I have the exact same rig, even LH retrieve reel. The Zillion combo just feels so sweet when out on the water, doesn't it?

Something to keep in mind... If this will be your only PC, I'd recommend a USB hard drive, full size monitor, mouse and full-size keyboard The laptop's great for carrying around campus, but the large monitor/mouse/keyboard are much nicer to work from when in your dorm room. And the USB hard drive is good to have (and to backup to frequently) in the event the laptop has an 'accident'. The last thing you want is to have a beer (er, I mean soda) spilled on the laptop and fry it 1 day before a paper is due with no backup.

This is a situation I have not fished in my local waters, but I certainly do want to try it Some things I'd consider (with the caveat I stated above) if I was about to fish a similar situation... 1) 50+ lb braid if fishing in grasses/weeds 2) use a heavy sinker with a small profile (tungsten, if possible) 3) bury the hook inside the bait, as Catt mentions 4) use a compact soft plastic bait that does NOT have a lot of appendages so it slides through the vegetation

Big jig, big soft plastics (Brush Hog, 10+ in worm, etc), 5 in+ swimbait I know this exact feeling. I fish a buddy's family's pond as well and it's the same thing -- sorting through 30-40 small bass for a picture-worthy fish. They just recently shocked it to see how the fish population looked. We now have standing orders to remove anything below 3 lbs. I accepted this task in the hopes of running into a few of the bigger gals while removing her little buddies

What are you planning to throw with this rod?

The AVC66MF is my dedicated jerkbait and topwater rod, but I consider it an "all-around" rod for all medium weight treble hook lures. I also recommend this Avid for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and small swimbaits. 8-) How did I know you'd say that?

But when you're watching two 8+ lbers circle a bed (with a 12 inch "pimp" male), waiting for that right moment, and it just doesn't come? DOH! Like I said to Randall on the water...I think we witnessed bass going from prespawn to spawn on to postspawn in a matter of about an hour. But as usual, I got my money's worth out of Randall by learning a few tips and tricks.

My thoughts (ie guesses )... --the north end will show spawning activity first due to warmer water. Similarly, they'll also finish spawning earlier than those fish on the south end --the location of the beds will likely be dictated by water clarity and bottom hardness

I'm also a bit puzzled seeing them listed as X-fast in the BPS catalogs... I have one I picked up in the last year or so and it certainly is nowhere even closed to being XF or F

My Mg69APC/Revo STX is the combo I fish the most with simply because I think it excels in the applications I like to throw most frequently Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, lipless crankbaits and I just recently have started throwing more of the ~5 in paddletail swimbaits with this rod When I take a roadtrip and can only bring a limited amt of tackle, this rod ALWAYS goes with me. And although the applications I listed above are the once I use most frequently, I have also fished senkos, ~1/4 oz T-rigs/jigs just fine.

Yep, for $2600 I'd take two 101 lb Minn Kota transom motors. Or two 80 lb Minn Kotas and a Side Imaging unit

Go bigger than 14 feet -- especially if you'll be fishing with someone else on the boat for the majority of the time. I have a 1548 now and I love the boat. I do, however, wished I went for the next model up -- a 1654. Go with a welded, mod-V bottom jon and not a flatbottom. If you like the 14, go for it. But that extra foot or two on the 15 or 16 footer adds a LOT more room.

I'm not that dense, it is totally overkill, though. Just ditch the console, put a swivel seat in there, and extend the casting platform. How fast can the thing go? Its not like you'll need that windscreen blazing down the lake at 5 mph, LOL. I think they took the easy way out, and didn't think the whole idea through, from the ground up. An electric only could be so much more than this. Just look at what some of our members have done themselves. This boat looks like an electric motor retrofitted bass boat, not an "all new design" as described in the marketing literature. I agree -- it's like they want to respond to the needs/wants of the electric-only fishing population without asking that same population what they want in a boat Personally, I'd have ZERO use for the seats or console. Just wasted space in my eyes

My modded jon has both a bow mount and a transom mount TM. I flip the transom mount on via a bigfoot switch on the front deck and steer with my foot controlled TM. Works just fine that way, and I haven't yet fallen off the boat while driving. That's what I'm looking for on this rig. One 65-80 lb TM up front, and two 80-100 lb TM in the rear. All the finish and storage of a bass boat. My perfect boat

Anyone see this? G3 released an electric-only bass boat. As someone who fishes electric only, I'm glad to see a manufacturer do something like this. I'd love to be able to purchase this boat only w/o the motors and electronics that they have packaged with it. But with that said, I have no idea what their justification would be for leaving the console w/ steering wheel and the full seats. I don't think these are needed at 5 mph

I guess I could have been clearer... The reel seat is loose on the blank itself. The reel fit is fine.

Hey all, As I was cleaning the cork grips on my rods today, I noticed on of the real seats was a bit loose. Is this something I can remedy myself, or do I need to bring in a pro?

You bringing your boat with you up to KSU? From there you're only 20-30 min from my place so we can meet up a time or two again

I like the Luck E Strike hooks. They're MUCH cheaper than the others, yet the quality seems fine to me. 4/0 may be OK for the 3.5 inch baits, but I don't use those. However, I like the 6/0 for 4.5 - 5 inch paddletail swimbaits

You're making it sound like planting brush guarantees winning tournaments. Last time I checked, the fish still have to be there AND they need to be willing to bite. To me, cheating is one of 2 things: 1) doing something expressly prohibited by law or tourney rules 2) doing something the other competitors cannot do I don't see either of those being violated by planting brush
