  1. Maybe it is waterproof then! ;D
  2. BPS also has a 3pc extreme rods in casting and spinning...they go on sale from time to time for about $70? They're decent
  3. I use about 4-5ft of fluoro leader tied on with an Improved albright (alberto knot)
  4. For moving topwater baits like buzzbaits or a rage shad you can use anything really. For twitching topwaters, or ones with a pause I'd choose mono.
  5. Nope not waterproof at all I don't think, it'll withstand spray and light rain probably but not being totally submerged
  6. I have a humminbird piranhamax I can't remember the model number off the top of my head but it's the one with the tri-beam, works well when looking at the bottom. I still need to learn to read the thing though. I've heard color screens can drain batteries pretty fast so I kept away from those.
  7. Thanks ;D I'll give it a go sometime soon in the kayak
  8. Heya Sam, This Lake?
  9. Ahh I see, yea in the first pic you can see the mouth, I've caught a hand full of shad with some of those attached
  10. Heya guys, I'll be on the water on sun 4/26 from 3-dark on the James for shad right around the 95 bridge if anyone's interested! Also will be there on Friday at around 5pm (hopefully) til dark See ya there!
  11. No issues. 8-) I see, so if I had a reel where everytime I were to set the hook, the reel would engage a little even when I locked the drag down, I could safely say there's something wrong with the drag on that reel? You could also be setting the hook too hard. Yea, that could be it also, I usually fish from a kayak so there's not much room for the "geronimo" hookset, just a quick sharp hookset done mainly with my arms and little waist, so I didn't think that was the problem. Maybe I'll try setting it lighter!

  13. Gotta think man, this was 1932, not 2002. There was a Great Depression going on and everyone done all they could to put food on the table. I don't like eating bass too often, but if Im having a hard time putting food on the table, and I catch any fish, much less a 22lb bass that will feed a few stomachs, its gonna end up on the table. Never thought of that, it's a good point, I would have eaten it too...come to mention it...looking at the times I might have to eat a world record too!
  14. With 3-4lbs of drag does your drag engage when you're setting the hook?
  15. American eels! that second pic is nice, got some eel lovin' in there...I thought it was a pair of pliers at first.
  16. Yea, I find it amazing how they can get past the Belle Isle and pony pastures area
  17. Yea, they'll definitely still be active this coming weekend
  18. Wanna hit the James up for the Shad Run this weekend (4/25) or possibly swift creek res?
  19. Nice fish! good size on that last one =)
  20. Awesome boat =D Gotta love being on the water for the first time! Lemme know the next time you head out to swift creek res, I don't get to fish it often enough!
  21. I'm definitely interested! We do have some for Northern VA, but I don't think I've ever met any fellow fisherman in richmond before besides Sam
  22. Would any richmonders happen to know of a place to launch a yak for some decent sized smallmouth in the Upper James? Been looking to hit up the smallies before I graduate! Thanks
  23. Ain't that the truth! been looking everywhere! as for the topic, I've made a few orders from BPS and never had a problem, the only thing I hate is their ridiculous shipping charges
  24. I like using the spro ones, I haven't had much luck with the soft plastic types as they snag on the weeds frequently for me. They seem to love getting stuck in that "indent" part of the pads that I have in my area. The spro kinda floats over them.
  25. Wow, that's an idea...If it came in a stick, kinda like a chapstick consistency I'd buy that in a heartbeat. get on it bobby!
