  1. For 1/8oz shaky heads I use my DS rod which is a St. Croix LTBC69MLXF. For anything bigger I use a AVC68MXF. These are both casting rods, my spinning rod is a LTBS68MXF that I use with 8lb Invizx but I use it mainly for split shotting and sluggos. I just don't like fishing shaky heads on spinning tackle but I'm sure it would fit the bill.
  2. The other way around. Loomis tend to have a faster action than St. Croix.
  3. All time favorite is a walking style topwater (Spittin' Image, Super Spook, Sammy) Most productive this year would have to be deep cranks. If you would have asked me three years ago, it would have been a DS worm.
  4. $2.99 at BPS. For the price you can't beat em. The serrated edges hold the line in place while your cutting.
  5. Welcome aboard. There are some REAL good sticks that have come from your neck of the woods. We are looking forward to it as well
  6. Also keep in mind that it will be easier on you if your rod and reel are well balanced. Sometimes you have to add weight to achive this but it will feel lighter.
  7. I had one of the KVD reels that were based on the 600 body style and it was a good little reel. But I just can't get over how butt ugly this thing is.
  8. Nice! That would be so cool to catch a Largemouth and a Peacock out of the same body of water.
  9. Nice LBH. Now that is actually strange.
  10. What gets me is that they say ol Swindle caught every fish in the tank after they had ignored other LC cranks. What about other jerks? Who is to say that he wouldn't have caught every fish in the tank on a regular pointer? What it boils down to for me is you are paying five extra bucks for a different pattern. Is is worth it? For some, sure. I've seen guys spend three times what a lure is worth just because it had a "sexy shad" pattern. But I don't think I'll be buying one any time soon.
  11. Nice! That bait was designed by one of the hard swimbait founders. I have also caught a lot of nice fish on Z-plugs which don't look like much but the fish just love em.
  12. I end up in that situation with my girlfriend all the time But like Sam said, you did a good thing.
  13. I like to fish them wacky but mainly because there is more resistance there when I pull on it. But if I am tossing into cover, I Texas rig it. I wacky rig with the "weedless" wide gap finesse hooks but the weed guard just keeps some grass off, but that's about it.
  14. Honestly, I don't see the big deal about backplay. I remember using baitcasters before they all had one way bearings and they worked just fine. The backplay never caused a single problem with how I was able to fish.
  15. They will all work on a carolina rig. But if I had to choose one it would be these, in the six inch version.
  16. All the negatives I had about Fluorocarbon Vanished when I took Fourbizzle's advice and switched to Seguar InvisX. Well all the negatives except for the price Another plus is that if you are worming or jiging in deeper water and making longer casts, you'll have a more direct link to your bait. If you use mono, your line doesn't go straight to your bait. It makes a bend which can take away from sensitivity and hooksets.
  17. True, I just know that when I was a kid I had a red Abu Garcia spincaster and a gold Daiwa spincaster. Both of those were upgrades from the 33 I started out with. The Drags were smoother, there was less play in the reel, and I encountered less line twist. But that was twenty years ago. The only thing I could tell you about the spincasters offered today is that the Daiwa Silver cast has a line pin that rotates. But the other may have that as well, I don't know.
  18. I know that Daiwa and Abu Garcia both offer quality spincasters. You may want to look into them. I don't know anything about the Omega.
  19. True True. To be honest I have checked a lot of other "frog" rods (Powell, Daiwa, Loomis) and most I of the ones I seen haven't impressed me. But, I haven't held the one you have. my mistake. :-[ I was just thinking that I wouldn't want to use the heavy Avid series rod.
  20. Well I have the BCR852 which is pretty similar but just a little longer. If the BCR802 is anything like the one I have you'll love it. I caught fish with it on Senkos, spinnerbaits, spoons, and jigs so far and I've been impressed. I am not sold on the guides yet. I say treat yourself!! You may also want to check out the St. Croix EC68MXF. My Girlfriend perfered that over the Loomis. If you can, check them both out in person. You can't go wrong with either one.
  21. I'm the same way. With the expection of a couple of my reels that have very shallow spools (TD-S 105, Morrum UM Forrells) I remove half the line off the spool and then tie the new line to the old. It's normally between 75-100 yards. This saves time and money when respooling.
  22. Just don't chum it beacuse it doesn't digest and smaller fish can't pass it. A fish with a stomach full of corn will starve to death.
  23. I've never had the chance to fish those BIG browns that they have on the White but I caught a 6lber on the Merced River in Yosemite on a F-7 Rapala, went back out the next night and caught two nice rainbows. I'm sure you you'll be able to catch some at night out your way.
  24. I like round rubber because it sticks out when you trim is short. Kind of like deer hair does. If I am leaving the skirt at full length, then I don't care one way or the other. A good jig maker ties the rubber on with wire instead of using an o-ring.
  25. ;D ;D ;D BTW, $8 for a six pack is cheap for this style of bait.
