braves 4-2 1991 Minnesota Twins Atlanta Braves 4-3 1990 Cincinnati Reds Oakland Athletics 4-0 1989 Oakland Athletics San Francisco Giants 4-0 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers Oakland Athletics 4-1 1987 Minnesota Twins St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 1986 New York Mets Boston Red Sox 4-3 1985 Kansas City Royals St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 1984 Detroit Tigers San Diego Padres 4-1 1983 Baltimore Orioles Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 1982 St. Louis Cardinals Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 1981 Los Angeles Dodgers New York Yankees 4-2 1980 Philadelphia Phillies Kansas City Royals 4-2 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates Baltimore Orioles 4-3 1978 New York Yankees Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 1977 New York Yankees Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 1976 Cincinnati Reds New York Yankees 4-0 1975 Cincinnati Reds Boston Red Sox 4-3 1974 Oakland Athletics Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 1973 Oakland Athletics New York Mets 4-3 1972 Oakland Athletics Cincinnati Reds 4-3 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates Baltimore Orioles 4-3 1970 Baltimore Orioles Cincinnati Reds 4-1 1969 New York Mets Baltimore Orioles 4-1 1968 Detroit Tigers St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 1967 St. Louis Cardinals Boston Red Sox 4-3 1966 Baltimore Orioles Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers Minnesota Twins 4-3 1964 St. Louis Cardinals New York Yankees 4-3 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers New York Yankees 4-0 1962 New York Yankees San Francisco Giants 4-3 1961 New York Yankees Cincinnati Reds 4-1 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates New York Yankees 4-3 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers Chicago White Sox 4-2 1958 New York Yankees Milwaukee Braves 4-3 1957 Milwaukee Braves New York Yankees 4-3 1956 New York Yankees Brooklyn Dodgers 4-3 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers New York Yankees 4-3 1954 New York Giants Cleveland Indians 4-0 1953 New York Yankees Brooklyn Dodgers 4-2 1952 New York Yankees Brooklyn Dodgers 4-3 1951 New York Yankees New York Giants 4-2
  11. Not yet they don't I am a life long Mets fan, 1962 POLO GROUNDS PACKED, then it got crappy 1964 Shea Openmed >>PACKED, then they were literally giving away seats !969, oh well , that really packed them in and except for 2 runs in the 70's Shea , while showing many tickets SOLD had very FEW IN ATTENDANCE, I knoN I was one of the few. THE TEAM STUNK UP QUEENS and it was painful to watch at times. The Rays have come from 8, thats it EIGHT CONSECUTIVE LOOSING SEASONS, and while i beg to differ with you, but other than the ocassioanl fluke team BIG MONEY BUYS AND HOLDS BIG PLAYERS. hile the wild card has not been the same team . since it's ***. Take a look at post season play ; it is littered with big money/market teams, there is a reason for that Check this out, I believe it was 4 years ago in the Sporting News; That year the NY YANKEE CABLE CONTRACT, could pay for the top 3 pitchers ( salaries that year) for every team in their division. SEATTLE MARINERS CABLE CONTRACT couldnt even cover their own 5 man rotation. As long as this keeps up, TV mioney would rather cover a Mets /Braves or a Yankees/Sox game than cover the Rays, even in the midst of a 12 game winning sterak, No TV, Very Little Coverage and small crowds plague teams like the Rays, those of us who live in the big markets never get this.

INVESTMENT 101, great and thanks for the laugh
  13. So put down the night crawlers and ask to use on of her lures ;D
  14. Absolutely Wayne! Ron and I saw the paw prints of the one NOT SIGHTED(according to DNR) they were pretty well defined but the game guys said they were washed out. Yet we saw them take photos and measurements of the prints I do not knwo one animal print from the other, but Ron does and so did a few others there, they were all pretty much in agreement ;mountain lion! I would think maybe they don't want a whole lot of pressure and poaching getting to areas where the last few manybe living.
  15. Why shouldn't they" deserve a team" , typical big market fan statement. If all the smaller market teams, who can not afford the players the big market teams can, then the Major Leagues would become a 6 team league at best. THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR A FAN BASE! The big teams have to play some body and maybe , just maybe some sort of revenue sharing might be in order, bring some parity to the league. they could take a lesson form the NFL
  16. Hey Fellas: A new development in this area announced this week, A new fiber from a recently discovered nylon type product is being marketed under the name MARIJUANANOL>> It seems this line will have less and less memory, the more you use it
  17. Hey Tom: MY Favorite: I'm fishing with the old lady for the first time, she actually was ok with using ***, but when I turned on the depth finder she said OH NO< THAT"S CHEATING ;D
  18. Been a long time, I do not even recall how you get to 35 from the loop. I was a bit looped myself in those days
  19. I love the Extreme Baitcasters but that spinning reel, the new gold one is the biggest disapointment ever from BPS, the reel is not sturdy, it has numerous points for the line to get under the spool , AND IT DOES and I gave it to a kid. I was curious how it would compare to a Flooger President, it was trash,
  20. The older one comes only in 5.3:1, for cranking I would get the new 6.4:1, thats a great reel and they upgraded it a bit. My friend Gene has one I threw it a bit, I liked it better than the older model. I HAVE NOT USED IT LONG TERM, you should wait to see if someone with more experience using both reels chimes in .
  21. Phillies fans are the worse, they boo their own team. Three seasons ago: I went with some fellas from work to see them play St.Louis, I forgot who was pitching for the Phillies, but he went through the St Louis line up twice with ease.Puljos, struck out looking and flies out, his 3rd time up he singled on 2 strikes and the fans booed the h0me town starter. He only contained the best hitter in the NL to a single in 3 at bats>TRAADE THE BUM,,, Geezz!
  22. Muddy replied to GRIZZ's topic in Everything Else
Rays looking like the 69 Mets. Young ,talented and bullet proff. No one told this kids they can loose. Madden has em belieiving ;D I really underestimated them, thought they would make a for real run over the next 2 seasons, they are for real right now
  23. Hey Mook I am a little confused: From One joint leak we now have pics of 17 leaks, some of which seem to be rivits, some worn areas and some joint leaks. Now you filled you boat with water, and that is how you marked your leaks, Correct? Yet you were out on the lake for a few hours and got less than a cup of water in the boat, right? I am posting these questions so all see them, so you can get the help you need. Isn't that back seat a little high for the profile of that boat?
  24. Poor guy is probablly ALL STRUNG OUT NOW
  25. Hey Glenn: The Mariners were the first real challane to the unbreakable baseball record and it has nothing to do with Dimaggio's hitting streak; 1962 Met's Lost 120 games!
