  1. Budget is a big factor in your question. First off, I use straight braid, 30 lb, no leader, love the sensitivity and in all honesty never even thought of switching that up. Rod wise...........when I first got back into this bass fishing thing hardcore I used a St. Croix MH/Fast Mojo Bass and loved it........but then I got a AvidX and thought Wow!, then I got a MegaBass Levante Braillist and thought, this is where it's at! Wanted another Levante Braillist but they stopped production so I bit the bullet and spent the $$$ on an Orochi XX Braillist. Whole new world. One year later I own 5 Orochi XX's, two are Braillists!
  2. Isn't 15 lb about the thickness of thread?? LOL Seriously I use KVD line conditioner, a few sprays as I'm spooling the reel. Either way after it gets wet a couple times it's lose it's stiffness pretty quick.
  3. Last year I wasn't prepared to throw a buzzbait on an outing but when I got on the water decided to throw one. The only rod that didn't have anything tied on was my H/Fast with 50 lb Sufix so that's what it went on. I have to say I liked that set up for sure. With the braid and the heavier rod the bass pretty much set the hook themselves.
  4. Mine is about 4 feet or so. When it gets under 2 feet I cut it off and tie on a new one.
  5. I don't know your budget but I'd think a MH/Fast would work. Lighter may create issues setting the hook on a jig. I use a MegaBass Diablo Spec R for deep cranks, it would work with jigs. It isn't cheap though.
  6. I use 30 pound braid for everything except cranks and jerkbaits. For those i use 20 lb braid. I don't have any issues using it. I'm going to add that I use my crankbait rods for small 1/4 oz and smaller swimbait heads too. But that has more to do with casting with the rod than the line size.
  7. I was going to go to Rock Run in my kayak. I either do great or horrible there. I ended up not going because I figured it would be packed. A buddy did go. He said the police were there the day the parking lot opened in order to direct traffic because it was so packed. I'll wait a few more weeks. Not only are people itching to fish, a lot of people have more time on their hands to fish until they can go back to work.
  8. There's a quarry by me that I go to all the time. Unless you know it's there you could drive within 1/2 mile your entire life and never realize it. I've caught a lot of 5-6 pound bass out of it over the years. Within the past two years YouTube fisherman have made a few videos fishing there. I used to be able to go there and maybe see one other person fishing, on a busy day two. Now.....................there are times you have to wait to launch or come back in. A weekend is not even worth the effort.
  9. Why would you cut it loose??? Pull it up by hand. I have the short one.
  10. I've had that happen a couple of times, but not that soon. Pull all the anchor line out. Stick your finger in the hole the line comes out of and put tension on the spindle inside with your finger. Wind the handle until it tightens up. I've had to do it twice in two years. Hopefully this helps you.
  11. I was just out on a weedy lake this morning. I installed the weed guard on it which helps. It does slow it down a bit.
  12. For me..... I have two M/Moderates for mid cranks to squarebills, poppers, and small and medium walking baits Two MH/Fast for jigs, pastics Two H/Fast for frogs, punching, big swimbaits, and find I like them for buzzbaits One MH/Fast for everything else such as spinnerbaits, deep cranks, big walking baits, etc
  13. I generally bring a couple of protein bars, a bag of cashews, a bunch of water.
  14. And ends up white! LOL
  15. Well, I'm semi retired. In summers I fish 5-6 days a week. I fished 6 hours this morning, and can't wait to get back out! LOL
  16. For ME, emphasized ME, Texas rig for numbers Jig for size
  17. Here is a picture of the battery on the crate and another of the rudder in the up postion, the Bixby is not attached but it would be on the bottom of the rudder. You can also see the rudder deployment rope, it comes from the top of the rudder then through two pulleys and up to the side of my seat.
  18. I have a Bixby on my Bonafide and can get up to the mid 4's. I've never been close to using up a battery charge. My big test will be in July when I take it up to a big lake that I want to get to the other side of.
  19. I didn't like the Perfect Pitch for jigs. Felt a bit heavy and not as sensitive as I'd like. Great frog rod though. I use the Braillist for jigs and love it.
  20. My Atak 120 was the best paddling kayak I ever owned. I bet that thing flies with the Torqeedo.
  21. My Megabass Orochi XX Swingfire with my Daiwa Tatula Elite, $540 total.
  22. Sometimes a backlash goes deeper than you think too. If you've backlashed that reel at some point. I've dug out some nasty ones and for the life of me couldn't figure out how it got that deep into the spool. LOL
  23. MegaBass Orochi XX with Tatula SV TW. Although I recently bought a Spec R I'm liking as well.
  24. Well if I have it's been a long, long time. When I make a bad cast it's a birds nest to end all birds nests! When I get hung up bad I pull from the line, not the rod. Minor hang ups are fine. Being in a kayak a lot of my hang ups I can paddle to the other side or just above it and a few shakes and it's free. I can say I have caught big bass, with big hooks, and a big hook set and the next cast was just fine. Not this, "A nice hard hook set on a big fish with braid and you will have dig in and it will stop in the spool at the point where you set the hook on the next cast" Full discolosure..I have a deal with every single company that produces braid, and for every spool of braid under 50 lbs they sell I get 5 cents.. Haha Jk
  25. I have summers off and fish 5-6 days a week and do well enough. Both the fish were on braid. Hopefully I didn't jinx myself. LOL
