  1. Well the quantum reels work fishing is always up to the guy holding the rod im sure a reel will hold up to a day of fish and even if it breaks he has 8 other on the boat. When the money and points are on the line as it is in the Elite series every second counts for these pros. When success is vital, whether it be to make a sponsor happy (which most sponsors like for you to do well. Who wants to buy a product endorsed by a nobody) or to fish your way into the next year's classic, time is of the essence. I can't imagine these guys fishing with something that isn't solid. Maybe the replace them after each tournament but I do believe that for the one's who stick around and are in the spotlight-they fish with products that help to get them there.
  2. If your career weighed on your performance of FISHING...why would you fish with something that would not give you the best chances of fishing at your highest ability. I have never owned a Quantum. BUT...I have noticed that the majority of Pros on the circuit all fish with gear most members of the board deem "junk". Your top three pro staffs would be 1. Quantum 2. Pure Fishing 3. Bass Pro I understand using lower modulus rods for tournaments, seeing how brittle the high end rods can be. Nobody wants to miss a paycheck because a rod broke on a hook set. Not sure about the rods though. Maybe we're all just too picky :-?
  3. New RageTail Anaconda+10"+Junebug color+C Rig=HUGE success 8-)
  4. Big O- I saw Chris back at the Elite on KY Lake and he gave me one of the Anacondas and one of the Space Monkeys. AWESOME. I really love the Anaconda Been keepin my mouth shut about um though :-X
  5. I have a couple of the 150H and one 153H7. They are both great reels and very smooth. If you want to get one at ebay price they are a steal however I also recommend upgrading to the HSTA.
  6. I own a Cara and an Avid. Mine don't quite match so my reports might not be that adequate. My Cara is a 7' H casting. I typically use it for jigs, carolina rigs, and pitching. I love this rod. It is very sensitive. It's an older version and I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the newer T7's. They have an even better/lighter feel to them. My Avid is a 7'M casting. I use it mainly for fishing light texas rigs, topwaters, and flukes. I just got this rod this past winter. It's a very sensitive rod. Hard to give an even comparison between it and the Cara...I use the Cara for much more bottom contacting lures and have primarily used the Avid for flukes and topwaters. However, I have been very pleased with the feel of light t-rigs. Overall-there's just something that I don't like about the Avid :-/ I can't quite figure it out. It's light and responsive and plenty of feel. Just doesn't feel "right" to me. Both are great rods. My personal choice is my Cara however.
  7. If the fish are hungry they'll eat a jig. Size does (not) matter. As for trailers, one of my favorites over the years, and one you should have in your bag of plastics for t-rigging, are brush hogs. Mike McClelland used them at the KY Lake event with great success.
  8. I'm going to be making some 3/4 oz football jigs and I want these to be big and bulky. I'll be using silicon skirt layers and I was wondering about how many strands I could fit under a collar safely? I know if I tied them I could fit more but I like to be able to switch between skirt colors and plastic grubs and things. Thanks guys
  9. I attended all day saturday and have some pics to put up from in the morning and at weigh in. CJ- I heard Van Dam say that morning that his biggest fish came off a spoon. Whether or not that's true..only the camera man will know
  10. Yea I've been using the 6'6 TD-S glass rod for my shallow and med cranks. That rod is the reason I wanted to stay with glass. I wish the reel seat on those rods weren't exclusive to Daiwa. I love the feel of them.
  11. Haha thanks guys. I've looked at it and as long as it functions well I can live with the looks. I knew the rod would be heavier but I think that the performance of glass wins in that trade off. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on one. I think that may be what I'm looking for.
  12. I agree fivebass. I use a glass rod for the rest of my cranking and I'd like to stay with one. That's why I was originally leaning towards the Dobyns and Powell. I was worried about the Fritts model because of the telescopic length and what appears to be a lack of blank-through reel seat but after hearing what you have to say I think I'm going to take your word. Is the model you're referring to the E-Glass DF76?
  13. Hey 5BL, how is feeling bottom contact with that rod?
  14. Al that design is great to remove sideplay in the spool. However the practicality of the design is what's flawed. The frame makes it near impossible to adjust the brake settings without a special tool or removing the entire spool. They have tried to solve many of the problems anglers have with reels already. While doing so they seem to have forgot/overlooked many things anglers love about reels.
  15. Micro-what is length of the handle on the Fenwick? I remembered seeing that you had one and was hoping you would post. I imagine you plan on using the new Revo Winch as do I.
  16. It does fit the bill. How is it as far as keeping fish buttoned. I have been really interested in the Dobyns and the Powell because they are both glass. I noticed that American Rodsmiths has A David Fritt's rod in e-glass but it's a telescoping rod (not interested). 2 Tennessee miles is about the distance you need when trying to reach the ledges and humps here on Kentucky Lake.
  17. Burley thanks for the link. That's a great looking rod. Any other info on the Dobyns rod or the rest would be greatly appreciated.
  18. "Some folk built like this, some folk built like that But the way I'm built, you shouldn't call me fat Because I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed But I got everything all the good girls need" One of my favorite songs of all time ;D
  19. Burley what model is that you're trying?
  20. Burley I looked on American Rodsmith's website but could not find that particular model. Which series is it from? And RW- I took a look at the Skeet stick but I am really looking more for a 7'6" rod.
  21. Their are three major companies. http://www.prowearone.com/ http://www.geminisportmarketing.com/ http://www.animalpaintball.com/ Check um out. All of these companies will work with you and help you find what you want. If you decide to get one post a picture on here for us to see what ya come up with
  22. I have been looking for a rod to handle my deep cranking (14ft+) needs. I thought I had the issue settled when I ordered a G. Loomis CBR906. However, after testing the rod this past weekend I think I need to keep looking. The handle of the Loomis is just too short for my likings. So...here are some of my new choices. Dobyns 765CB Glass, the Powell 765CB/SBR, St. Croix Legend Tournament Magnum Cranker and the Fenwick Elite Tech 7'3" Crankshaft. If anyone has any input on how these rods perform or can give me some info on handle length I would greatly appreciate it.
  23. Man you are unbelievable. If you didn't have pictures I would not believe you could catch fish like that consistently let alone that many in the same year in our area. As always my hat is off to you.

    Marty- Awesome baits. Great craftmanship
  25. I think both tactics you mentioned should work well. Flukes in baby bass color work well for me from the start of the spawn and well into post spawn. Good luck!
