My Old Dog New Tricks Thoughts On The Features In Todays Equipment
The only thing about older equipment I'll say had a benefit is it was easier and cheaper to clean, fix, and get parts for. Look at the garcia Mitchell spinning reels, it has like... 8 parts lol! And you can beat those reels sensless. I use them for catfish But as for technology, it's only gettin better and better. My dad's hookset looks like he's gonna do a back flip because he grew up with whippy 6 ft rods. And that's usually what he uses always. I respect that. But it's not for me or alot of people. Last note I think what turns people off about today's gear is the high price your paying for it and what your getting.

Most Forgiving Line For A Baitcaster?
14-17 lb mono like stren or trilene. Heavy line is easier to pick out over runs. Light line can knot up real easy.

Fishing A Jig Without A Weedguard Is Rough....
Get the jigheads molded with a worm hook if you want to fish jig style with a lot of weeds. If its that nasty slime can't do anything about that except keep your bait off the bottom. With the jigs you are fishing try to Texas rig them on the jighead instead of threading the whole bait

How Do You Guys Stock Your Bank Back Packs?
I use a bass pro shops Xps. I can hold 4 plano 1600 boxes -jigs -crankbaits/topwater -spinnerbaits -squarebills Then in the top opening I have my all my soft plastics In a zip lock gallon bag. My terminal is kept in a small double sided latch box. That goes in my side pocket. I think this year I might experiment with putting my spinnerbaits in a soft sided worm binder and organizing them that way instead of a plano box.

Putting Backing Line On Reel Before Putting Fresh Line On
I am actually changing all my backing to braid. Then using a Albright knot to connect my main line. I can still fish and not worry about breakage if I actually get down to the braid. Most of my setups are short cast. 50/50 braid to mainline. Plus braid makes the reel lighter. But that's not the reasoning behind doin this.

Reel Maintanence
Those videos are just to give ya an idea how reels come apart and to see where oil and grease go. Lake fork guy gives a great demo on disassembly and minor maintenance of baitcasters.

Scents Don't They Just Wash Off?
I usually use it as a scent cover up. If I go straight to the lake after work usually use garlic powder or some other bait fish or craw scent. rub it on my hands so when I touch the lure or jig it doesn't get "contaminated". Hah

Reel Maintanence
There should be a lube port at the bottom of the reel. Use the oil for the worm gear. If you don't want to take the reel back sometimes the reel just takes some time to break in. Don't take the reel side plate off until ya watched a couple reel maintenance videos. I recommend lake fork guy videos to watch. They will take ya through the basics. Fishing Gear Clean Up:

Affordable Jig Rod Set Up?
Don't kno how they compare. Sensitivity is pretty good but I always have my finger on the line to feel bites anyway. I just like how it balances and it's one of the lighter rods I've owned.i also like the power it has. Not too stiff but has good backbone. Great rod for pitching.
