I'm pretty sure I've never bought an expensive crankbait to boost my ego - but it's alright if you want to generalize. JMHO.... Fishing is an art. Luremaking is an art. Reel making is an art. Rodmaking.... Boat building..... etc.etc.etc. Some people would like to elevate one art form over the another, or dismiss one, or devalue any form of the sport that doesn't interest them. So you don't think that expensive crankbait is worth $20? Well, for you, it isn't.......but I know that behind that crankbait is an artisan who has likely spent years developing his skills, thousands of hours testing, and takes his passion for design seriously (visit tackleunderground.com some time). I appreciate the art - - and I don't mind supporting it. It's just another part of fishing that I get a kick out of. You do not NEED to have expensive gear. Here's a news flash - NEED HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. You don't even NEED to fish - - but the sport, and the gear involved (for many) are all just part of the enjoyment of the activity. There's no need to put down somebody because they like high-end equipment, or vice versa. I'm glad there are enough people who are interested in the high-end market to keep it going.......because even though I may not be able to afford, or even want it - I'm glad that artists are given an opportunity to push the level of design and precision forward. Excellent! Dan
  6. I use a Shimano Calcutta 300TE reel on my heavy swimbait Okuma rod. Don't know of a low-profile reel that would be appropriate although you might get away with using a Shimano Calais 200. The Calcutta is the only round reel I use out of my active 10 rigs. Dan
  7. Fantastic package SFC AL! Bill is a real Southern gentleman. I have one of his signed hats too but I had to pay $$ for mine . Hang tough and stay safe while you complete your mission young man. We all support you and your buddies as you protect and fight for our freedoms and safety. Dan
  8. I use an unweighted, 4/0 GY Sugoi hook(EWG hooks of other makes will work too but the Sugois are my hook of choice for 10 years) on my Swimming Senkos. If your SSs are twirling, then you are reeling too fast or the SS isn't dead-straight on the hook. The SS will have plenty of tail action at a slow retrieve. I've had 4 and 5 lbers pick one up in shallow(where I could see them) water even by dead-sticking it. They are a fine bait but fish them slowly. Dan
  9. Just ask your Mother for a full sack of flour or sugar. Put it in a plastic grocery bag and weigh it. Those bag's weights are government controlled so you should know if your scale is correct after weighing a bag(or two). Dan
  10. An advantage with the rod tip held high is it keeps the line off of the water..... Dan
  11. I want mine 'pegged' because of all the wood in the water where I fish. If the weight is free-sliding, the weight and the bait can separate and get more easily wrapped around an underwater limb. Dan
  12. 'Fangtastic' FISH fb!!! Good luck on your LM 15+ lber! Dan
  13. Fine FISH young man!!! Dan
  14. Been using them for a few months now. The "stops" are made of a soft plastic(or rubber?) that grips the line when the stop is pulled onto it. There is a small bead that can be used too. The "stops" will slide on the line if you're using heavier weights but they do work. You only need one stop for pegging a weight but you can use two for creating a mini-C-rig. Dan
  15. Thanks for the idea and the link BFM. I just placed an order for some along with the special weights. I'm a sucker for new ideas. Dan
  16. Yep, sure did!
  17. Excellent catchin' Ob!!! Man, I miss Florida! Dan
  18. Fine, fat Bass....I think! Great fish young man! Dan
  19. What a fantastic BASS Daniel!!! You are right in being proud of her! 8-) Living in middle GA, just about 60 miles from where the WR was caught........ 10 lbs is my lower limit for a lunker and I still haven't achieved that goal. Dan
  20. Fine Fish young man!!! Keep on 'taking your Dad to school'! Dan
  21. Way to go Jayce! What a great Bass you've got there young man! Keep on fishing and having fun with your Dad. 8-) Dan
  22. LawdhaveMercy but that's Saweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! There's just something about a Porsche.... 8-) Dan
  23. I recently read where someone got their cell phone wet but it worked OK after it throughly dried out. I'd use a hair blower on it. Dan
  24. Thank you for the kind words Avid. I'm skunking out a lot lately too. Just keep on getting out on the water and something will work for sooner, rather than later, I'll bet. As was recommended in your other post, consider hiring Randall to take you Bass fishing on Lake Varner. I've been with him twice now and will be going again. Dan
