  1. I wouldn't worry about Nova, they ain't getting past their next game.
  2. It doesn't seem like he does well on lakes that are known for bigger fish as well like Falcon and Amistad in 08.
  3. This link will show you how to set the tension.
  4. The 587ci will allow you to add the navionics chip and be able to stay on the drops on the river. BPS has it for 470 and you can find the card for 119. I know it's more than what you wanted, but it will seriously help you to stay where you need to fish the ledges.
  5. Go to the mann's bait company website, they are on there and you can buy directly from them. As far as how they work, I don't know, they are 10" long, but are not very beefy.
  6. They will readily hit just about anything you put in front of them. Did he give you a good fight? I've caught 3 already this year over 10 lb, all on a jig though. I weighed one on last saturday that was 14-7. It gets your hopes up when you set the hook and the rod is doubled over only to realize it is one of those slimey bas*****.
  7. Exactly, it creates cover and a place for you to catch fish. Yes some piles are in very deep water where a normal person will have a hard time finding. You still have to catch the fish. Most of the time it does not give anyone an unfair advantage, the fish still have to be there and you still have to catch them. With the water low since last Oct. I have marked roughly 130+ stake beds and brushpiles that someone has put in. Even marked an artificial stump row made out of old toilets on sunday. Trust me, these spots don't hold fish year round, but when it gets right they will hold a good fish or two, or several crappie per bed. Florida strain, if it's legal for you to do do it, no one should call you out for it, they have just as much right to those brushpiles as you do, even if you put them out- it's public water, tell them to beat you to them next time. It will give you a place to fish when it gets tough. You also give cover to quite a few fish in the process. Anyone that thinks it's cheating, I would expect when you find a manmade brushpile that you don't fish it, it would be wrong. :
  8. X-raps are good baits, I don't know about the rising part, never noticed it.
  9. No one take this the wrong way, does everyone that think it is cheating would you fish a brushpile or crappie bed that you found but that someone else put in?
  10. You might want to do 70% payback, that seems to be the norm for most tournaments. Another thing you can have is hot dogs and drinks for after the tournament, might get you a few more bucks.
  11. Hmmmm....got an unused bag of Mean Green Red that a buddy bought me a while back. Will def get it out this year. Yea I just checked their website, they say it's a special order for distributor's color. It will be hard to find.
  12. Naw, you take your hard drive off all you send is the console. Just keep calling and you should get someone that says send it in for free, they email you a label, you provide a box to ship it to them. I think mine was out 3-4 months when I got the ring of death. They know about the problem you will honor it even out of warranty, b/c it's such a big problem, you just have to find the right person that cares about their job. The new one comes back with the full warranty, I think 3 years, for the ring of death. If it's anything else besides that I believe it's 100 bucks.
  13. Hey mine was expired as well, and they told me $100 bucks to fix. Well I didn't have the money so I waited a couple weeks when I did, called them up again, and the lady told me to send it in, it won't cost me a thing. Just keep calling them, if it's the first time for the ring of death you will eventually talk to someone who will tell you to send it in for free. You just won't get that same console back.
  14. If you are going to spend that amount of money for a bait go with a War Eagle or something comparable, not the house brand. I will give BPS this though, bout 10 or so years ago they made a spinnerbait like the Terminators- had the titanium wire and wouldn't get bent out of shape. It was about $2. It was the best spinnerbait that I had ever used, the bad thing is they only made it for a couple years, the last fish I caught on it threw the blade at the boat and no other blade would work.

Where were you fishing out of?

From what I've been hearing a shad rap on rock banks worked real slow is catching them good. This is coming from the Paris Landing area and I believe you live on the northern part of the lake. It's not quite right for the rattle traps yet, but it's close.
  17. That's good to here Mike, I need to wait a little while till it warms up some before I can get mine back out. Off topic, have you picked up Bad Company 2? I'm getting it today and I'll be on tonight if you want to play.
  18. A 788ci and new trolling motor. The electronics that were on it were from the late 90's basic model humminbirds. The trolling motor was a 36 lb that could not move or hold in the wind.
  19. My HCP finally came in today, I'm finally able to carry. It makes the pain of having the boat in the shop a little more bearable.
  20. The few minutes I got to fish on Sun. before boat problems I found a 50 degree water, but that was on the south part of the lake. Find flats, either main river or in the creeks. Rattle traps will find the fish then go back through them with something different. You might catch a lot of little ones, but there will be a few bigger fish mixed in. One of my dad's friends caught an 8.4 the other day on the ledge of a flat with a jig. Any cover you can see, brush, stumps, crappie beds, docks there should be a few fish around. Alot of those docks have brush all around them that consistently hold fish.
  21. Grab them right behind the head and avoid the tip of the fins. You don't have to worry as much about the ones 3 lb. or bigger, it's the little ones that will get you.
