  1. I usually try and park the line guide in the middle, that way it doesn’t have to pull extreme far side to another, if that make sense. As for getting them out, after I get one. I try and keep my thumb close the the spool so when I feel it about to blow up, I can stop it. Hopefully it won’t be too bad, can pull it out. I pinch and pull the line up and get it loose on the spool, while pulling the main line out. I don’t know if I’m explaining it right.

  3. My condolences to everyone involved. @geo g is right, so sad and probably avoidable.

  7. Hi from the Sunshine State of Florida This a great site, I’ve learned a lot here.

  9. I think everyone talks at the fuel stop, I grab a coke and chips while fueling up. Like @jbmaine I’m the old guy, I hear someone say “He’s a local, ask him”. I give honest answers usually it’s I can tell where they’re not biting, it’s where I was just at, and they’re not biting xxx worm or xxx. But if the bite is good I tell what I was using and where.
  10. @wasabi_VA Put a telescopic handle and foldable grapple attachments for easy stowing on the boat, you just might have something marketable……really.
  11. I used to wade fished a lot when I lived in Nc. My reel got dunked a lot, I just fished on. They were spinning and spincaster rigs, I hadn’t gotten in to baitcasters yet.
  12. I’ve always liked trick worms, smoke purple was a smallie catcher for sure. Never thought of using them for a Neko rig. I will now, I think might try putting a worm rattle on the weighted side of it too.

  14. Very classy What a way to pass it on. I need to let go of old baits.
  15. I’ve retired jointed Rapala too, it caught soooo many fish, but like me it got worn out looking, hahaha. So I benched it and pulled a new out of the bull pen. I was ready to retire a small lipless crank, but lost it instead, man…I looked for that lure for hours. Like others if I ever catch a double digit, I’d like it mounted with the replica and put on display.
  16. I’m sorry to say I haven’t tried mend it, but I do save my plastic baits, and reuse them as trailers. I’ve made some Frankenstein looking set ups for spinners and jigs. After that it’s the melting pot they go.
  17. Me ether….how long they been doing that?
  18. Never heard them called “wallows” before… I like it. I was working a topwater once and a huge “wallow” appeared just behind it. Started out as a little disturbance then grew to the water roll was over 3 ft wide. My first thought was my gear is not going to handle this. Then I saw the blow, my heddon torpedo had awaken a slumbering manatee, was excited and let down at the same time.
  19. Well, ya got a jig head outta it and cleaned up the lake of fishing line. Win win. How big do ya think the bass would have been? Was it mono, braid? Sorry to go all Sherlock, just wondering why it would have broke off a 100’ feet out.
  20. Let’s not forget bubble gum. I always start with Junebug, green pumpkin, watermelon/ pearl. Then bubble gum… I think it looks like a lighter, brighter brown in lower light. Hey I’m just guessing like everyone else.
  21. My condolences to his family and all.

    Thanks for sharing that @12poundbass
  23. I think it was @redmeansdistortion or @bulldog1935 posted a link of a mini bearing washer and packer. It works great and packs bearings that want greased. I tried to post and picture but couldn’t.
  24. Valid points, and guilty, not all of the them, but guilty just the same. Like the “5 cast” dock approach, really sections it out. thanks
  25. I don’t have any kids, but my nieces and nephews were rough on gear. Spinning gear is pretty forgiving, and cheap.
