top water poppers
I tie direct. A lot of poppers sit tail down in the water. When you move them forward they come up level on the surface.

The worst thing about bass fishing
This is one for me also. I don't like guys leaving trash laying around. But, this applies to everyone who goes to the lakes. Leave No Trace is my motto.

The worst thing about bass fishing
I love everything about bass fishing, except guys that brag too much, and too much dock talk.

The Ethics Finding Spots Through Observation
Just pass slowly by these guys, give them a wave, and go fish another spot. When they leave the spot is yours to fish.

The Ethics Finding Spots Through Observation
I agree. If you can reach them with a cast, your too close.

Improving Your Casting
There's always been some really good casters in the pro ranks. Many have been good. If you feel that you need to improve your casting accuracy, I'll suggest watching some videos of Larry Nixon in action. As he moves slowly along, he mixes it up with overhand, sidearm, and a kind of lob cast he's got. Each cast is right on the money, with a quiet bait entry, in the perfect spot. There's no doubt that this type of casting accuracy helped him in his success. This was before pitching became popular. A standard casting rod, low profile reel, and mono line. One of the all time greats in bass fishing. His casting is perfection.

The Ethics Finding Spots Through Observation
On my home lake, I have six really good spots that I've located. These usually produce some fish. I also make a couple of bank trips there each week. I've seen guys fishing two of these spots. I'm not sure if they've caught many fish or not, but I don't care. Bass move in and out of prime spots, and they don't always produce. When they leave, I've gone behind them and fished. The lakes are there for all of us to fish. So, I don't think it's unethical to fish any areas, as long as you don't crowd someone.

Honor The Moms
With mother's day coming up Sunday, I always felt it was important to honor and pay respect to the mothers. Being a mom is a tough, sometimes thankless job. Moms are the ones who are usually in the trenches at home. Taking care of sick children in the middle of the night. Packing lunches for school. Helping with homework, and wearing themselves out taking care of the family and the home. The old saying," a woman's work is never done", was made for mother's. We owe them a big thank you for all they've done through the years. Honor the mom's on Mother's Day. Try and make it a special day for them. They deserve it.

Clear Water Is A Challenge
Catt, my plastic worms are my best bait overall on this clear lake. They outproduce everything. Making long cast with light t rig worms is counter to how I was taught years ago. We always thought short accurate cast worked best. Getting too much line out front with a light t rig - it's harder to feel strikes also. We have to adjust as we go. There really are no set rules. But, I'm getting it down.

Clear Water Is A Challenge
With the season well underway, I'm again faced with fishing gin clear water. It's a constant challenge to catch fish, and not spook them. After a few seasons at this clear water lake, I've learned to stay back and make longer cast. I also have to be aware of shadows from the boat, which can put fish down for a time. At times, clear water fish can be very tuned in to the surface, and topwaters work well on some days. Overcast days, just spitting rain are always good, as is night fishing. I usually have to fish deeper for these fish. Most days they're hugging the bottom, especially on bright sunny days. I'm convinced that clear water fish are more sensitive to noise from above. It helps to be stealthy. Boat noise, loud talking or similar things can spook them in my experience. For those that fish clear, deep water, what are your methods? Do you have any certain things that work the best for you?

What has rapala done?
Most all the baits we use are a variation of something that's been around for a while. They might be improved to a degree, but there's really nothing new in bass lures. Some are based on baits that are 50 yrs old or older.

Wife fishing
My wife has fished with me many times. Best advice I could give is get her casting over fish. Use some simple baits. My wife likes grubs, Beetlespins and similar things. Once she hooks up with a couple she will hopefully like fishing. Crappie are good when they're spawning, and they bite fast. I'll also add that my wife picks out her own baits, pretty much based only on color. She's also out fished me in the past.

She did it!
Congratulations on her graduation. Great job!

Spinning gets the nod
Sometimes some folks don't like the feel of a casting reel sitting on top of a rod, as opposed to a spinning reel hanging below. And keep in mind that lots of folks use spinning reels for all bass fishing. The newer spinning reels are up to the task.

Spinning gets the nod
Some of us started on reels that had no mag brakes. Only one spool adjustment on the old ABUs. After you picked out so many backlashes you learned a good casting form, and how to use your thumb. Newer reels seem easy by comparison.

Double zulu with floating worms.....??
This is a new one for me. What exactly is the " double Zulu rig"?
