NFL Throwback jersey's
Jake those I could handle. That's what they had when I was yong in the 60's and 70's. But some of those bad college looking uniforms flat out make the game boring to me. You guys are right about the marketing & $ deal I fig'd noboby would be buying them though and it would be abandoned. Apparently not as they still exist and this poll kind of shows it as well.

Lighted bobbers
for you night time panfisherman I bought those glow sticks that you can attach to slip bobbers. I just bought the replacement sticks and put a rubber band on the bobber befor tying the line. They advertise a special holder for the sticks but they are expenxive and look just like a tie wrap for like $3 ea or something silly. At any rate I fished for several hours the other night with just one stick and it worked perfectly. I liked them much better than the heavy bobbers with the lights and batteries.

Hook keepers on rods
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI saw those BPS hook keepers for $4 for 4 plus ship and handling. I figured I can do that so I just went to Ace hardware and bought a #62 o- ring for .49 and hook keeper solved. Mounted ifferently but worked for both my spinning and casting reels. Flech why do you feel the hook keeper damages a rod but yet you say plenty of places to keep the hook on the reel? If the hook keeper breaks ( which mine never has ) so be it what's the difference? You've got me confused no big deal just courious.

NFL Throwback jersey's
Man I would have bet this would be 30 to 0 for no ugly throwbacks. It is something like 8 for and 4 against at the moment. I'm shocked. Maybe I've just caught the games on the really bad jersey day? maybe its an age thing? Those Philly ones were realy bad, last year a Packers one was just as bad! The Cowboys stars look was tolerable but still boring and ugly. I was expecting the poll to be more of a way for me to vent! lol Goes to show ya that you learn something new everyday.

Sorry Jeremy didn't mean to insult your taste. They just don't sit well with me. Most look like really bad old college uniforms. Everyone has their own taste

One of the best meals I have ever had.
Of all places probably the best all around meal was at a Holiday Inn at Augusta Georgia. I had blackened New York strip for the first time. It was the best I've had in the 20 yrs since. Even the cracker dip was good. I asked for the dip recipe it was cream cheese mixed with chedder ch bits and had beer in it. The guy wasn't kidding I've made it since it it is pretty close. Maybe next best was last winter in St Louis at Hannigans. The chicken was had a sauce on it and was excellent and very affordable. The potatoes were great as well as nice salads. The place was very eye appealing not to mention having a piano player that played and sang some interesting songs. I think the dinners were $10 a piece. Even the 8 yr olds liked the piano player.

Hook keepers on rods
I love hook keepers and think they should be on all rods. I was wondering what other people felt about them.

Does anyone hate these ugly things as much as I do? Seems like they don't even pick the interesting ones. Like old Jets or old Colts or even Bears. Those yellow sissy things they had a couple of weeks ago ( for Philly?) were atrocious. Is it just me or does the NFL just not get it. What are your thoughts?

Lots of dead fish Why?
Hey WRB first off welcome aboard. That just re-inforces how good of a site BassResource.com is. No matter what off the wall question you ask, someone will have the answer for you. Great post that was the info I was looking for thanks! More complicated than I thought but great info! To me it also kind of gives you a hint on where to look for fish.

Hardest part of the Water Coloum to Fish
The hardest part of the water column for me to fish is the one without any fish in it!

Lots of dead fish Why?
Ok I led us a little astray from the git go. Measurements were taken by the DNR at the time of the kill and it was CONFIRMED that low oxygen level was the cause. Someone had complained of algea buildup in the swim area and thus copper sulphate (?) was dumped into the lake during this time. This further reduced the oxygen level. Further evidence is in the fact that many smaller local lakes and homeowner ponds had the same problem. It would be possible that all of them had contamination but very unlikely. Note the lake also has 2 air pumps running to help keep oxygen in the water. According to the DNR fish biologists the problem was that the pumps have to be at a certain height in the water column to be effective. They were not at that height. My only question all along was the mechanics of the cold rain water hitting the warmer water. Why does this reduce oxygen level? What is the science of it?

Lots of dead fish Why?
I'm not good at short conversations so... Recently the lake that I am a member of had a huge fishkill. The lake is pretty small. Hre is a link to see it for yourself www.kennellake.com Lots of landowners in the area with small lakes and ponds also had the same problem. It was while the weather was extremely hot for a long period of time. Late in the hot spell we had substantial amounts of cold rain. The way I interpreted what they said in the paper was that the cold rains kind of caused a very premature very quick turnover. This took a lot of oxygen(?) away and killed the fish? Their was predicted that we lost 4,000 to 5,000 lbs of fish in a matter of a day or so. The lake is mainly for rednecks... I mean catfishermen (same thing really!) but does also get stocked with LMB. In years gone bye when deeper it used to get stocked with Walleye and crappie. The bass seemed particularly hard hit. We also lost 2 - 34" Walleye, a 1lb Bluegill, a 35lb Flathead catfish and lots of 4lb cats and 2-3 lb LGMB's Can someone explain to me in generic terms what might have happened?

Can't accurately cast with spinning reel...why?
I started with spinning so not quite the same. I never thought about it I just do it and am just about as accurate with spinning as I am with a BC. Shorter casts are much easier at the moment with spinning. I can't get the BC set right for short casts without lash no matter what.

When fish jump, I loose them - I need HELP!
Not to plug my own thread but...that's not a bad idea. If someone would supply a write-up or something, it would be good newbie content under the FAQ or something. Too bad I don't consider myself a newb and I'm having this problem. Going out tomorrow, hopefully I'll lip-land some fish with some of these new techniques everyone has mentioned. Kind of two ways to look at it JB. A lot of guys posting had a lot of experience so it is not like newbie advice only. If this many experienced people have this many ideas then it means there is a lot of good information that a newbie can shorten their learnig curve with. Thus less frustration in the long run. And based on the experience level it looks like longtimers can pick up an idea or 2 as well.

When fish jump, I loose them - I need HELP!
Isn't this one of the best examples of just how helpful the information can be from this website? I vote this be a sticky equivelent to the rod power and action one. This is a good thread that I will hang on to. It would make a fairly good general tip for a Bass fishing newbie.

Pflueger Reel
Ala, A good deal is often in the eye of the beholder. Do some homework. Look at Bass pro shops website and see what price of new is. This is the highest end Pflueger baitcaster listed. Add in tax and possibly shipping and the reel price is probably $200. You saved $75 give or take. If the reel is 2 years old probably not such a hot deal, if only 3 mo's old then an ok deal by my standards ( just my opinion ). During a sale you could come close to getting this reel brand new at the price you paid. Cart's post that it seems like $125 is a typical price they sell for on E-bay sums it up. Ignoring the "deal or no deal" I don't have experience with Pfluger BC's only spinning. From my Pflueger spinning experience and from what I've read about their bc's on this site I think you will be happy with the performance of the reel. Let us know what you think of the reel after you fish with it a few weeks as sort of a review. Those are very handy for people considering purchasing reels.
