Update: I took the motor back to Wally World and explained the situation and they gave me a full refund! All i have to do now is find a new one. A lot of people have recommended Minn Kota to me. It's just that i have always used Motor Guide with no issues(the old motors). My main need in a trolling motor is it's ability to stay weedless. The majority of my fish come from flippin/pitchin heavy cover. The motor i just took \back could not even go through scattered grass. For $500 i expected a lot more. I want the biggest lb thrust i can get but still keep it 12V. Please keep the recommendations coming guys. I need to pick one and try to have by this coming weekend.

I just can't seem to catch a break! As some may remember, a couple of weeks ago my trolling motor took a dump on me. I bought a brand new Motor Guide 54lb trust Gator Flex trolling motor to replace it. I get on the lake today for the first time with it on the boat and it takes a dump on me too! The same thing as the other one! When i push the foot pedal front/back the motor shaft doesn't spin. The cable is not broken(i checked). It worked for about 3hrs before it did it. I paid over $500 for the piece of garbage! My first question is, can i take it back to the store i bought it from(Wal-Mart) and get a refund. Or do i have to call the warranty because it is registered. Also, can you guys recommend a reliable trolling motor for me. My boat is a 16ft fiberglass bass boat. I want a motor over 50lb thrust and it has to be 12v. My new one came with the Machete III "weedless" prop but it is NOT weedless at all. It sucks in the grass. I need a more weedless prop as well Your help and experience is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

I guess you haven't fished with one then. I'm curious to hear your reasoning on this. Are you trying to say they are heavy? Why would you assume that i haven't fished with one!?! If i commented about it than just maybe i have used one and that is why i said what i said!!!!!!

If you want a Carrot Stix save some money and put your reel on a golf club! That's pretty much what it will feel like on the actual rod. ;D

The only real difference in the two is that the Revo STX has the Infi II spool system. It is suppose to cast further but trust me it doesn't. I own a couple of each and i would highly urge you to save some $ and get the SX. As for the rod, that all depends on what you will be using it for.

As soon as they show interest in it(and can hold a rod). I am in the process of teaching my 3 1/2 yr old daughter how to pitch a lure. Believe it or not she is getting pretty good with a princess pole and a trick worm.

I would not know, i have yet to pay $200 for a Revo or have a problem with one either! It is obvious that you got a bad/defective reel which does not define the Revo line as a whole. Shimano has plenty products that are defective as do all other manufactures. Does this make all of them of lesser quality as well?

I have 20 packs of each Power Bait lure in each color, LOL! My favorite is the 4" Chigger Craw in blk/red T-Rigged and flipped into some nice THICK COVER!!!

I don't know about the strength difference, that's just what some have told me! I have had the Gamakatsu EWG hooks bend out on big fish in heavy cover so i want to get the strongest hook of the two.

If you want a kicker frog with the paddle legs than get the Stanley Ribbit frog. I am telling you it is awesome! They even have one with a buzz bait blade for extra noise. I made my own with Wal-Mart $1.00 buzz baits i modified.
