Fishing Traps
Thanks Chris and everyone, I'm confident my trap will get me a few bites tommorow or at least locate me some fish. The color im gonig with is Red Crawdad by Bill Lewis, and i have a #2 Gammy on the front and a #4 on the back. The #2 might be a bit too big but I dont want any lost fish in this tourney I need every fish in the boat. I put a red one on the front to create a bleeding effect, recommended by Marty Stone. Don't know if it helps or not but we will see.

Fishing Traps
I haven't fished with traps much, as this is only my first year of competative and serious fishing. This Saturday I have a tournament coming up where traps I heard produce extremely well in the lake and a lot of the locals sware by them. The lake I will be fishing has a lot of bridges and some of my focus will be there with the trap. Im guessing the sound maybe bouncing off the hard walls might trigger reaction strikes? I'm not too sure but my question is... When im fishing a trap do I want my rod tip high or low? And when fishing it on casting gear I know it will pendulum back to me so should i let a little line out after the cast? From what I was told there is a bit of depth near the bridges, around 10-12 feet so I might have to get it down there. any help greatly appreciated -mike p.s. A trap isn't necessarily something I would generally throw, I still think it might be a bit too early, but a lot of reports and talk about the lake I hear the word trap a lot, and that goes from spring to around winter transition...

Weird senko story
I had this happen to me this spring when I was using a fat ika on one of my favorite lakes. But I actually caught the bass and brought it out of the water and about 45 minutes later caught the exact same fish again. Gotta love prespawn.

Flouro or YZ Hybrid
Like RW said 12# YZ H..will do the job. If your worried about visibility I would go with the Lo-vis green color they have. -wm

favorite nite fishing spinnerbait
Avid, IMO I would go with a double colorado and the biggest sizes you can get away with. This will give you maximum vibration and the fish will find it easier, especially in those muddy florida waters. As for the skirt I would go with black/blue or black/red. And don't forget to add a trailer to bulk your bait up, and also a trailer hook. -wm

Deps Buzzjet
I was fishing with a friend who told me he used the Depps Buzzjet during the pre-spawn and said he couldn't miss wherever he went with it. Its worth a try, im actually thinking about buying one myself. The bass have probably never seen it before. -wm

Owner Twistlock Frog Hooks
Anyone out there tried these yet? Seems pretty convenient to not have the frog sliding down the hook cast after cast. If you have, how is the hookup ratio and are you satisfied with the product. -wm

Gulp vs. powerbait
Original Powerbait > Gulp! You don't need 400x scent dispersion, sight is the main hunting sense for bass anyways. The only advantage i see in Gulp! is bass maybe holding on a tad longer, but im sure your a good fisherman right? You know when to set the hook Tight Lines -wm

Mepps Spinners
Inline spinners are a very overlooked bait that most serious bass fisherman probably dont use. I would use them on tough days, where fish aren't biting the more "popular" lures. Also I like using them deep as a jigging spoon, it gives off some vibration the fish haven't felt down there before, burning them over grass flats is also a deadly tactic. Throw one on next time you go out and prove it to yourself.

Shimano Curados, 101 and 201?
Was out fishing with a friend about 2 weeks ago and every reel he owned was a curado. He said the 101's were better for casting light stuff like crankbaits and jerkbaits etc.... And he said he 201;s are better for swimbaits spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.... What I noticed about the 101's was that they are a lot smaller so it makes sense that it was easier to cast the lighter baitd and it also holds less line he told me. So my question is how come abu garcia for example dosent have reels like this? And do you think there is a difference from casting for example cranks with the 101 than the 201? Thanks -wm P.S. I think im going to stick with shimano for life. But I might give Abu Garcia a try

Thanks Catt and George. Some great info.

most underrated lures/baits
I would have to go with a jigging spoon hands down. I cant remember the last time I saw or heard somebody talking about using a spoon for bass.

jerkbait?????
fishing man and T-rig The jerkbait is a very powerful weapon if applied right to the conditions. This is one of my favorite fall and early springtime baits. When bass are feeding on baitfish the LC Pointer and Rapala X-Rap are about as close as you can get to a match the hatch situation. You can twitch them erratically when bass are chasing or when bass are inactive a twitch twitch pause retrieve will provoke strikes in colder water. When stopped the bait sits stable in the water and most of the times this is when the strike will occur. This has become one of my favorite baits and I have a lot of confidence. P.s If you go to youtube and type in rapala, they have a video of the X-rap, how to work it and what it looks like underwater with pros showing. Hope this helps. -whitemike

Dean Rojas Spro Frogs...
I wouldn't worry too much about the sides, I would be more concerned with the bottom of the frog, because this is what bass see while looking up from the bottom of the water. Maybe a matching color waterproof marker would work? Im sure you can figure out a way to get the color back on. Plus a couple bass in the 2-3 pound range is definately a fair trade for a peeled off side of a body wouldn't you say?

Situations for cranks??
Tight wobbles are best suited for colder water or inactive fish. You can fish a crankbait almost any time of the year if you know what you are doing. people like Rick Clunn and David Fritts are amongst the best crankbait fisherman in the world, and they have the skill it takes to crank in almost any situation. And they will, if the body of water they are fishing allows it. Im no cranking expert, but i hope this helps. There are much better crankbait fisherman on this forum than me, im sure they will be here soon to give some advice. good luck -wm
