  1. I fish from a canoe some. Carry a leaterhman on my belt, needlenose pliers, small scissors and side cutters with my gear. Swiss Army knife in one pocket a one hand opening knife "SWiss Tech" from Wally world in the other. Thats a sharp, smooth, tight knife.
  2. What broke me of the Texas rig addiction was Chara Algae. I could not throw a weighted texas rig in that stuff. So I started throwing other baits like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, spooks,frogs... on the outdisde, pockets, any kind of cut or jut. I had to do so quietly and accurately. Best thing that has happenned for my fishing skills in the past twenty years. Almost everyone else avoided the stuff like the plague. I embraced it and it paid off big time.
  3. Yeah, Texas rigs.
  4. I'll be yo-yoing the bait off the bottom. The sound is magnified through the hull of the boat, When the Red Eye shad is falling , it can still be heard as it wobbles. When a bass hit it or smacks it , the sound changes. I can hear the one knocker too. Any rattling crankbait for that matter. I have a silent Red Eye Shad with a loose weight, that barely makes a noise. I can hear it too. That one is my favorite. @A-Jay y also has one he, said he would go swimming for it.
  5. The 1/2 oz Red Eye Shad. Yo-yoed off the bottom on points. I use the rattling, one knocker and silent versions. When fishing in an aluminum jon boat, I can hear the hits when using the rattling lure.Shad colors, chartreuse and chrome. If they are choking on it then I have the right combination. If they are barely hooked, slashing at it , or I can hear hits but not feel them, then I'll start changing things. Color , sound , aggresiveness of hops, to try to get them to take it better.
  6. I've been doing it for years. Half a stick bait with skirt material . Posted about it here probably around 14 years ago. Originally I did it for river smallmouths but it proved effective for reservoir largemouths. Rigged them on a jighead. As far as i know Dan Gapens Ugly Bug was the first. Its nothing new.
  7. Ditto. I have never used a leader and dont plan on it. I tie a trilene knot which rarely fails. The line breaks before the knot breaks. People say thats impossible but I think maybe not. Before monofilament breaks it stretches. Maybe the line forming the knot does not stetch like the main line. Thats my hypothesis . Oops, off topic.
  8. This is stupid. I counted my Dredgers and there are 27 of them. I need at least one more 20.5 because I only have three of those.
  9. I was canoeing/fishing a small river for the first time and came to a bridge. The hillbillies hung pig carcasses from the bridge making an automatic fish feeder . The maggots fall in the water . In the picture , fish activity can be seen .
  10. Nice little haul.
  11. The Manns 20 plus was mentioned in the video. I dont think I ever caught a bass with that one. I still have a few 15 plus but they never caught a lot for me either. I had the 10 plus same thing. Those lures never worked for me. I did have good luck with the Manns Razor Back Pigs both shallow and deep billed. I still have a couple of those that need dusting off.
  12. I Carolina rigged a Bomber Long A Minnow one day and caught a couple. Never have tried it since. I'll have to reintroduce myself to that . I have some Rapalas collecting dust.
  13. I still throw those like a 12 year old . Ditches, ponds, rivers, ox-bows anywhere there are bass. I found some vintage 3/8 oz ones at an old tackle store a few years back and had plenty of big fish photos in the latest catch picture thread caught on beetles.
  14. Those things are still only 5 bucks and will hold their own against all the lures available today.Reminds me. I busted the lip off my Baby Bass 5A last fall, need to pick up another.
  15. I did it with a Norman deep 22 . First cast . Never bought another one. Didnt even see it splash down, it might be in orbit.
  16. When I joined Bass resource about a decade ago , I posted a picture of half senkos with skirt material running through them .Being I was using Photobucket , that picture is gone. Looked a little like the old Gapens Ugly Bug without the jig head. So I'm going to take credit for this hottest new thing.😀
  17. My local farm store has a better fishing dept than Wal Mart. I was there today snooping around and there were All Star rods labeled ASTEAM with an Academy Sports tag on them .. They are bright red , ugly things but light weight. If I was blind folded and handed one I would think favorably of it. They are only thirty dollars. I'm wondering how they ended up here and what the original price was. Does anyone know how much they went for at Academy? I had no luck with google.
  18. This is a great bait early in the year. The natural crawdad caught a lot of big for me. I Lost or broke that bait long ago but still carry one or two in different colors.
  19. My dad and his brothers didnt like bass either. They preferred catfish and crappie. My dad changed his mind quickly when I fried some up.. Turns out he loved bass . Couldnt get enough of it.
  20. I dont buy very many new baits because I have all these old baits that are new to bass. They dont see them.
  21. I fished Bull Shoals when it was thirty foot high . Caught lots of fat smallmouths thirty foot deep on tubes and 1/4 oz heads off of points.
  22. My best squarebills are squirrelly. My best deep divers are perfectly straight and run up under the boat.
  23. The profile of crankbaits are pretty much the same. The actions differ broadly. Same with spinnerbaits and other lures.I say action , vibration and water displacement is more important. Would that be profile?
