  1. I use the Carolina rig for covering deep , open water quickly . Texas rigs for cover or more precise situations . I hardly throw a Carolina rig these days .
  2. They have the entry for Santee Cooper up now . Has Guntersville been cancelled ?
  3. I spotted them at Bass Pro Shop and remembered someone recommended them . I got the 4.0 1/16th ounce . The 5.0 looked to long . I no longer have to rig the bait with a slight bow to keep it upright so it also gives them a little better action rigged straight . This is my second year toad fishing and its been a constant evolution .
  4. Small bullet weight and bobber stops .
  5. Once I determine I have a bite I'm setting the hook . I cant tell a six lber from a 1 lber from a panfish . I know a lot of times a bluegill will go peck , peck , peck but I have felt large bass do the same thing .
  6. Youre going to have a hard time getting any decent fish out of that slop with that setup . But if thats all you have you will have to fish over it . I'd try a Beetle Spin .
  7. I've done lots of jig fishing in the past . I know where a bunch of fresh brush piles are that texas rigs go through easier . The kind of brush with small spindly limbs . But if I'm setting hooks on crappie , I might be better off using a jig . I'll see next time .
  8. I dont use jigs as much as I do Texas rigs . That might be a mistake because I'm fishing in a lot of brush piles and keep getting crappie hitting the 8 inch worms , I set the hook and get hung , ruining the spot . Thats it , next time I'm tying on a jig . I like toads in scum but miss a lot of fish .Thats just the nature of the game . Cant catch them if I dont throw in there . Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits go through wood real well . Spinnerbaits have been hot for the past month and I get them deep into wood , often pitching .
  9. The Bomber Flat A is what I used on the Mississippi .I dont get out on the big river anymore . It rattles like a lipless . I use the long billed one in chartreuse .
  10. I got some of these and used them yesterday . They are my toad hook for now . I didnt have much of a toad bite going on but liked the way they performed . I missed the first ten bites , but that was the fishes fault . Ended up catching eight on it .
  11. I initially used them weighted because it gave plenty of weight for easy pitching . Now I use them weighted because the bass take them .
  12. That is the first bass lure , other than crappie jigs , that I caught bass on .
  13. Feider Johnston Johnston Hamilton Livesay
  14. Pools 22 and 24 , There is no 23 , have dikes that are above the water , those are easy and productive .
  15. I fished the Mississippi quite a bit years ago but I imagine its a lot different here than where you are located . I mostly fished rock and backwater areas . Wing dams were good as well as rip rap banks .Cast upstream and bring the lure down with the current as much as possible . That does require a faster retrieve . If there are wing dams with breaks in them , those are good spots .When fishing rock I mostly used spinnerbaits and crankbaits . I like the Bomber Flat A with the long lip in chartreuse . Backwater areas , I treated a lot like a lake but still fished with the current if there was any.
  16. Im not to good at ciphering but isnt that the same ??
  17. I have a brand new multi pack of Blue Fox inlines that I bought a long time ago. I never used in-lines much , I should give them a go some day on the river .
  18. Texas rigged something . Whatever I have a hankering to throw at the time . Worm , craw or lizard usually .
  19. I jumped in to get a rod and reel , and glasses but never a lure .
  20. My crankbait bite has shut down . I dont have and cant find a crank for the 10 to 12 foot zone without rattles. I'm thinking the noisy baits might be scattering the fish . I bought a balsa wood DT16 and I'll be darn, it has a rattle too .
  21. They sure do . One of these days I might figure out what sets this 100 foot area apart from all the rest of similar areas . There is something there that I am blind too , that draws the bass to it . I'll call it "Dark Structure" .
  22. I know an area on this elec motor only lake that has a lot going on . Creek channels , ledges , depth changes .I have studied it, went back and forth with the depth finder , fished the best looking areas with little success . I catch a fish or two now and then but it seems like there should be a spot that consistently holds fish . Its not fishing pressure , I'm the only person using a depth finder that I know of .Same lake , nothing looking flat bank and this place produces time after time . I guess the best explanation is Bass dont always play by the rules . You guys have similar experiences ?
  23. Whats a Free rig ? Ok , I googled it . Pretty interesting . The video I saw the guy was using a lead weight molded around a swivel , like catfish anglers use . Wouldnt using " ol'bullet worm weights" be a Texas rig ? .
  24. If you are fishing from bank , it will probably have limited applications . I never use floating cranks from bank . Parallel casting banks , especially rocky banks would be a place to try it . They are not designed as a top water bait , they work best when allowed to dive next to fish hiding areas .
