  1. The fight is awesome. They aren't like largemouth either the bigger they are the harder they fight
  2. I really liked my MOJO it was a 7'4 frog or swimbait rod. Can't remember what it was exactly called but I swam a jig on it alot. But ended up breaking it on a fish. To the op I'd take the money you were going to spend on the higher end rods and I would go to an academy and get several h20 express mettle reels and h20 express ethos rods. I've got 3 of them and love every one of there rods. I'd put them ahead of my powells. They'll be all I use as I break or retire my other gear.
  3. Pictures? You can't just leave us hanging
  4. 7 foot crankbait rod 7 foot medium heavy worm/finesse jig rod 7'6 medium heavy like a veritas that's a little more towards a heavy to flip pitch throw a frog or swimbait
  5. That's one of those fast moving river spots. We catch some footballs out of the lakes. I'm 6'4 260 lbs so that doesn't help make them look any bigger
  6. War eagle is my favorite brand of spinner bait I'm split between there buzz bait and the lunker lures. The war eagle has a bigger blade but I've been catching them on a lunker lure since I was a kid. You won't go wrong with the war eagle but take a hard look at the lunker lure buzzbait. Especially the copper blade with a chartreuse skirt.
  7. They grow big down here I know if a possible 9-2 that was caught the other day. I'll see if I can find the picture
  8. They grow big down here I know if a possible 9-2 that was caught the other day. I'll see if I can find the picture
  9. Never? I've fished a few night tournaments and just don't care for it. Caught a bunch of fish at night but unless someone's partner backs out at the last minute I don't see myself fishing at night anymore
  10. I only fish we 2 or 3 different guys. There aren't a whole lot of people I want to spend 8+ hours in a boat with. Usually we split the gas or one of them pulls my boat or I pull theres. If they need to use a rod I'm not using or if I'm wearing them out on a certain bait I'll let them use one of mine. I do like to make them squirm though before letting them get one.
  11. Here's one that weighed 3lbs 1 ounces I caught the other day That's the number I had in my head. Just couldn't take the chance of it dying trying to find a set of scales
  12. I measured it and it was right at 23 inches.
  13. 7lb largemouth on the river 10+ in a private lake Pb spot was 6+ never put it on a set of scales. I've caught a bunch of spots in the 5lb range and this one dwarfed them. Only caught a few smallmouth but I caught one that was 4-3 at Pickwick a few years ago
  14. For a size comparison the spot in the pic was right at 5lbs
  15. I'm talking about the elite series 45,000 in entry fees plus travel hotel rooms food insurance maintenance gear etc
  16. I dont even own a senko never cared for them unless I'm flipping 90%of my fishing is a jig whether it be a swim jig round ball or football jig
  17. It just may not be someone's fishing style. I refuse to throw a shakey head ned rig or a drop shot. If at all possible I have a flipping stick in my hands picking apart cover. The closest I get to a finesse fishing is a 3/8 war eagle finesse jig. Even then it's still a decent size bait
  18. Dont want to be a downer but just keep in mind it cost a minimum of a 100,000 a year to fish at the top level
  19. The nature of skipping docks. Only had to catch 10lbs to win. Lost 3 in the 3-4lb range.
  20. If I'm on them "power fishing" and there is any grass I have 2 rods on the front deck both are 7'6 powell rods spooled with 50 or 65lb braid one has a netbait swim jig with an ultravibe speed craw the other has a kinky beaver on a 3/0 snelled flipping hook with a pegged tungsten weight. I'll hurt you in a tournament if I can get on that type of cover from March till November in alabama
  21. Use a soft plastic frog style hook with the screw in keeper
  22. Throw that Rapala topwater to the right of the frog early or when it's cloudy
  23. I've got one of the big Yamamoto tate sticks that looks like it was dragged behind a truck from fish last year. Love a lunker lure buzzbait and the original scum frog in natural green
