  1. I had a somewhat similar experience a while ago. I was fishing a spinnerbait and latched on to a solid fish. Couple of pounds.. As I was fighting it back to the boat it was boiling along on the surface. 6 ft. from the boat and a 5-6 pounder nailed it! Needless to say, I was so shocked I quit reeling for a split second. This bigger fish was determined to eat the smaller one! It would not give up! When I boated the fish I had hooked the big fish boiled the water and was gone. I fished there another 15 minutes and never got it to hit again. I firmly believe if I had been fishing a bait with multiple trebles I could've landed both fish. At one point my fish was firmly in the other fishes mouth. But, my bait only having one hook prevented my landing them both. It was amazing.
  2. I can understand that. We sort of have that down here. Most bass anglers become hardcore hunter all winter long. Ducks, rabbits, deer, and deer, and deer.... take the preeminence over fishing. And, hunting season lasts until Jan. 31st. So, a few warmer days in the late winter and BAM it's on like a chicken bone and I'm the only guy on the lake that's fishing. That's when I catch my years PB often times.
  3. I have 5 boys and 3 girls AND a boat. It is doable as long as you're realistic in your choice of boat.
  4. If and when we do see a logo update we'll have the "inside" info that it was YOU the made it new logo.
  5. Caught these in northern La. Thanksgiving week. Water was 50 degrees and muddy. A double Colorado blade spinner bait did the damage. I ended up with 15 total. I can't imagine total ice out. My heart goes out to you guys up north.
  6. You'll find that members here spend thousands of dollars at Tackle Warehouse. Customer service at it's finest. Every shipment comes with a return shipping label inside in case you're not happy with something.
  7. My current favorite finesse crank is the Bagley Rattlin' Honey B. This little jewel is only 1/4 oz and 1-1/2 inches long. I caught some very nice fish on it too.
  8. Hand poured worms in the most awful colors imaginable. My Dad poured them by mixing old plastics together. Weird colors abounded but the action was amazing. We caught fish on them. I still have a few of them and wouldn't sell them for $100 apiece. I get them out every so often, take a deep smell of them, and go back to a better place when things were so simple and easy. I'm sitting in the back of a 12 ft John boat and Dad is easing around the bank while we toss those old ugly worms to the shallows and waiting on that signature "tap-tap"... I can still hear his most often repeated advice every time I fish a T-rig. "Son, you CANNOT fish a worm TOO SLOW!! SLOW DOWN! You're fishing way too fast! That's the only reason I've caught 5 and you've not caught anything. SLOW DOWN!!" I've tried to use that advice in many other areas of my life as well. We all live way too fast.....
  9. True that... I love the Swimbait they offer and $54 worth turned into a $33 order with free shipping. You can't beat that!!
  10. How about if you place it horizontal?? Sorry, I couldn't help myself, Catt.....
  11. He hasn't visited this site since the very day he posted his review. So, I doubt you'll get any kind of response from him. Others may chime in.
  12. Something tells me that Catt is being a bit cagey with that wink. He may have a secret up his sleeve. ?
  13. A correctly tied Palomar knot is one of the strongest knots you can make with mono. The biggest thing to remember is when you double your line thru the eye of your bait don't allow the lines to cross at the eye when you tie your overhand knot. As long as the lines lay parallel on the eye of the bait you'll never have the line bite into itself and cause weakness. This isn't a major problem with mono anyway. Mostly floruo.
  14. You are forcing THOUGHT above EMOTION.... As with most emotionally charged purchases, it often turns out the items purchased are not the best suited for the situation at hand. Very wise and astute observations here.
  15. They need to purchase them now as TW has gift cards discounted this week.
  16. Use a Colorado blade, if at all possible. You want as much vibration as you can get while reeling as SLOW as you can in the water you described.
  17. They better get their act together. With big names like Brent Chapman touting their gear there will be more willing to try them. And when the shelves are empty consumers move on to another product.
  18. Dude, you are on the wrong forum. The goal of this site is too better educate the fisherman on how to catch MORE fish!! And I, for one, am proud to be here and have learned much. If it's no fun then, by all means, put your equipment up for sale in the Flea Market and move on to some benign harmless hobby like golfing or even crochet. geez....
  19. I'm pretty sure that tray should be facing the other way since the power plug is at the top. The slope is to ease the strain of the foot control cables exiting the recessed tray.
  20. We all afford what we deem is most important. Or what we want the worst. I have 5 boys and 3 girls. The oldest moved out a year ago. I had to prioritize. Instead of vacation we bought a boat. We decreased the eating out and things of that nature and bought a boat. We determined a boat was worth some sacrifice. Now, it's paid for. Of course, God blessed me with an increased income that helped a ton, but I didn't have that raise when I bought the boat. Ultimately, my wife and I sat down and crunched the numbers to insure we would not put ourselves in financial straits. Then, I shopped and shopped until I found a good deal. I bought it in the off season. I also bought last years model, so to speak. I got a great deal and went for it. I have NOT regretted it a single day since. If you have no savings, no emergency fund, then you DO NOT need to purchase anything that is not absolutely necessary. Once you've got a plan to defeat Murphey THEN you can move forward with the elective purchases. That's my outlook on finances. And, as always, you can look for some side jobs and such to build a savings for a nice downpayment or even cash a boat out. As many have said already, it's about priorities. Just how bad do you want it?
  21. Will, The pic of your setup takes me back 40 years to my Dad's backwater honey hole. I'm sitting on the bench seat casting a weedless, hand poured, flat tail worm with a Zebco 33 while Dad is wearing them out with his various Abu 5500C's and 5000A's. Thanks for the refreshed memories.
  22. Absolutely stunning. I bet you're real popular to your fishing friends around this time of the year. Talk about a homemade present!!
  23. Count me as a no one, I guess. I always want to know... I love big fish stories.
