  1. Your correct TOXIC. There will always be a need for skilled tradesmen.
  2. I say any time on the water can make you a better fisherman.I think your becoming a better bass angler.
  3. A lot of guys think that as soon as they pick up a hammer, they deserve 30 dollars per hr. It's never been like this. As a retired carpenter I trained many apprentice carpenters in this field. They all had to start somewhere, and with little knowledge or skills this is how it is. You could never expect to start at the top wage, if you can't run a saw, measure accurately, or don't know where to start on any project. In tade work, your paid for your knowledge, skills and speed. This comes with time and experience. As your skills improve, your pay rate goes up. This is how it's been since I started in this work, over 35 yrs ago.
  4. I never expected this thread to take off like this. If I've offended anyone, that was never my intention. I apologize. I appreciate all the input here.
  5. He had a very good helper named Jordan. He paid Jordan 24 dollars per hr, with paid holidays and insurance that was very affordable. Jordan worked full time for two years, then recently moved back to Michigan to help his mom. So, he needs a good hand now.
  6. True. He has this add posted on every job site in our area. Local newspapers also. Someone will turn up eventually. Then the question is how long will they work? True. 7. A-Jay, I agree 100 percent. I wish they could teach commitment. Most everything we do in life takes a commitment. A strong one. An easy example is our fishing. You want to be good? It takes commitment.
  8. Of course they count, and I support all of them. Just very hard to find good help these days.
  9. It's a sad deal. My dad grew up in the depression, worked first at age 12 to help the family struggle though. Then served in WW2 in combat. His motto was, " always be proud of your work. It's not the job you do, or how much money you make, it's about having pride in being a working man". Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see guys like him again.
  10. This is true here also. But, this job offers a chance to learn a trade skill, which can be a lifelong job that pays very well. You start small, and work your way up. Like going to school.
  11. A friend of mine runs a small general contracting business. I help him on a part time basis, usually two or three days per week. He does all sorts of home repairs, everything from small concrete repairs, new doors and windows, painting, etc. No job is too small, and he does this for a fair price. A senior citizen discount also. He's been looking for an extra helper now for two weeks. The job pays 18.00 per hr to start. All tools are provided, as well as t shirts to wear to work. He's willing to train the right person, and has more than enough work to keep a guy busy full time. This includes winter interior work also. He's also good about giving pay increases to someone who will stick with it, and has a desire to learn. He had two guys answer e mails. Neither showed up for the interview. Now, going on three weeks, and no one has applied. This is a well established business, for over twenty years, and has a good reputation with lots of repeat customers. My friend is an expert carpenter, and does excellent work. I don't understand this, and it's a real problem. This is sad, and it's not good. Anyone care to comment on this. Why do you think people are not taking jobs? Come on boys, it's time to get back to work. It's past time.
  12. I usually say " hawg" or sometimes " big girls".

I can't watch it. I can only eat one hot dog, and I prefer it roasted over a campfire. That's my limit. That guy will pay for this at some point.
  14. Big worm or jig. Large topwaters also. Night time is the right time.
  15. I fish many of the same spots on every trip. Depending on things, they may or may not produce fish on any given day.
  16. I have one St Croix heavy action 7 foot rod. I rarely use it anymore. It's made for heavy lines and I'm fishing lighter lines most of the time now.
  17. I often bank fish with one med spinning rod and a small box that clips on to my belt loop. I like to travel light, and a Roboworm or similar usually works. If I took another rod I'd pick a med/hvy casting rod.
  18. My dad and brother were both military veterans. Even though we have certain days set aside for our veterans, it's still important to thank them whenever you can. If you see a man in uniform, or you know someone who is a veteran, give them a quick nod and tell them thank you. Regardless of what branch of the military they served in, or what they're job was, it's important to tell them thank you. They deserve this, and will always appreciate it.
  19. Have used mono for years. I tried flouro and didn't really like it. I found Co poly is a good middle of the road. And I still use mono on some reels too.

My son in law Eric, runs his family farm here in north central Mo. Eric is a good man, devoted to his family and his work. He's the last person I would ever think that could become depressed, to the point that he really can't function. His dad had a stroke two years ago, and now is unable to help him run the farm. He has two men that are good steady hands, and have worked for him for years. Currently, they're kind of running things for him. I'm not sure what brought this on for him, but I think it's a combination of several things, especially what happened to his dad. He's currently going to some counseling, both group and one on one. He'll probably need some medicine for this, and is trying to find the right doctor to help him. I've never asked this here on BR before, but I'm asking my fellow BR members to remember him in your prayers. He needs help, and I believe this will help him. Thank you.
  21. I started with a chrome Zebco 33. I still have it. If you started out on a spincasting reel, which model did you have?
  22. I put in about 7 hrs of work, fixing some siding on a rental house of my daughters. Around 90 degrees here and very humid. Worked up a good sweat.
  23. A hamburger cooked on a grill is a very popular food for summer. I cook them on a charcoal grill, and my favourite is: One slice sweet Vadalia onion, one slice homegrown tomatoes, a light coat of mayonnaise on the bun, and a shot of salt and pepper. What's your favourite way to have a hamburger cooked on the grill?
  24. A-Jay, nice work on finding her a new home. My wife and I have thought about fostering dogs. But we decided against it. We both love our dogs so much, and we become very attached to them. They're a big part of our everyday lives. Again, thank you for taking care of her and helping her find a good home.
