  1. Not being able to fish for 6 months of the year.
  2. How sick am I of winter?, -24 night before last. -18 last night, blew 4 more in. of snow this morning ( for the third time this week ) So sick that I'm leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks on Guntersville. It may be cool down there but the water is soft and I'm going fishing or, my wife tells me I am DEAD MEAT.
  3. Dear Raider, could you please tell me why you wish to be the president and Ann Landers at the same time. I am firmly convinced that the current resident of the white house would be much better as Ann Landers. You on the other hand, with your time as a blue color worker, would be much better at understanding the needs of the American working folks. The current resident of the WH could answer questions like: Why do my kids complain that their school lunch tastes like cardboard or, how can I get my golf score down, or what is it like to spend so much time on vacation. You on the other hand, can answer questions like: How can we get this job done on time and on budget, or why don't we do this right and give the customer a break. Good luck on both of your projects Ann Landers? President, where do I send my donation?
  4. I have what is a 16 year old version an Alumacraft bass boat. Still use it and have loved it forever. I am leaving Wed. for a 2 week trip to Guntersville and the boat we are using is the exact same model and HP you are asking about. It has a welded hull and will take any pounding you can give it. We fish the Mississippi 45-60 days a year and that boat is a perfect river boat. 70 lb./24 volt trolling motor is perfect for river fishing. Great choice, I'm sure you will be happy with it. Last year, that boat sold in Wis. for $20k exactly.
  5. I just got back from the Cabela's in Green Bay. ($115 bait monkey bite) and asked the fishing dept. mgr. if they had the new Curado 1 . His answer was "What new Curado" God I wish I had a BPS closer than Chicago.
  6. Poor, poor you, at least it will be gone in a couple of days. We've got at least 4-6 more weeks of this crapola.
  7. Just use a uni/uni knot and don't sweat the small stuff. It works.
  8. Come on. any fish over the legal length is a nice fish. Just have fun catching them.I don't qualify each fish with an ego trip. Fishing is a jerk on one side of a line waiting for a jerk on the other side.
  9. I also remember "'the Wizard of Oz" but don't think we'll walking the yellow brick road any time soon. However, after setting a record 49 days below zero here in Green Bay this winter, I'm heading to Guntersville for two weeks on Wed. I don't care if it's only 50 down there, the water is soft and I'm going fishin.
  10. Isn't it going to hurricane season down there soon?
  11. And your answer to that was: "sure, lets go upstream and spawn you smooth talker"
  12. At least one year at a Ivy League college worth.
  13. I am a 68 year old "Yuppie" (where did that part of the question come from?) I use a 6'6" medium action, fast tip, St Croix with a Shimano Stadic 2500 series and 6 or 8 lb. Trilene X-L. But I would be willing to bet that the "Yuppies" will have a better educated answer cause they are a whole lot smarter the old guys like us who call them yuppies. I'm just kidding, The young guys are what keeps bass fishing advancing and us ole guys live in a world of our own and hate change. I don't like floro line, Alabama rigs, or lures that have electronic guts. Hell, beadlescomb, lets just not fish the dropshot at our age, it's only a few years old.
  14. Pre-spawn? Lets see, it's -5 with a -17 wind chill right now . The highest temp. in the 10 day forecast is + 19 on the 5th. The long range forecast is a high of +32 on the 10th. Night temps still well below freezing. There is 40+ in. of ice on most of our lakes. I would say, 45-50 temps will hit our lakes about the last week in May and again this year, the smallies will still be spawning on the 4th. of July.
  15. Good old Zebco 33 @$30 and a ugly stick @$30 and your good to go for a lifetime. Just change the new line on the 33 cause the stuff they put on it is like cable. 6 lb. trilene xl will work fine.
  16. Check where I am from, I fish up there quite often. Pretty tough to catch them from shore at that time of year. Might want to put on a pair of shorts and sneakers and wade out as far as you can. Throw crawfish colored tubes. Great shoreline in the state park just south of where you are going. Good luck.
  17. All I "really ever wanted to do was go fishing" or," All I ever really wanted to do was go fishing" . " To know me, you must know this" . " I fish, therefore I am" . My Dads favorite: "dammit, I need to go fishing or I'll go nuts" My wife of 44 years: " If you don't get out of here and go fishing, I'll either kill you or myself" My daughter in law, " I hate you, you taught Mitch to fish when he was 5 and all he wants to do is fish".(guilty) . "Born to fish, forced to work " , Geeze, I got a bunch, but I'll quit with these. Tight lines my brothers of the angle/dangle.
  18. Chris Lane, EE, Not KVD. No, not KVD. Sorry. Lost me a couple of years ago when he tried to stop others from going under the bridge in the classic. Nobody owns water.
  19. I still catch a lot of bass on early 90's era Bandits 100 series (square bill) 200 and 300 series. Love those old colors.
  20. Has anyone tried a floating Trap? They are really easy to control shallow and you can slow roll them without hanging up. They really do catch fish.
  21. I got a kick out of your "really old pre 80's" My underwear is pre '80's. Now, there is no way I would sell anything you have without getting an honest appraisal. It might cost a few bucks but, it sounds like you have quite a lot of equipment there and just one lure or reel could put a kid through college. Don't count out the old bamboo rod either. Good luck.
  22. Knuffsaid, I think I understand what you are looking for. Not so much "how to" as, what your many years of fishing experience has taught you. Likes, dislikes, habits (good and bad), old stories, old friends, old tackle, old memories. I'm 68, My best fishing buddies as I grew up chasing trout all over Michigan's U.P. were my Dad and Grandfathers and uncles. I came from a family that lived to fish. Lots of "all of the above". Later, I trout fished all over the west with good friends. In the mid "90s I was in an accident and could no longer wade trout streams, so I started bass fishing, (my need to fish will never go away) I have been lucky enough to have fished a lot of the best bass lakes in the south over the last 20 years. I guess what I'm saying is: It isn't all about the fish, but the stories, friends and memories. Good luck in your quest, I hope you find those things that are important to we "oldtimers"
  23. X2 on the Cordel "spots" for lipless. I still catch fish on them.
