  1. grab an ultralight rod and slap a big reel on it and go to town lol but really a heavier setup would do you better unless you will be on an open area where there is nothing to get snagged on or cut you off
  2. with a big cooler and an umbrella hat really right now for bass ill only fish at night its too hot during the day
  3. lol or you could just switch to a spoon
  4. why not just get out there and fish a time or 2 and see how it goes first? then see what you need or dont need
  5. im almost the same...most of my fishing has been with a 7'6 8/17 with a 2500 reel(bass, snook, redfish, trout, jacks, etc) for the last couple months at least...i even throw a little bit heavier stuff than i should with it but it works fine
  6. i have a friend who uses wire for everything bass, snook, trout, redfish etc and he does fine and even says its easier to tie(it takes me a while to tie wire so i think hes a bit crazy lol) but he catches tons of fish so really just use what you prefer cause the fish dont care
  7. looking at some youtube videos and with a couple cheap tools and thread you could get a functional rod built in a few hours max...it probably wont look awesome but if you follow directions and do it right it should last a long time...my first rod broke because i was being stupid with it lol wish i still had it youll probably spend about $100 or so in materials to get started but they will last you a few rods even with practicing....save all your broken or crappy rods and if you see any in garbage or so grab them too you can make reamers out of them or use them to practice your thread wraps and such
  8. lighter is excellent...like 10 years ago? i used to fish with such heavy cheap walmart stuff and good lord after about 6 hours makes your arms hurt and 12-14 hours even worse lol
  9. ok ill probably upset some people but oh well.... firstly i use braid without a leader bass fishing and braid with a MONO leader saltwater fishing the only reason i use the mono leader is because i want a thicker line at the end thats harder to cut on gill plates and such if you use flouro leader you are just wasting your money and to prove it anyone can come fishing with me anytime (youll have to come here to south florida lol) and you can use flouro and ill use straight braid or braid/mono(salt) and show you that flouro is just overpriced junk
  10. i go where ever im near at the time that has what i need...but i prefer small shops because they usually are fisherman themselves and will usually tell you where a hot bite is or what the water conditions are
  11. i usually do the through the gills if the barb is sticking out ill use some dykes to cut the tip off and back it out if i figure it will die ill bring it for my neighbor...he eats anything so lol
  12. hope you catch a bunch my friend works at disney in the marketing dept. and he loves the fishing there @DWT yeah even though is disney is pretty much the normal cost...most guides that i know of are charging around $450-500 for a 4 hour trip...but most guides will tell you its not just about going to catch some fish its about the whole experience whatever that means lol
  13. better to pack your stuff safe and not let them worry about not damaging it....my friend used to work for ups and she unloaded the planes and loaded trucks too and she said most of the people that helped her threw everything around like nothing was breakable even if it said fragile
  14. i find stuff that can hold up to my abuse and i tend to stick with that...i dont clean my reels or even wash them off lol so they have to hold up to saltwater without a cleaning ever...rods i build mine and i like to try new things on that
  15. derekxec replied to CrossK's topic in Fishing Tackle
i use a bunch lol bang, megastrike, some oil i cant think of the name, carolina lunker sauce but my go to is carolina lunker sauce in both the hard bait and soft
  16. sucks man i would be waiting for them to get out so i could give them a proper beating too lol.....and i live in south florida and all my cop friends say if you going to shoot someone make sure you kill them cause in court its your word vs theirs and dead people cant talk...a warning shot will land you in jail for many years
  17. bigger baits dont necessarily mean bigger fish....you can catch giants on tiny baits and small fish on giant baits and here is 2 examples of personal experience caught a 43lb snook on a 1 inch square chunk of bait and also caught a 15 inch sea trout on a 14 inch live mullet lol
  18. you should probably rest cause if you make it worse youll be not fishing for even longer...you could also grab a cane pole or so or clean out your tackle boxes and get everything ready for when your 6 weeks is over
  19. my niece is 4 years old and was the same way...she would go to bed scared as hell and i would say why you scared? she said the monsters in the dark so i told her if they bother you just punch them in the face they will leave you alone then lol and now she wakes up saying she almost had to punch one in the face lol
  20. im with you man except for the cake lol i dont eat desserts but i could have some clams or so for dessert
  21. i use one with a shimano sedona 2500 for snook fishing
  22. thats what i was thinking lol i might have to grab a couple of these and umbrella rig them to make an even bigger school and see how snook like it lol...i like my other live target lures they catch lots for me so why not this one too
  23. live target bluegill with the round bill
  24. im a bit weird about jig fishing...for bass its tooo slow for me i hate using jigs bass fishing now if im snook fishing i can cast a jig out and reel it so slow that it takes forever to get back in lol....not sure why but always like this
  25. agreed. rod ratings are very subjective
