  1. 10-4 on PE#1.2..
  2. Yup the Hyperdrive is legit. I’ve bought 3 Zillion HD 1000 this year I’ve been thrilled with the performance over my Shimano’s. I’ve had my eye on that Tat 80 also.
  3. Thanks again @bulldog1935 always appreciate your deep knowledge base on these topics.
  4. I used mono in Florida and it was fine, my hero Doug Hannon also used it and he’s documented 100’s of 10# and over FSLMB. My 11.2 came on mono. But I get it, the vegetation can be brutal to stick a big fish and fight it. We didn’t have braid in the 80’s of course. If you like it then that’s perfect, but even on this very thread there are hints of dissatisfaction with braid and FC. Which was part of the reason I started this thread. What backing ? How is your Tat 80 doing?
  5. Very interesting. Appreciate your experience because I’m seriously about to spring on some Japanese braid for a spinning reel myself. Then I’ve got a Zil HD 1000 that I’m about to spool 30# on which gives me a solid 200 yards of line, will be used in the Gulf. Finally my Rays studio BFS wiffle spool arrived and that’s going to be another experiment. PE 0.6-1.0 not sure, but I’m going to spool up with nylon first and get familiar with its characteristics. @bulldog1935 any way to validate it to be an authentic Rays spool? This has a purple bearing and I’m not so sure
  6. In the past few years the #1 complaint I hear from Fisherman & FisherLadies is on Line. It’s about braided lines, fluorocarbon lines, mono and co-polymers. Myself, I’ve been using Yozuri Hybrid for 25 years now. Pline CXX & CX lines. Along w Daiwa Samurai and Sunline Shooter. Has your mind been changed recently toward one type or another and if so why? With me, I can tie my knots in the dark I’ve been using it so long.
  7. Well no matter what, a 7’6” rod will bomb cast an 1 1/2 ounce deep diving Crankbait further than a 7’ rod.. The same is true for a 3/4 oz one also. I've done it too many times on reservoirs in Kentucky and Indiana. 7’6” for ledge cranking (river channels) for 20’ deep divers & 7’ for bank (shallows) = square bills - traps. Wind can be a factor on distance and when it’s blowing 20-25,( ledges- river channels) just throw a Carolina rig instead and a 1/2-3/4 ounce tungsten & that will overcome the wind fairly easily. We won’t discuss boat control in those conditions..
  8. d**n the bumps and bruises, best find that rod & reel! Seriously, glad you’re reasonably well.
  9. Totally depends on the fishery. Also on the tactic being used, what fish you’re targeting and what equipment you’re using.
  10. Well hell, when I want to hear from Catt, I’m gonna just start at the beginning of the Toledo Bend thread.. Sure enough.
  11. Hey buddy : Happy Wife = Happy Life
  12. If that is your budget range on equipment then go for it. I haven’t dealt with budget gear in decades but @Eric 26 has a good understanding of many different lower end pieces of equipment that fishes well above its price range.. Good luck and Happy fishing.
  13. Yea, a lot of sadness this year. I think sometimes, it’s hard to know how to feel. Sleep with peace Catt. ✝️
  14. I’ll wait till you repost, I was really tired when I saw it last night rather late. I will say that reel looked hard used w no maintenance performed at proper intervals. Especially as it pertains to felt washers. Pretty easy to deduce from your excellent photos..
  15. Where did your post against Shimano and lighter reels with plastic gears complete w pictures go? I read it last night. It’s gone did you make a deep edit?
  16. 10-4 I know you’ll be faithful and let us know. I do appreciate your info on the insides of Daiwa’s reels though. I’ve bought 4 Zillions this year..
  17. Yup, done it once. Not only that (gators) but the insects, spiders etc are prehistoric in nature. Plus In the 80’s gators were still protected and as always, there was an element that doesn’t care about following any kind of laws. One morning on Lochloosa we saw 8 dead that had their tails removed. FFW was on site.. Now you have constrictors living in southern Florida. I’m passing on the night in Florida myself. Now in Indiana we will fish the old river channel (Patoka) river with deep diving crank baits.. trolling with the big motor and we would catch the bigger 3-4 pound fish this way. But we’d always loose 4-6 crank baits. It was always enjoyable though. Is that a wooden model?
  18. Keep buying them and keep on complaining..
  19. I know James Hetfield uses Carver equipment even now during pre-show rehearsal with the band, so I knew it was being repaired fairly easily. I think Carver failed as a company. I always wanted Carver equipment. It was much cheaper on the Military base than anywhere. I used Yamaha amp - pre bumped up to ADCOM a couple years later. Still running it, there is a dude in Colorado that could super tune my amp and wasn’t to bad price wise. I don’t know how to work on them but I’ve owned tube receivers before, a Kenwood made in Japan. It died about 8 years ago and was a bedroom unit. Warm sound at low volume.. I think it’s time to get another quality bedroom system. If you have any recommendations please send me a DM..
  20. I have one also and I’ve not fished mine either 😂 too many baits and not enough time!
  21. Not anymore but I use to, and yea gotta hit them w a file.. they work really well though on a hook set.
  22. I guess I know who can afford 17K for a needle now! 🤣🤣🤣
  23. I never spent more than 5 k on my equipment, & how many people on here do you think are spending 17k on a record needle? Your point is well taken though. I’m a CD guy myself 🤷
  24. Very true. It happened in the alcohol industry. I saw the spike during COVID and the fall when the all clear was given.. our warehouses were full and sales plummeted. I saw 6 lines get shut down and 4 of those lines were not going to start back up for at least 1 year. A couple folks in sales etc lost their jobs due to failure to recognize that was going to happen.. We never shut down during Covid, we were deemed “essential” we made sanitizer on one line too.. Crazy days for sure.
