Installing a new transducer
Your transom isn't hollow it's filled with foam or wood. Seal up the holes you drilled with some silicone. Mount a plastic board to your transom, preferably over the holes you drilled. 2 screws an some epoxy. Then mount the transducer to the board. I have my transducer and speedo sensor mounted to the board. you then have the ability to move the transducer if it's not reading correctly or getting interference from the prop wash.

Cheater at the US Open
Just curious. My club penalizes 1lb for a dead fish at weigh in. Is this not a normal practice? If it wasn't the heat that killed the fish and was the lead, why would someone risk adding 2oz versus losing a pound? Maybe I just don't understand the cheater mentality.

Punching/Flipping with Plastics or Jigs
Regular or strawberry? I like a heavy jig or a creature bait with a pegged sinker for punching mats. That was an informative video gobig I may give punch skirts a try. Am I missing something or is the punch skirt only used for mats. It doesn't look weedless as far as fishing milfoil or hydrilla. As far as thick weeds are concerned I have little patience. The lakes I fish are relatively shallow and get choked with weeds. I'll throw baits into the open holes but thats about it.

When is a Dink no longer considered a Dink?
When it becomes a squeeker. Squeeker= a fish you have to double and triple check against the bump board before weigh-in. Here in IL that would be 14".

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Went out for the perch opener on the Big Pond. Perch weren't on but we found a school of 13-15" smallies. Action was HOT! for about 45 minutes. Ended up with about a dozen. Not huge but fun. The fish were suspending in 16fow off the breakwalls.

Never fished with a frog before. Will they
Jack Daniels Fishing Story I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait. Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket. Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog. A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth. Life is good........

Nav lights...do I need 'em?
So my 538.2ft Ranger is good to go? The other thing to consider is there may be some "less than sober" boaters navigating during the evening hours. Anything to get boaters to notice you at night can be a lifesaver. The water fish has a 25mph speed limit after dark. I can imagine getting hit at 25mph would be pretty bad.

Ardent XS1000 Review.... Confused?
I talked with the guy who fixes my reels. He claims he has been trying to get the "In" with Ardent for awhile and has had zero luck. He wants to fix their reels but aparrently they are made from magical pixie dust and fixing them is a big secret. I don't know about their casting reels but I own a F500 flipping reel and couldn't be happier.

Is it the heat?
Yep, it's the heat, and the fish have been seeing the same presentations over and over again. Blew my last tourney. Had #'s but no size. I blame myself for sticking with my prefish strategy (which worked during prefish)and refusing to try something different at crunch time. I've been fishing different water to try and get out of my "habit" fishing which isn't working right now. Today I learned that the bass are suspended, and not sitting in the slop or under docks. I am going to transfer this knowledge to my regular fishin' hole which I have a tourney next Sunday. (current conditions have been No Wake since last Monday due to high rainfall levels) WHOOPEEE!

Kevin VanDam Wins AOY!
How about changing the title of the thread to "Skeet Reese Loses AOY" As others have said Skeet had an incredible year. He just couldn't clinch it. That being said IMO KVD is a better angler and I'm glad he won.

something out of the ordinary
Salmon and trout bait for sure.

smallmouth age question
It depends more on the way water temp affects metabolism than food source. Fish from warmer climates have a longer "growing" season and tend to grow faster.

Nav lights...do I need 'em?
Why risk it?

Best Smallmouth Lake
Lake Michigan, Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin area. Consistant for big fish, and I believe they pulled more than one 7lb+ fish this spring during the big tourney they have every year.

Open season on litterers
When I was a kid in grade school, which was many years ago, they preached to us "do not litter" and it is worse now than it has ever been. When was the last time you saw a Woodsy Owl commercial? "Give a hoot, don't pollute" I haven't shore fished since I got a boat, but the river system I fish has signs on every bridge you go underneath that say "No Glass". The bridge I-beams are completly covered with beer bottles. On a brighter note, the other day I was heading into the launch and there were a bunch of plastic bags that had blown into the water. 3 pleasure boats stopped and picked the bags up. I read on another forum about legislation to make bait containers biodegradable. The consumer would be charged additional money for the box of worms. I don't use live bait so I wouldn't be affected. I'll see if I can find the info.

Check my eyes Please Did anyone watch Nat Geo/Flying Carp?/
Everything goes here in Chi-town. The bass in the tank is still alive. A good thing. Trust me there are no stray dogs or cats walking down Cermak Ave, and there is 24hr target practice in the Hilliard Towers housing projects.
