  1. Right? haha
  2. Congrats on the new PB and sorry to hear about the phone. That's the definition of bitter sweet! I kayak fish sometimes and the smartest investment I ever made (be sides already owning an inflatable PDF) was buying a water proof phone case. Even though I'm super careful not to "field test" it, I never launch with out using it. Don't ask me how I know it "works"...
  3. Yup. It works and works well. Basically the same pattern I was fishing, except I substituted a soft plastic jerk bait for the soft plastic stik bait.
  4. No problem. Glad to help. If haven't already, try it with a "fluke" or a "Senko". At times the results can be spectacular!
  5. "Fly-lining" is usually a term where an angler present a live bait with little to no weight. In the case I was referring to it's a Texas rigged plastic without the bullet weight.
  6. Similar, but different... Knowing when to give up on shallow topwater and start fly-lining soft plastic jerk baits. That pattern was deadly for me early on and continued to produce deep into the summer.
  7. Dang! haha
  8. It's this time of the year, and its not even close! Cooler days, water is still warm and some of the best fishing (fresh and salt) and surfing of the entire year!
  9. Wait... Have you seen this more than once? I never have, but I sure would like to! Haha
  10. I have the same kayak and the same truck! haha BTW, I agree with the people that have recommended and entry level model or a used one on Craigslist.
  11. 8" Triple Trout
  12. You better believe it! I run my rig on a LV 500 though...
  13. R.I.P. My condolences. My little brother passed away a little over two months ago. He didn't even make it to 40. Life is precious. Life is short. Fish every cast like it was your last cast...
  14. All the people I know with those reels love the durability on them.
  15. Another vote for Tacklewarehouse.com and you sound like a great person and are spot on with gift card idea as opposed to a specific gift since fishing gear is so subjective to the individual.
  16. True, True... I was just discussing this with a coworker today. I have given all five of the mainstream big boys (for reels) a fair shake and I ALWAYS come back to Shimano. I do feel Daiwa in on par with Shimano as well. For rods I have a few that I like, again, including Shimano/ Loomis, Daiwa, Falcon and Kistler. Saltwater its again, Shimano and Dawia along with Batson and Calstar. Truth be told though, at the end of the day its really all about fishing what you are comfortable with and enjoy...
  17. While its true for most things in life that you get what you pay for, I find this to be true for Flouro more so than any other types of fishing lines. While expensive braids and Monos might out perform there less expensive counterparts, I find for me personally that there is less of a measurable performance distance than when it comes to Flouro. I tried several different manufacturers and models of Fluorocarbon and never really cared for any until I tried Sunline. I know love using Flouro for bottom contact baits. Same happened for me when I first tried Tungsten weights as well for bottom contact fishing.
  18. I know in a perfect world all reels would perform at a peak performance level right out of the box, but unfortunately;y this is just not so. Reels can and often are over-packed with grease from the factory. A simple cleaning can produce top notch performance levels in some cases.
  19. Oil - Shimano oil. Grease - Cal's grease is the best!
  20. I use the SD Jam knot for 99% of my fishing (Palomar for drop shot). Honestly any knot should be just fine as long as it is TIED CORRECTLY. Practice, practice, practice...
  21. I do it all. Boat, shore, kayak, float tube, etc. If I'm shore fishing, I pack very light. Two rods only. On the boat, I usually have at least a 1/2 dozen laid out on the deck if not more.
  22. I own four of them and love them. Think about it, the B series came out over 10 years ago and is still a top seller for Shimano. I believe its the oldest reel in their current line up. That's really saying something for the quality of the build of that reel. BTW, almost all that I fish these days are CU's and CT's.
  23. I fish the 130 on 25 lb test on my 7'11" Crucial Swimbait rod.
  24. I have two CU 300E's to throw Swimbaits and A-Rigs and I love them!
  25. My favorite frog by far and its not even close. IMO the absolute best value for the money as well.
