  1. I have used them for around 10 years. Fell out of the boat once. It went off immediately. I had a bad habit of not wearing a vest before I started using the self inflating. Now I always have one on if I am in the boat. Cabelas have type II self inflating on sale for $79.99 in the stores. not sure if the sale is online.
  2. I have thrown outdated bobbins in a glass of water to test them. the tablet dissolves almost immediately.
  3. They are supposed to take a small amount of water pressure to dissolve the tablet. They are usually designed to go off in 4 inches of water. Over time the bobbin gets weathered. that is why it should be replaced every three years.
  4. If you like the Bass Pro pro qualifier II baitcasting reel, Cabelas has them on sale for $49.99. That was in the Kansas City store. Not sure if it is nationwide. there were a bunch of them on display. I own one. they are decent reels. feel similar to my gen 4 revo SX.
  5. Self inflating vests have a bobbin with a material that dissolves in liquid to deploy. the white portion in the photo below is what dissolves. the bobbin is usually protected from rain, but will deploy if it gets wet. It has to be rearmed when it goes off. It costs anywhere from $20.00 to $40.00 for the rearming kit. Depending on the vest.
  6. I would take them all out and start bouncing baits down your driveway. It won't take long to figure out which one skips the best. the Tatula SV is not the only reel that works. It is just the one that works the best for me. I occasionally skip with a gen4 revo sx. I have to crank the brakes up when I use this reel.
  7. Mine too. I have caught a lot of fish on clown rogues over the years. I always wondered how it looks to a bass. Red is supposed to be one of the first colors to disappear underwater.
  8. It will work. But casting distance will suffer. Not sure what bothers you about the line splice knot. Only reels I own that don't have a line splice are new. I never empty a reel to add new line. Plus if you use braid it will lay better with a mono backing.
  9. if nothing else, the lakes should all be full. the power plants are always available if you get the itch.
  10. You don't have to use big baits to catch big bass. To me location is more important. I do use large swimbaits occasionally, but Looking back at my fishing log... My biggest bass was on a super fluke. My second largest bass was on a shakyhead. My third largest bass was on a spinnerbait.
  11. It depends on whose boat you are fishing from. Unfortunately you have to adjust accordingly. I have fished a lot of tournaments from the front and back of the boat. If the boater is methodical at covering water, you will be fishing used water. To me that usually means downsizing and finesse. I have nearly always had better luck from the back with finesse. In contrast, if it was my boat, I rarely ever finesse fished. In regards to the Co angler horror stories, I have had very few issues. the worst thing I have dealt with is a boater that would run and gun, power fishing all day, when the fish are not biting.
  12. 1/4 oz. and 3/8 oz. are the 2 weights I skip with a baitcaster. I learned by skipping a jig across my driveway, during winter. Once I was comfortable with the driveway, transitioning to water was pretty easy. One thing that helps while learning is. turn the brake up to high. It will minimize the skipping distance, but also minimize backlashes. once you get it down start backing the brake off. Another thing is, cast the bait out on a long cast, then wrap electrical tape once around the spool and reel it back up. If a backlash starts, the tape will keep it to a minimum. Any reel will work for skipping, but this is one technique where a quality reel will create a lot less headaches.. My preferred pitching and skipping reel is a Diawa Tatula SV. The SV spool keeps backlashes to a minimum. when you get comfortable try different angles. I practiced backhand skipping a lot. Once you get comfortable it is amazing how many places you can fish.
  13. for the first year it is under warranty. You send it back and they fix it or replace it. from personal experience they have good technical support. there is a schematic in the box. this is from my last Royal Legend Elite.
  14. I would get an Ultrex. they are expensive, but well worth it. I load my fiberglass bass boat on some lakes by just using the trolling motor. The foot pedal alone is a no show for me on the terrova, power drive, or Ulterra.
  15. ^^^ this. Over the years I have tried a lot of rods for the super fluke. The 733c fits right in the sweet spot. soft tip with plenty of backbone for hooksets.
  16. I also only live 5 minutes away. I fish it quite a bit. If the weather is nice, weekends can get pretty busy. there are a lot of pontoon boats out there. with the 20 mph limit, they can plow a lot of water. If you go out early, you can usually beat the pontoon crowd. It is a good Kayak lake. Pretty sheltered, so it rarely gets as rough as other lakes in the area. There are nice Smallmouth and Largemouth in that lake, but they are hard to find. If you don't mind catching smaller bass, a ned rig will usually keep you pretty busy.
  17. Cotton Cordell lipless cranks are a low cost gem. They have a unique sound and action. Most of the time I throw a ratl trap or redeye shad, but on occasion the cotton Cordell is what the fish want.
  18. if there is a walmart nearby they usually have a generic plug that fits most boats.
  19. Happy Thursday. After being happily married for 31 years, valentines day is just another day. Not much I can do at this point that can impress her. Just happy she still tolerates my Quirks. I went fishing yesterday. she went to the Casino today. We are both happy.
  20. Were you using the royal legend or royal legend elite. They are 2 totally different reels. Royal legend is a bargain reel. I don't put much stock in any companies bargain reels. I own several diawa tatula and revo sx reels. If setup correctly the royal legend elite is comparable to both in performance. From my own experience the kastking needs a little more spool tensioning than some other reels. Once setup it will outcast my other more expensive reels. After thousands of casts I have never had the spool tensioner come loose.
  21. One of many to come. Welcome to the addiction Known as bass fishing. Next step is to spend outrageous amounts of money on baits and equipment.?
  22. You have three different posts on the same subject. All of those together should not draw anything near 20 amps. If you are blowing a 20 amp fuse there is a short circuit. Something is not connected correctly. It is near impossible to troubleshoot from a forum.
  23. Been in that situation before. It is usually not fisherman. Most of the time it is pleasure kayakers that have no idea what they are doing.
  24. Here in Kansas the catfish is king and they get huge. Freshwater drum brings up a close second. Flathead catfish in particular are very fond of crankbaits. Can't count the number of flatheads over 10 pounds I have caught bass fishing.
  25. I used to feel the same way. I would shorten them and thin them out. Lost a lot of them over time. Now I just fan the weed guard out and fish. Don't miss many fish. My hookup ratio on jigs is just as good, if not better, than texas rigs
