  3. I never had much luck with them , just caught a couple of fish but I still have some of the hooks .
  4. I use 1 ounce weights for Carolina fishing and bobber stops or Carolina keepers do not work, I tried them . Maybe if I used several they would hold .
  5. I just got a memory from when I was a young teenager . I read in a magazine about pork rind being a good bass bait . I didnt know it came in jars . I went down to the local grocery store and asked the butcher if he had any pork rind . He asked me what I wanted it for and I said bass fishing . He sliced me up some pork fat , free of charge . I took it down to where a creek meets the Mississippi river .I tied on a hook attached a piece of pork and began casting it around with my cheap Zebco 202. I didnt catch a bass but the gars loved it .
  6. How did you catch it and what part of the country ?
  7. I used them some . Caught some pigs with it but bites were few and far between . This phot is about 40 years ago and we were not catching any fish . I told the guy I was with "If I'm not going to catch any fish , I may as well not be catching big ones" so I tied on a jig and spring Lazard and caught this one .
  8. I used pork a lot . Black or Brown . I liked to mix black on a brown jig or vice versa . It is a big bass lure .
  9. I dont know about all that stuff . I have caught big bass on Beetle Spins . I use to fish Colorados exclusively , especially those big copper ones but it seemed to me the bass get accustomed to them rather quickly while willows still get bit . Now I almost exclusively throw a willow with a 4.5 or 5 main blade even in dingy to muddy water .
  10. The frogs use to have a small slit punched in , that is where the hook goes . It was still a booger to get off .
  11. He has a fascination with bass lures already .Hes going to be a fisherman .
  12. It looks like a small creek. The dotted blue line is the channel . It says so on the upper reaches of the lake .
  13. Look at the map and there is a dotted blue line . that is the channel but it is not well defined . Nice structure lake but I bet it gets a ton of pressure .
  14. https://www.bassresource.com/maps/fishing-spots-maps.html Its really easy to see on this map , suppled by Bass Resource. Big Creel Lake Des Moines Iowa I take that back . There is no well defined creek channel on the map . I was looking at the wrong lake .
  15. I have hind-sight after every time I go fishing . Next year I plan on bringing jerk baits out in the warm months . I think some nice bass can be lured out of the thick brush with them .
  16. As far as blade spacing the further apart the faster it retrieves without turning over . The close the more vibration . I learned this from Smalljaw , who knows blades .
  17. Where I'm from Wal Mart has parking for horse and buggy .
  18. I had a Titanium bait that was doing well . It eventually broke on me so I transferred the blades to a hand poured bait . Ended up losing that lure because of a faulty knot. In the mean time I had copied the blade combo with the blades I had on hand .I didnt have any gold or silver # 2 colorados but did have some coppers ,so assembled a couple with the gold copper combo . It worked real well , its all I used for the last few months of the season .
  19. I think Jimmy Houston won a Bassmaster event on one of the great lakes . The water was extremely rough and he made the statement that he was going to make the run and win the tourney or sink his boat trying . Anyway , thats how I remember the article . He won on the St Lawrence , that might be the event I vaguely recall .

    chocolate .
  21. I havent fished jerkbaits much . My last outing I was skunked for four hours then gave a jerkbait a go . I then caught ten bass on the Rick Clunn bait from Wal-Mart .
  22. Feider. I think he would drink a few beers with me afterward .
  23. walleye , sauger , crappie and bluegill are my favorites . Then largemouth bass . Catfish and white bass are too fishy tasting . I had yellow perch once and it was so good . I caught a mess of big green sunfish once ice fishing and they were excellent .
  24. I dont want a lot of thump from my blades so I almost always use a willow Colorado combo . I caught 462 bass this year on that combo . Not saying the Indianas are not just as good, I just tend to stay with what is working for me .
