  1. This is what came to mind also, but they're not discontinued. Either not the right thing, or good news for the OP. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/gene-larew-long-john-minnow?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=Shop|BPS|TopPerformers|Fishing&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuGNBhCPARIsACbnLzoVHQVnJoMGlKTfVIVN3k4lhSV_9nrRRHkCnR4tMygGPg-cEkGzxqAaAt1IEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  2. Haven't ever had them bleed together and I toss them together in the bags pretty often. I leave them in the bags though.
  3. I switch while my bait is still in the air. A fish hitting at splash down is still getting stuck.
  4. If I'm putting braid on a casting rod, I'm not using a leader. I for sure wouldn't put a fluoro leader on if you're going to try and use it for topwaters also. It sounds like you should pick a quality mono or copolymer instead unless you're around moderate to heavy grass, then go straight braid.
  5. I don't even like fishing crankbaits but I still have 4 rods for them, 5 if you count my lipless crankbait rod.
  6. Also not a fan of fluoro for glides. Mono or copolymer is more forgiving if you don't tie a perfect knot or backlash on a cast. 20lb Big Game works well for me.
  7. Easier to hide new stuff when they all look alike.
  8. No issues with Paypal for me.
  9. You can have good sportsmanship without giving away all your spots. I saw it a lot in the kayak tournament I fished this year. The last tournament I fished, the guys I was staying with struggled on day one while I got a limit and was in the top 10. I told them the type of spots I was fishing and showed them the exact baits I caught my fish on and the area of the lake I was fishing. Even got into my tote I had my extra baits in and offered my spares when they didn't have any. Those same guys had saved my tournament when they helped me change the alternator in my truck when it died on my the first day of practice and left me broke down at the entrance into the campground. Could have just shrugged their shoulders and told me that was too bad, but instead they helped me rip my truck apart (which was way more time consuming than expected), while another ran to town and picked up a new alternator for me. Worked for a couple hours in the dark to get me up and running again just so I'd have a chance to compete against them the following days, true sportsmanship.
  10. It's where I was catching my fish Sunday. Dead center of a small cut/pocket off the main lake. They were sitting in the tops of the not yet dead grass and along the edges of the grass line that I was having to find with my baits. When I call something a cut/pocket, it's referring to a small indention or cutout of the lake shoreline but not really big enough to be a cove.
  11. Never given away any Jackhammers (I only own 1 that I found), but I've given away 5 or 6 whopper ploppers ?‍♂️ One of the last times I took my kids fishing this fall, we were smoking them in the outlet of a lake. None of them were big, but bass and big bluegill every cast. There was one other guy that didn't speak much English but obviously interested in what was going on. He came over motioning at my bait. I showed him and asked "I get where?" Right out of my box, that's where he got some of them. Just a little jighead with a safety-pin spinner and some tube bodies that you can buy anywhere. I hope the guy caught some fish to put in his bucket for his family that night. I also hope my kids were watching and learning. The older I get, the more I enjoy being where other people aren't while I'm on the water, but the fewer fishermen there are, the easier it is for private entities to take away access to the water.
  12. So far it's been a Ned rig, jerkbait, bladed jig, and RES 2 tap, just like every other year at this time.
  13. Berkley Wakebull is a really solid bait option with good color selection and quality hardware. Just a tad smaller than a -1 and easier to actually wake.
  14. Terrible, even worse to happen right during the holidays when everyone is suppose to be celebrating and enjoying family. I just drove through where a monster F5 ripped through about 30 minutes from our house a few years ago, the width and severity of the damage to the trees is hard to really comprehend. Thankfully that one hit mostly farmland (although the parents of a highschool friend did lose their house to it. He was there and even set out his Gopro right before it hit, pretty insane video). Can't imagine if it had gone through cities like this one did.
  15. All channel and blue cats have the venom in their pectoral and dorsal spines. The spines on smaller fish are just much sharper and therefore most often the culprits when someone gets stuck or cut by one. Flathead catfish, for whatever reason, do not possess this ability.
  16. Try one of these if you're looking for an affordable casting reel. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_CC_80_Casting_Reel/descpage-CC8.html I have 2 of them and they perform well above their price point. If you don't believe me, Tactical Bassin were also high on them.
  17. I've had Progressive with all my boats and they've always treated me well. Saved me a couple different times. I have insurance on my johnboat. when I added it to my plan with my Stratos, my payment went up .01 a month ?‍♂️
  18. I have several on my kayak tackle box, but only my bait company on the kayak.
  19. I put a tube jig on a weedless casting jig head once and thought I was about to set the world on fire. Pretty sure that experiment ended the same day it started. Looked great on paper, but it wasn't very functional. Seems like there's lots of easier ways to get a smaller profile on a bladed jig than with a tube.
  20. I haven't had any issue with the tube tentacles getting bent in the package. The problem is they're so thin and sticky, they just stay in one clump together and don't do anything in the water. The Ticklerz 4 bigger arms at least stay away from each other.
  21. Junebug for dark water, especially tannic stained water. B&B for darker conditions. I like to combine the 2 with my jigs.
  22. In a lake I fish often, in a single day on a Ned rig, I caught; Largemouth bass smallmouth bass flathead catfish channel catfish warmouth green sunfish rainbow trout walleye drum yellow perch white bass wiper white crappie and a partridge in a pear tree.
  23. Our water temps took a pretty big hit this past week with cold day and night temps. I went with a buddy to his private lake Friday and they were hovering around 42. There's big ones there, but we didn't find any. Sunday I went to a small lake down south hoping to be somewhat protected from the high winds that were forecast. I wasn't, but thankfully it took them a little longer than they thought for them to really get cranking. I forgot the battery for my depthfinder, which I really needed to find the grass edges, so no idea what the temps were other than cold. Yo-yoing a RES 2tap and ripping a homemade bladed jig through the grass was getting it done to start. Don't let anyone tell you Eagle Claw hooks aren't sharp. Once the sun got up, the wind really started cranking and they seemed to switch to a jerkbait more, specifically the 112 Stunna in Hanky Panky. The jerkbait fish ran mostly smaller, but the bite on the other 2 baits just kind of died. I did get a couple jig bites on a homemade finesse jig. Ended up with 26 fish in 5 hours. Got broke off by one fish that ate my bladed jig in the grass and headed away from me at a high rate of speed, guessing it was a wiper or big catfish. Not sure how much I'll get out the next few weeks. I hope to with the weather they have forecast but both my boys birthdays are next weekend, the the holidays both the 2 weekends after. I guess if I closed 2021 out like that, I can't really complain.
  24. I'll bank fish all winter long provided the water stays soft. If it gets below 40 degree surface temps, it gets really tough. A jerkbait with long pauses is my usual bait of choice. I've had some great days when parts of a pond were iced over. It seems like those that have grass are always better than those without. It was mid December and I was doing 20-30 second pauses when my line just started creeping off with this fish.
