  1. Welcome to the retired club. I am in my eighth year of retirement and wish I could have done it a lot sooner. It is tough. It took me almost 20 minutes to get adjusted to it. Hope you get well soon.

  11. I use trailers on chatterbaits and jigs. It is a very rare day I use one on a spinnerbait.
  12. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  13. We've had 40+ MPH winds off and on all day. The heavy rain is supposed to hit us around midnight. At least that is there best guess right now.
  14. I know what you are talking about on crossover parts. Where I always ran in to trouble was when they built something to some odd specs. I had to have bearings replaced in the motors on some exhaust hoods several years ago. They made them an odd size and the only way to get them was to order from the original manufacturer. I couldn't find a replacement motor that would in this design. I ran in to this on several other pieces of equipment we had but it was a lot easier to get what I needed for them.
  15. I have several of them although I'm not currently using them. I have two Abu 5600c4s in the original winch model geared for 3.8:1, one 5600c4 geared for 6.4:1, and a 5600 c3 geared for 5.3:1. I have taken them out and used them in the past just get a little more use out of them. I still have several of the old Ambassadeur 5000s I could use if I need to.
  16. Hello and welcome to the forum. Enjoy your retirement.
  17. Thoughts and prayers for speedy recovery. Hopefully you will be back on the water catching them soon.
  18. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  19. Like several others I started with an Ambassadeur 5000 reel. I don't even remember what rod it was on. At the time this was the premium baitcast reel. My rods were all 2 piece back then to make it easier to put them in the car whenever we went fishing. I wouldn't change a thing. I still have some old 5000 reels and it wouldn't bother me to clean them up and use them again.
  20. I read the article about 7 things you need in your boat. I did not know they had made the changes to replacing fire extinguishers on boats. I had been thinking about replacing mine anyway. Now I know I have to even though the little pop up button says it is still good. Oh and my extinguisher is only 25 years old. With any luck I will have a new one tomorrow.
  21. That would have been me almost four years ago before I quit. Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, food, water, needle nose pliers, and a PFD. Went fishing one time without a cap in the boat. I won't make that mistake again. The top of my head was sunburned even though I still have quite a bit of hair.
  22. He did not have time to go in to a detailed explanation of how it worked the way it did. I think @MN Fisher nailed it as to how it works.
  23. I also wish they would do away with DST. Like @Jaderose said all of the kids would be going to school in the dark. One of our local weather men said he wanted to stay on standard time. He says where the weather information comes from is an hour later getting here in DST. This can be critical in getting the info out in times of severe weather conditions. I don't like the idea of not seeing daylight till close to 9A.M. or dark till after 9P.M.
  24. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  25. My dad got me in to fishing when I was around 6 or 7 years old. Started out with a cane pole fishing for bream and crappie. He got me my first spincast combo with either S&H Green stamps or Top Value stamps when I was either 10 or 11. We didn't have a way to get a lot of fishing info back then. We would go with what we heard from the members of the fishing club there where we lived. He worked for the water company and we lived on their property. We had 3 lakes to fish anytime we wanted to. When he retired they gave him an Ambassadeur 5000 reel and a Pflueger rod. This was the only baitcaster combo he ever had. He never owned a spinning combo either. Later on I learned on my own or I learned a lot fishing with one of my older brothers. We used to fish together for quite a few years.
