What Reel? If its a 30$ reel? Toss it or take it apart, side cover... If its valuable in cost send it off, if it's a hardcore fave/ sentimental reel send it off... Hard to give a absolute answer...

I use a 7' rod... Brand doesn't matter, you can't get my awesome rod anyway... But I agree with a ML rod for that work too.

If you Dare, throw 20 pd. Yozuri Hybrid, Or.. A high quality FC, soft cover, 50 to 65 braid, I seen guys in Texas using 100 before (braid), alot of rod breaks too... You just gotta try diffrent stuff, one type of line will more than likely stand out to you.

It's my Favorite Line ( Yo ) Raul said it so I don't need to re- iterate .... Pline CXX is a great line too, for a baitcaster, I find the 4 to 6 to be subpar to Yozuri in the same line rating... They,..YO, also have a soft line available , I don't use it.. Been using Hybrid for quite a long time.

I wouldn't be a bit afraid of throwing #4 or #6 Yozuri Hybrid... Of course it may be that a softer line may also be favorable to you. Use a proper Rod.... Also 12, is just not the deal for such light work. I do use 12 Ande on my penn 5500 w/ smoothie drag...

I always, always catch my fish just before sunrise, with maybe 1 1/2 Hr. after... In the mid- summer. Then at night....in central Fl. You had to be on the water well before daylight, and one July morn. I caught 16 Pds. Before the sun came over the Horizon, that bag was huge for July. After sunrise about a hour into the bite was over... The End.. I believe you are fishing the worst time of the day, for this time of Year..
