Fenwick deal?
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsThey were still on sale but I might have messed up. They had 2 styles one was HMG's with carbon veil technology model GS...MF orig list @ $99 on sale for $59. The Other was an Aramid with Aramid veil technology model GAVS...M orig list $129 on sale for $66 I couldn't remember all the info from this thread while I was there so I bought the carbon veil one. It had Fuji guides. The Aramid had some other brand guides with titanium coating. Oh well has to be better than my Berkley Lighting.

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
P_Rock thanks for the words LBH That is kind of a $64 question. Euyrithramiacin (sp?) tends to work by IV during flare ups but it takes 3-5 days to kick in and didn't seem to take hold this time. They tried Botox injections ( like back in January ) to the nerve and still didn't seem to help. The feeding tube itself kind of did the trick. It worked once before as a kid when we didn't know what she even had. It bypasses your stomach thus the body doesn't dump acids in the stomach to breakdown food. This allows the irritation to go away. So far so good for now, seeing the 2nd level specialist in Chicago on the 10th of Oct. I don't think there will be any miracles but we can always hope and pray.

Road construction projects
The area I live in has 3 main bridges crossing the IL river. They waited untill the 1st of September to start to work on all 3 at once. This is just plain stupid. One of the roads is only a year old! What would you need to do to a 1 yr old bridge?

what gauge wire?
sounds like some perfect world ideas but I think there is some serious overkill on the engineering front. As an example keep in mind I'm a little rusty in my ET theory and might not even have my formulas right so feel free to double check me. Using the resistance difference of lets say 8 ga to 6ga wire per foot .000739-.000465= .000274 ohms diff / foot x 16ft of wire = 0.004384 total ohms voltage drop is E(volts) = I(40 amps) x R(0.004384 ohms)= 0.17536 volts total drop ( give or take) on a 14ft boat .17536v/12=0.014613 = 1.46% loss This is only applicable with the trolling motor on full 40amps Car stereos and such comes into play as I think some are in the 200amp(?) range for the thumpers As far as AC vs DC they don't put special DC wire in generic industrial cabinets vs AC wire. 14 feet is not a long run maybe 400 but not 14. High amperages and high voltages would have a larger effect such as longs runs for power plant distribution or an aircraft feeder as wire can run for miles inside an airplane.

You know you are blue collar when...........
The only time you go to the cleaners is for a wedding or with curtains. You actualy have to think if you can afford to drive to the lake this week You ponder "do we really need soccer and basketball photos of the kids sport teams/" The only car brand you own starting with a "B" , "L" or a "V" would be a Buick The thought of buying a rod and reel combo costing more that $100 makes you break out into a sweat! Feel free to add you own this might get interesting

Road construction projects
Anyone ever notice that every road construction is exactly the same length? They are all from the first tolerable day of weather in spring untill mid November Never 1 month or 2 or 1.5 always last exactly the same. Or they are 2 years but always the same start and end date!

what gauge wire?
If you will be in saltwater then marine grade is probably a must That would be a whole different subject.
-
what gauge wire?
Compare them at the homecenter's and such. I find it unlikely that you are going to find automotive wire in 6 or 8 ga but check anyway. If going straight to a trolling motor only, you don't need any larger than the wire size of the trolling motor or the wire size on the connector. You might keep in mind though that you probably add later so you need to have enough main feeder wire size to cover the sum of the currents.

WARNING: DON'T DEAL WITH THIS PERSON Update
Where did his name and stuff go? was that in a different thread? It should stay here 2 months is way beyond anyone's expectations. We aren't bashing the guy just posting the facts. People can read and make up their own minds whether they want to deal with him. I'm thinking of making my own personal ( for me only ) list of sellers not to deal with just as a reminder to cover my butt.

My wife is the best!!!
You guys are lucky. 25 years ago for christmas I asked for a reversing 3/8' vari speed drill for christmas. Wrote down all but a model #, all she had to do was hand it to a clerk. I got a 1/4" non reversing single speed! I think you guys got the Shimano / Loomis wives - I got the Zebco lol

Best Spincaster for youngster
Fire22 Which reel are you presently using that you are having trouble with? They also make some underspins which are kind of a cross between a spinning and a spincaster. Pflueger makes one (Trion I think) and maybe Diawa? Johnson makes a spincast and so does Diawa. I'd try the Diawas before the Johnson. If you go with spinning you might consider braided line it helps a bunch with line twist as far as I'm concerned. Let us know what you decide and how it works out so we can share with others.

Symetre vs President
Why do these 2 spinning reels get compared so often? From a price prspective only, the most relevant comparison would be The Pflueger Medalist ( not the Dick's Gold version the real one) to the Symetre. Has anyone fished both of these reels?

newb needing equipment
As far as equipment $100 is a little tough for baitcasting but possibly could be done via the BPS combo route as Muddy suggested. BPS is not top end stuff but might be one of the best bangs for the overall buck. I personaly think I wold start with spinning gear. I'd try either a Shimano Symetre for $79 or a Pfluegar President for $59 or a Shimano Sahara for about the same price. For a rod, to keeep it in your price range I'd go with a Berkley Lightning rod in 6'6" or 7' M. Watch for better suggestions on rods from others. For a rod or both another option would be to watch the flea market on this forum. Cart7 and Hawgin both sell regularly and I'd feel comfortable buying from either of those two. Look at the prev posts closely of who you intend to buy from before you buy from them. I hope this helps more than hinders. Let us know what you decide and follow up on how it works out for you.

newb needing equipment
It might also help to know what you will be fishing for. Will you be fishing for bass? crappie? catfish? bluegill? Will it be just for sport or to put some fish on the table? Will it be bank fishing or from a boat? rivers, lakes or ponds?

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Kid update. Home and eating liquids only for a while but beats being fed by a tube. The long term future is still up in the air but maybe the Chicago specialist will have some ideas. At least we are not driving back and forth to the hospital every night not to mention all the worrying. The effects on the daughter are a lot more than we have to deal with anyway so we can get through it.

Anti-Reverse?
Now to really confuse things... I have a spinning reel that the clicker on/off and the anti - reverse are one and the same. Any time you wind it in it is click , click all the way. Turn it offf and the handle will run in reverse. It is a very old reel. Lets just say that the people who were assembling it were wearing bell bottoms and had long hair at the time. Now for the kicker regarding the clicker............ The reel is an Abu Garcia!!!!!!!!!!

New spinning reel needed
I own both the Pflueger President and the Symmetre. I like them both. The 6730 seems maybe a hair on the light side compared to the 2500 Symmetre. You might think about the 6735. I should add that my President does feel a little smoother than the Symmetre. My Symmetre handle didn't seem to go on as smooth from days 1 and it has some minor slop to it. No such issue on the Pflueger.Still a little too early to tell though. Bps recently had a Stradic / BPS Extreme sale ( I think it is still on ). Even without the sale the combo is a pretty good buy. Let us know what you decide

Are you ready for some football?
Muddy, 50's and 60's? heck that would have been all about the NY Giants - Ya Tittle, Frank Gifford, Pat Summerall. That is a little far back for me but they had to have been one of the winningest teams in that era. And as far as rooting for a loser I'm a Cubs fan say no more. Just mentioning the Mets and the... Cubs in the same sentence is a crime in Illinois
