  1. Just meant to be a joke Mike but ya the mirror is not a pretty site. It was just a special outing for the 8yr olds. First day of the pool I just wanted to make sure about lifeguards and such. Now that I'm comfortable its off to the walking track and the machines when they swim.
  2. Is it just me or are there some really stupid people in this world? I might be missing something but here is an e-bay listing $50 Bass Pro Shops Great Outdoor Store Gift Card 6 bids current price $48.01 $1.99 shipping 48m LOL! You must be kidding
  3. The snag in the tree is a great one Zel that is hilarious! I will remember that. If not that and I was in a boat with a motor I'd fire it up even if anchored I let it run ( hoping it was a 2 stroke no less). I would then just idle over between him and the submerged tree ( LBH style ). You must keep the laws of nature in mind first though. The one that says the guy is twice my size or I am bigger than him LOL! In his case the 12' Pelican might be a little risky too!
  4. Kind of torn on this one but first maybe not a role model per say but one of the first fishing shows I ever watched. Was on every sat or sun in the early 70's ? I cannot remember his name but I loved his show. He always wore a flannel shirt and a hat and had fairly thick glasses and promoted Johnson products a lot and Uncle Josh pork rinds. Does anyone know his name? Same goes for Al linder and Jerry Mcguinness. I always used to get excited about fishing from watching his show. These would be my role models as they made me want to fish. On the flip side Ray Scott and Johnny Morris def had an impact on Bass fishing coming to the forefront. I'm not sure that isn't a bad thing though. Is the popularity what causes the lack of fish to catch and the 2 hr waits at boat ramps ( for some of you guys) ? I'm not sure one way or the other that all the commercialism is a good thing. Then again Linder and my other guy did the same thing just earlier in time. Kind of darned if they do and darned if they don't.
  5. We Just joined the whole family to the brand new local health club / community center. Problem is I took the 8 yr olds swimming while I read bass fishing magazines! LOL The bad part is the library is attached to it so their is an endless supply of reading material!
  6. Honestly a tie for me I love 'em both All pumped whn landing the big one but bored on the days where I get skunked so I'd say a tie. I just love catching bass it is a blast and I'm not too proud to catch 10,11 or 12" er's. I have a blast with them all, just something about bass that fascinates me.
  7. Haven't seen a post quite like this before Thanks for the entertainment
  8. If I didn't enjjoy fishing so much I don't think I'd have the desire to go shop / collect equipment. To me catching fish is the puzzle. What can I do to catch more? What can I try? Buying gear is just a piece of the overall puzzle. It is def a fun piece of the puzzle, maybe a little too fun on occasion! LOL

  10. I kept thinking what idiot would rank the illini football with 3 wins in about as many years? That guy ought to be removed from the sportsman's club for not knowing his craft. As they have beaten Penn State and WII then maybe a mention but they lost to unranked MO and didn't exactly kill Indiana. Now a lost to the terrible Hawkeyes Ughhhh!
  11. fish-fighting-illini replied to a post in a topic in Everything Else
Hawgin if its any consolation I'm really enjoying the Citica. What about Guntersville? from MO to AL is doable isn't it?
  12. LBH Thanks for the heads up I'll have to keep an eye out for it as I haven't seen it yet. I agree 100% that godd cop bad cop with Kumar didn't work. Like you I didn't care much for Zona's role either.
  13. Thanks to this thread I now have to admit watching way too much tv over the years. Something to be said for longevity, Andy Griffith, Gilligans Island Leave it to Beaver Red Skelton Cheers Petticoat Junction Green Acres Gomer Pyle St Elsewhere ( kind of drama / comedy) Barney Miller Taxi For a while Boston Legal ( Denny Crane "name's on the door) was just hilarious but starting to run its course and get stupid.
  14. Neither Queens, Kings or even Prime ministers can hold a candle to this tittle. Base on my prowess with bobber stops I requested admission to the Mook society and due to this quote I have been duely noted, honored and accepted anointed etcetra etcetera by the king of Mooks himself!
