  1. Hmm...I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks!
  2. They don't move out of current, although they are often positioned just outside of the fastest water breaking around any type of structure. Smallmouth seem to have a strong preference for hard bottom, rocks and ridges. During pre-spawn and spawn, gravel flats rule! You will tend to catch buck bass building nests shallow, the big girls waiting off in deeper water.
  3. Makes no sense to me. The law states "Right retrieve for baitcasting, left for spinning tackle."
  4. Hmm...How do I get one of those?
  5. The Fat Lady is already singing...With 11 minutes to go.
  6. Man that's a lot of rod! I hope you hook up with a muskie that bends it over or maybe a 25lb brown on the White River! What do you have in mind? :D

  8. Are these rods available yet? Can they be ordered direct? If not, who are some of the retailers?
  9. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and your family, Big O. :D
  10. What might surprise you is that Rage Tail offers baits for the entire water column; a range of profiles and a variety of action. I fished with a guy on the Roadtrip last year who didn't have any other lures in his boat! Dude seems to consistantly catch more and bigger fish than anyone else on the forum. Just can't recall his name...
  11. A few weeks ago, fishing on the upper portion of Pickwick, we found a big fish floating belly up. As we approached the fish it wiggled. I netted up a 4.5-5lb smallmouth with a 1lb+ bluegill stuck in her throat! I really didn't think the bass was going to survive, it took two of us to get the darn gill out, including knives and pliers. However, we released the fat girl and she swam away seemingly unfazed. Note: I don't fish bluegill for smallmouth and don't personally know anyone that does.
  12. I don't fish salt very often, but when I have fished for yellowfin tuna the deckhands measured the drag on on the reels we used with a scale and very precisely. The same technique can be used for freshwater gear as well. Although most experienced fishermen have a "feel" for their drag setting, I think it's fun to check it occasionally. This is what I do based on the 25% guideline: Yo-Zuri #6 has a breaking strength of 11.9 lbs. 25% is about 3lbs, 30% 4 lbs. String your rod and tie it to a plastic grocery bag containing a 3 or 4 lb free weight. GENTLY lift your rod until the drag begins to release. Tighten the drag until you can just lift the bag. Now when you try that with your baitcaster, I think you are going to find this is all your going to want. Technically Hybrid #12 is 19.5 lb breaking strength, so are we looking at a drag setting of 5-7lbs? I don't think so, but be careful and give it a try.
  13. No. I have a Scorpion 1000 super tuned. I would just as soon have another Curado 50E.
  14. You need to take a look at the newest challenger, Pinnacle Optimus XLT: http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/p-78-optimus-xlt.aspx#page=page-1 I think you should consider a matching rod, too!
  15. I just placed the order, but Falcon Craw is not listed so I entered "Chili". Please amend my order and if you are putting a little red on the green pumpkin jig head, that's fine, too.
  16. Great way to end the season. I hope you can make it down this way next spring for the Roadtrip. Details will be released soon. :D
  17. I GUARANTEE you will love this reel!
  18. All of the B.A.S.S Professionals at class recommended monofilament for jerkbaits. Sunline Super Natural is the only mono I fish. I think I may use it for crankbaits and topwater, too.
  19. Hmm... Rage Tail Baby Craw Rage Tail Craw Rage Tail Lobster :D
  20. Thanks! I'll order a dozen of each size (3/8 & 1/2 oz) on your website. -Kent
  21. Well, I can't figure out exactly which colors to order. The question is: When ordering on your website, what is the jig head color and skirt color for you're redesigned Big O jig to match the Rage Tail Falcon Craw? Also, I'm going to go with the Brush Image on this order, so which size or sizes do you recommend?
  22. Generally 5'-15', but a little deeper along the buoys which generally define the river channel. The better fish are almost always away from the bank. I prefer to drift casting distance plus about five yards or so.
  23. I love my Core 100 and 50. HOWEVER, I like the comparable Curado a lot for a MUCH better price. I cannot see any reason to step up to the Core. There is simply not enough "value added".
  24. If you are interested in smallmouth, we can hook-up on the Tennessee River below Pickwick Dam. If you have a flexible schedule, let's pick a weekday when we know the TVA will have good release. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
