Instead of waiting for that special occasion, it's time to surprise her with her own rig. Not one of your outfits, but a new one of her own. Take my word for it, you will be glad you did! 8-)

Tips for a Co-Angler
Not "trolling" with the big motor. Trolling as in dragging the C-rig while your boater is casting. Another term that might be more PC: drifting. 8-)

Help a noob outfit his tackle box. (one local store to choose from)
Mike, I suggest starting with just two baits in the same lure class. Catch a bunch of bass, then expand from there. Try this and save your money for future purchases: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137 Good luck! 8-)

Tips for a Co-Angler
Troll a Rage Tail Lizard or Eeliminator on a C-rig. You won't be in the way and will probably outfish the boater! Note: Use as much weight as necessary to maintain bottom contact. 8-)

river influenced resevoirs
The key is structure. Focus on spots that divert the current; bottom contour which includes ditches, ledges, humps and makeup transition. Rock piles, boulders, mussel beds and vegetation are all possible targets. Look for something different! 8-)

How do you rig a Yamamoto "Kreatrure"?
Rigging the hook: 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook, standard T-rig or Texposed depending on the cover. As with any lure, location is everything. I have some luck on structure, but the Kreature really shines in and around weeds. The best situation is fishing along a weedline, fished like a spinnerbait with an occasional twitch. 8-)

If You Caught a Record Fish...
A new State Record Smallmouth might be worth a few million bucks around here. The fish would have to be kept and necropsy performed. Documentation on such a fish would need to be thorough and by the book. This record has been in place for over 50 years and may never be broken.

Red Eye Shad
All crankbaits have a common characteristic: some have the mojo, others do not. Raul says 1 in 10, that might be high! Rather than fishing what you have, buy another or two and give them a try. 8-)

Spinning rod for zoom flukes
You will like this rod matched with your reel. Besides flukes, this combination will handle all soft plastics, light jigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. 8-)

You're Invited to the 5th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Last Saturday on Pickwick On the Forum I have stated that "everything works in the spring, pick your favorite lures". Saturday I pre-rigged 10 rods, four on deck, six stored. I fished most lures for 30 minutes, whether I caught fish or not. Starting with a small Wiggle Wart, snagged three "keepers" before changing rods. The only lures that didn't produce were jigs and spinnerbaits. I attribute the jig failure to fishing too fast, my partner was scootin' down the bank and that's just not my deal with a jig. The guides I talked with said it's too early for topwater and spinnerbaits, but I went with them anyhow. The Cavitron produced several strikes and 1 small bass. Nothing on 2 different spinnerbaits. Best structure was gravel bars, shallow. However, this trip was all about numbers so we didn't fish much in deeper water. Overall, mostly green fish and one brown. The big bass was +/- 4 lbs, our five best were around 13 lbs or so. We caught bass throughout the day. If I were fishing to win, I would have stayed with medium depth crankbaits all day: Wiggle Wart, Rapala Shad Rap, XCalibur Xr50, Bandit 200, LC Rick Clunn 3.5 and Bagley BII. "Moving" baits seemed to be key. However, soft plastics were effective. My big fish was caught on a Rage Tail Lizard, C-rigged on rip rap in about 8' of water. Found one more before moving to the next presentation. This was another rig I could have probably fished all day. I think we will be on a topwater bite by May1. 8-)
