Switch Baits or Change Area-how to determine which is the problem
the fish is an opportunist, as well as territorial. just like our two dogs. the one dog hates hot dog weenies but will fight the other one to the death over one if they’re in close proximity. they also like to lay in the sun, investigate noises, and chase off intruders. animals!

A retailer that shan't be named...
i’ve bought alot of stuff from them (no rods) and have never once had an issue. they should make it right. i refuse to buy boots, shoes, and/or fishing rods online from anyone.

Medium Heavy Rod Question...
it will help a little if you have the right line size, but accuracy tends to suffer with the longer rods. i usually value line size and/or reel choice over rod length when throwing lighter stuff

what's worse?
it’s no secret that i’m a texas rig guy and losing fish, once hooked up, doesn’t happen all that much. but hook set break offs, especially with the fluoro, became a problem until i found the right combination of line size and knot, for me (emphasis on the “for me”). it was maddening! now i don’t intend to turn this into a discussion on fluoro vs mono. they both have their positives and i caught plenty of fish on mono down through the years, but i love the fluoro for what i do. carry on

Changes coming to Lake Norman
one of Lake Normans “hot holes” (warm water discharges) will become a thing of the past when Marshall Steam Plant ends operations due to the environmental issues concerning coal ash. this action may not take place for another ten to twenty years or more, but it’s coming. this will definitely affect wintertime fishing in the middle portion of the lake just south of the hwy 150 bridge. that will leave only the warm water discharge located at the McGuire Nuclear Power Plant, at the southern end of the lake at Cowans Ford Dam.

Hoping I can get back on the water in full force come spring
i picked up some kind of virus about two years ago which led to an inner ear infection. it took a while to get over that and i ended up with permanent partial hearing loss as a result. on top of that, i came down with what they called post viral fatigue which really laid me out. that lasted almost two months and scared me to death. i hope you get well soon and regain some normalcy in your life. think positive.