  15. Latest kid update. We saw the advanced level specialist 200 miles away in Chicago on Monday. It was an eye opener to say the least. His first words were "not to trash the doc's you've seen but the diagnosis you've been given is the biggest B.S. diagnosis on the planet". He also said that the test that they use to conclude this disease is " a B.S. test as well and generaly poorly performed." LOL He had balls that's for sure! Long story short is he wants to aggressively attack her problem in the first hour that she starts to develop symptoms rather than wait untill she gets reallly sick and ends up in the hospital. The medicine he suggested is one already tried but has only been tried after she is in the ER not proactive. They asked if she wanted to join their research study that Mayo Clinic and Northwestern among several others are doing. That would take many fairly expensive trips to Chicago so .....? She has been doing well since Sept 1'st ( knock on wood ). She did have a surprise gall bladder attack since then and they removed it. No one is sure if this can be related to her other problem or not but only that time can answer that. He also said that the Botox injections that had been done so far were "uncalled for and useless for your problem" Like I said he's got balls. I'm not totaly convinced that this will work but you know it's atleast a plan. Better than "see you in the E.R. next month!" Skillett, I never did properly thank you ( that I remember anyway), thanks for the support
  16. Mike, I am no biblical scholar by any means but I saw a picture/ painting once. In it was a guy walking wtih 2 sets of footprints behind him for a ways then up close to him was just one set. The inscription said something like " lord I thought you would always be by my side why did you leave me" the reply was "son those single footprints are from the time that I carried you" Life can be tough sometimes it can downright suck but you have to hang in there. Mom can adapt, an apartment is just a setback for now. Since your dad is around then your mom is not a total single parent. If you are still in school then he should still be contributing ( none of my business just food for thought). Education is your ticket maybe you will have to slow the pace to help but it can be done. If not already make sure that you have approached all the student aid angles. I lost a job for around 6 mo's a couple of years ago first time ever which is scary enough. I was the only source of income for a fmily of 7. You would be amazed on how you can adapt in tough times. During my job setback I called the college and explained to them my situation. They re-did our financial aid package and the kids were able to stay in college ( 2 at one time no less!). The kids essentialy got paid approx $1,000 per semester to go to school. Maybe gently talk to dad about the house situation maybe he can help in some way. That's a touchy subject I'm sure. You sound as though you have made great strides based on your past. DO NOT give up on all of your hard work to get where you are.
  17. You'll need skirt material and probably collars depending on which type of skirt stuff you buy. They sell a tool which is no more than a small piece of arrow with a removable tip for about $5. Buy the tool it is worth every penny. It makes putting the collars on the skirts 100 times easier.
  18. First of all judging by Muddy's post in another thread the words Muddy and reel mechanic should never be allowed in the same sentence! lol Reel Mech now goes by David G he posts regularly.
  19. not sure what color pb& j is but check out Barlow's tackle they've got every color known to man. You can buy your own individual skirt layers and use multiple 1/3's or 1/2's to make anything you want.
  20. I used to get in a hurry and would put the string then bobber then tie the hook. I kept having to cut the stupid tube off with a knife until I learned to take the tube off before bobber and tying. Sometimes it takes me a whil but I always get there.
  21. Nic, in case you were not familiar with them these stops are for slip bobbers These bobbers don't attach, the have a hole all the way through it. The bobber stop is adjustable to make fishing at different depths easier. I was a total dummy the first time I tried to use these. The yarn /string Muddy described is on a plastic tube. You slide your bare line through the tube - give yourself some length to be safe. Then you slide the yarn off of the plastic up the line in the direction of the rod. You pull the plastic off the line and discard the plastic. You then pull the 2 ends of the yarn fairly tight and slide the plastic bead on, then bobber & or split shot then tie your hook. Even though you have pulled the string tight your are still able to "adjust" it up and down the line it can even wind up onto your reel spool. After the first time you use it or even before I suggest trimming off the excess string as it can grab you rod eyelets. I've never used those rubber slide on ones that Gatrboy describes. In fact I didn't know what they were the first time and threw them away to buy the string type! I couldn't figure out how to get them on the line lol some days I just don't get it! lol Hey Gatr do those rubber type ones ever get hung up on your rod guides?
  22. Muddy, how can you tell which are the old ones and which are the new ones. I'm going to call the 800 number and order them for delivery as there's no BPS in Northern California. What should I ask to make sure that it's the correct rods and not the older ones you speak of. The Red Revos are the Cabelas version, the Revo SC , only made in high speed 7:1 Hey Broke, I was kind of involved with Muddy on the Extreme deal that he is / was using as an example. He posted then I think the exact part# that was on the rod that came as part of the combo. It had "Extreme" on it but I happened to glance at the book and the part# was nowhere close to the Extreme's part"s in the book" Go to the website and get the part#. Without being there in person I'm not sure how you are going to tell what you are getting online. I guess you could ask via call or via e-mail somehow. Probably no big deal I'm sure you'd get a pretty decent rod either way. But seems to be a little shaky on BPS's part at times. If they advertise a "PQ" or an "Extreme" in Oct you'd expect this years model not almost 2 years ago's model. I guess despite earlier posts about receipts maybe the moral of the story is " petentialy not all receipts are created equal" !!!
  23. Man you guys are killing me. Probably a good thing the kid is sick again or I'd be buying more stuff! Am going to WI next week for a day or so ( if everything goes smooth ). I am staying next to a nice fishing store that I love ( bad move probably).
  24. I would want to know what the "no questions asked" really meant. Does it mean ship it to us with $75 and we will send you one? Something to think about anyway.
