Spincast question #2
I have a micro 33, had it for about 10 years now, may a little less. I like it fishing with it it tight quarters…. And skipping under over hanging trees. They are good backpacking rigs too. Some parts are plastic nowadays so, that’s where I’ve seen wear, mostly just aging out. Other spin caster I’ve worn out was from using braid, the pickups and where the line come in the reel.( don’t know what’s it called) will show signs of wear. I tear my reels down once a year too maintain them. I personally have been eyeballing the Zebco Bullet, the lighter magnesium model.

My Casting Reel Dilemma
I would get the ratio your comfortable with for the application. If the slower ratio baitcaster is what your accustom too, stick with that. If I fish crank baits with my faster reels, I catch myself burning in the bait. I have to constantly tell my self too slow down. I seem to crank at a speed that is comfortable for me and with my crank bait rig 5:6 seems to be a speed that works for me. I like the faster ratios 7:5 and higher for buzz baits, or anywhere the strike zones are smaller and want to get the bait back to cast again. Top water fall in that range too , I think because I see the bait and can adjust my speed, and it takes up the slack faster.

Fly fishing
I was looking at my Dad’s fly gear the other day, thinking I should get that down and, go out and give it a whirl again. I haven’t fly fished since I was about 16-17, I was always getting all tangled up, just didn’t get into it then. My Dad is what I would consider a master fly fisherman, or at least in the working of fly rods. He won at competitions, taught youth groups the basics to encourage fishing. I have the custom rods that he made, I should really get them down and try again. I’ve got more patience now.

No gear needed here
You need to take that video down, and remove it from internet! If our spouses see that and and realizes we don’t need all the cool gear we have to fish with, man oh man. We’ll have some explaining to do …….they’ll be like “ Really… all you ever needed was a dead minnow in your fingers.” “How many fish poles do you own?”

I think I’ve reached THAT POINT
Blasphemy! Blasphemy! Burn at the stake! Just kidding. I know what your talking about, I have a container that keep spools of line in. Most of it is remnants of line I’ve already spooled on reels, but in the bottom of the container, I found 4 brand new in the package Hebdon Spooks. For the life of me I can’t remember ever putting them in there….. don’t tell anyone but,……I don’t even remember buying them! Has anybody ever thought that maybe….just maybe….Someone is breaking into our shops, sheds, spare rooms, or boats any where we keep our gear and is hiding tackle and stuff. Just too mess with us, Think about it, it would explain a lot.

Life Jacket In California
When you say full cover, do you mean the vest type? I got this one about a year ago, seems to be working good for me. I wish I would have bought a mustang with the hydrostatic ( hit) that goes off from water pressure rather just getting wet. I like to fish in the rain. So I end up storing it away when it starts raining. Try and get the higher rating, it designed to roll most people over if unconscious https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-35auto-auto-inflatable-life-vest-101155070

The Live Bait problem
I’m prefer artificial baits too, not that I have anything against live bait. I tell everyone I’m “too lazy” to fish with live bait. I don’t want to have go get bait just before I go fish, ether catch it, buy it, or keep it alive while fishing. The alternative I use while fishing is a boot tail, pre rigged minnow. One of them I use is made by Storm “ wild eyed” I’ve used Bass Pro’s version of it too and Berkeley. I keep one of theses rigged and on deck all the time. The people that net shiners around here will put a PVC pipe down for a marker, broadcast hog finisher feed around it come back in about 10 minutes or so and cast net shiners and go sell them to the bait house. when I’m fishing the shore line and come across one of the markers, I picked up my boot tail rig and fish 15ft-20ft both sides of the marker. Caught a lot fish all different kinds, Crappie, Bream, Bass and , even Cats.

Pros and Multiple rods
I usually keep 2-3 rigs on deck and, one 1 that I’m using at time. Top water, heavy cover, 1/w a little swim type boot tail minnow and I’m usually using my worm rod. I don’t have multiple rigs with the same baits tied on. If time was a factor I’d want multiple of everything, eyes, ears, and hands too.

Bass pro Johnny Morris carbonlite
I bought one about 2-3 years ago, I love it rod and reel, got the combo. I have the 6’6” med with a lefty 6:8 ratio, and to be totally honest, I did replace the spool bearings after about year and a half. One started making noise when casting. I went to Bass pro to by a new bait caster it was on they were on sale $70.00 plus for the reel and $70.00 plus for the rod. The combo was $205.00 , the sales guy said he didn’t know what was going on. “I just mark it what they tell us”. So I bought one , glad I did. It has been a good rig.

If You Were A GOAT
I did the traveling thing , I’m done living out of motels. I get called to consult and tech advise, but it short term travel now. Like Scarface said staying in a RV and in the camp grounds would probably better. I like the the way I fish, it’s for relaxing and stress reliever, not for creating stress. Although having all the new gear, tackle, boat and electronics sounds intriguing too. I do love to fish, I would hate to lose that by “having too fish”
