  1. I would like to believe that Swindle will come away from this a humble and considerate man. ;D ;D Yeah, right. He has always thought he was above the law and he could get by with anything if only he made the appropriate wise crack to explain himself. I say good riddance. He is the most overrated fisherman on the BASS tour simply because he's a big jerk and makes for good TV. As a side note: I bet Zell slept really well last night with a big smile on his face.
  2. Frogg Toggs. Cheap. Light. Effective.
  3. From my experience, they start out of tune and pretty much stay that way no matter how much I mess with them.
  4. If you're saying you can catch an equal number of fish on any bait, then definitely topwater. But if the fish are only hitting everything equally well, then one can certainly catch more fish by covering more water. In the latter case, I definitely choose a lipless crank. I can cover more water with these than any other bait.
  5. I'm going to take a lot of heat for this, but I think the tournament anglers are better by far than the trophy hunters. They trophy guys are one trick ponies. I think the two are similar to long drive golf competitors vs. PGA golfers or maybe a guy who can consistantly shoot basketballs from the half court line vs. an NBA superstar, maybe even an NFL kicker vs. an NFL QB. I think it would be awesome to possess any of these skills, but I'll choose PGA, NBA and QB respectively. Not that I wouldn't trade places with either class of angler, but if you are asking who is the better bass fisherman, there is no comparison. IMO, of course.
  6. First, as has been said, ALWAYS use a trailer hook. Secondly, I sometimes have luck removing the skirt and replacing it with a fluke or other suitable soft plastic. It gives pressured fish something different to look at and occasionally it works.

I have that exact lure. I have caught one LM and a channel cat. I have not been very impressed. I do have several of the Stacy King jerkbaits and have had some phenomenal days with them. You can frequently pick those up for 10.99 at BPS. Give them a try.
  8. It has some good basic knowledge. If you just keep it, they will continue pestering you for the money for a few months and eventually give up. As a bonus, they will no longer send you unsolicited gifts
  9. 5" Senko Green Pumpkin 4/0 EWG All day, every day. (If I had to use just one, that is )
  10. Husky Jerk! Any suspending jerkbait in a similar size and pattern will likely do the trick. Allow the bait to pause and the fish will likely hit it. Vary the time you let it pause until you find what works.
  11. Does the Biosonix manuacturer have a patent on the concept of playing baitfish sounds underwater? I don't think that is a patentable. Why don't we see others manufacturing simpler and less costly units? I believe that a simple underwater speaker and a playback device (i.e. mp3 player, cassette player, cd player) would do the trick without all the complicated electronic sampling schemes offered on the BSX.
  12. I think the issue is very pertinent to some of our younger members, but if you all have seen my photo, I don't think I have much to worry about. In my younger days, I would have welcomed a comely young female basser stalker, but now I'm just too tired. An exciting adventure like that would just take time away from fishing.
  13. The chatterbait has become my number one search lure. I primarily use it just like I would a spinnerbait, but it can also be fished like a jig. In short, you can fish it fast or slow, steady or erratic and fish it at any depth. My best Chatterbait fish thus far has been a 6 lb 2 oz largemouth I caught a few weeks ago in cold (41 degrees), muddy water using a slow, steady retrieve. Incidently, that fish was my best for '06 so far.
  14. I think I'd like to get a deal on those. The Rattl'n Vibe is my favorite lipless. In cold water, I pretty much stick to lipless CBs, jigs, plastics and jerkbaits. So yeah, I think they should work. BTW, don't hesitate to burn it! In my experience, lipless CBs are the exception to the rule slower in winter.
  15. I refer to lottery tickets as a tax on stupidity. It is a progressive tax. The stupider one is, the more money the government collects. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I confess, however, that I occasionally succumb to the temptation, but vary rarely.

Bassnut has a point. Every time we fill up our tanks we are financing terrorists. It's a really sick joke if you think about it. I can avoid Citgo because they own the retail stations as well as the oil fields. At least if I buy my gas somewhere else, I can remain blissfully ignorant of where the money goes.

I think about this every time they mention the "Mad Venezuelan" on the news. I'm not sure what to do about it, but I guarantee Citgo gets none of my business despite their BASS sponsorship. I just hope the White House maintains its present position and refuses to comment on the speech indefinitely. I get mad that the press treats Chavez and Ahmadinejad as equals to President Bush as if there is some kind of moral equivalency or that they are equals in world stature. Ridiculous! Compare the coverage of the Chavez speech with that of Premier Krushchev and the shoe incident in 1960. Back then, the press had a sense of right and wrong as well as patriotism. I don't care what anyone says. Things were better back then (and I was born in 1970).

  19. OK then. Thats makes perfect sense now. Erosion! I never thought of that. Thanks for the information.
  20. It's called Clear Lake and I believe it's near Fort Wayne because that's where my freind lives. Your suggestion certainly seems more logical than fishing the side away from the windy bank. I just assumed Garnet misstated what he meant.
  21. The map is working now. Click on the photo in the post to enlarge it. Thanks.
  22. I am heading up to northern IN this weekend to fish for smallies with my buddy for the first time. I have attached a map of the lake and I would appreciate any advice on location, lure selection and presentation. The water is clear to 12 ft, but I have no info on water temp. I would guess it is in the 70's. Thanks in advance.
  23. Hey everybody! Jake's been fishing with my Father-in-law ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  24. I don't know what it was, but a circle hook might provide the answer. If a fish pulls hard on a circle, he's caught if he gets it in his mouth.
  25. I always try to see if the topwater bite is happening before I move on to something else. Any time. Any conditions. It's just so much fun. Wheeeeeeee!
