According to the standings I got 3 anglers in the top 50. Kennedy at 5th, Swindle at 17th and Lucas at 41st. I would have killed it if I had KVD in bracket A instead of Christie. Man KVD is on a roll this year. And soon will be the northern swing of the tournaments. Almost guarantee he'll be huge there too.

The last time I picked anglers it was a dismal failure. So I decided to let a monkey pick them. Things were going well then he decided he needed a raise, then failed a drug test and took 2 months off for maternity leave. All on the same day. I'd fire him but he could sue for wrongful termination. So I just made the picks myself. I got Christie, Swindle, Herren, Kennedy and Lucas. So far I got 3 in the top 15 and two in the 60's.

Great video. I think everybody who fishes runs into this problem no matter what you fish for. I was surprised how little time they give to an area, most saying 30 to 45 minutes. But as some of the pros have expressed, its about a gut feeling. With conditions changing it has to add even more problems to that decision. BTW Glenn, the town name is pronounced MAW-HAN-OY. No need to apologize, most people not from my area can't pronounce it either.

Amazing but I think some of those species are almost impossible to differentiate between. Some seem almost identical if you don't put them side by side. I know some people have a hard time telling the difference between largemouth and spotted bass if they don't have one of each to reference from. Having never caught a spotted bass I can't say for sure that I would be able to tell the difference.

Speaking for myself (and many others), Laugh loud and often..... will cover the sound of your farts.

I don't really eat them that much but in our area there is a place called "Jimmy's". They smother their dogs in chili, onions, and sauerkraut. One dog is a meal.

Talk about a full day of fun. That is too cool.

Don't forget to include him as a dependent on your taxes.

At a local state park I was wading in the water fishing and saw a small snake swimming towards me close to the bank. It passed by me without even noticing me. I saw a lady walking toward the bank ahead of the snake so I hollered up to her to tell her there was a snake in the water. Her reply was "Another snake. That's it. I'm leaving. That's the 3rd snake I've seen." Must have been one of those people that thinks the outdoors shouldn't have all the icky things in it.

Hearing this story makes me feel torn. As a Gravitationally-Challenged American I'm offended by this story. How dare that man waste a perfectly good chicken nugget to catch that fish. But as an angler I'm thinking maybe I'll get a 10 piece and head out to the lake and give them a shot. Maybe I should get a 20 piece just in case I eat more than the bass.

If that is a Heddon lure they don't sell it anymore. My bad, they do still sell it. Its a Pop'n Image Jr.

I like Strike King KVD 1.5 (dives to 3 ft) or Norman's Deep Baby N (dives 6-8 ft) for shallow water. As far as color, in the Northeast alewife, perch, crawfish and blue gill are the main forage species so I would start there.

My suggestion to the OP is if you want to try new lures buy only one pack (if its soft plastics) or buy used at a flea market (if its hard baits). That way you get to try new stuff without a large expense. You have an advantage to me when I started bass fishing. You have the internet. You can order things at 2 a.m. in your pajamas. So if you run out of something you can get it pretty easy. Go slow with buying new baits. Read reviews and ask yourself if you have a lure now that will do the same thing. We all have made questionable purchases (I think there is another thread about that) so don't feel to bad about buying junk. It happens. If you do buy a lure that is cr@9 sell it online quick before anybody else finds out its lousy. And have fun. That's what fishing is about.

Not sure if the broken-billed lure will work. Guess you should give it a try. I keep a wacky rig ready for a follow up just in case I miss a top water bite. Its a good strategy. I haven't seen bass on beds in the lake I fish but that doesn't mean there are not going to be bass on beds at the lake you are going to fish. Most of the bites I've been getting are on deep rocks with a 1/4 ounce football head and a twin-tailed grub (Hula grub).

Can't fool me. That was just one game. I'd like to see the Celts in it but I don't play "make believe".
