Learning From Our Mistakes
Been there. I had a bad habit of trying to fish the seasons to early because I didn't want to miss any of certain bites/phases such as our shad spawn which is phenomenal. Thats why I started documenting the weather, water temp, every fish no matter size or species, lure, and location. 5 years of info on my phone has greatly ruduced my urge to push the fish. Good luck.

Is 20 pound braid really visible?
I made my wife some scrambled eggs and layed a 3" piece of Daiwa 6lb J - Braid Light gray on top. She immediately saw it(she has 20/20 vision above the water). 20 lb is visible. It would almost impossible to tie knots if it was invisible. I use fluorocarbon leaders.

Never I Have I Ever......
Wow! Should've worked hardened that Smoke with 3 or 400 smaller fish. I mean you can't just jump on 5 lbers like you can with Shimano's. ?

Spinning reel size
It'll work fine. I prefer a 1000 for a light rod but I'm petite.

Are there any private membership lakes in your area?
There's a 200 acres mill pond that's $200 a year 150 miles from my house. A third of it appears to be flooded Cypress trees. I've been considering joining for a couple years and likely will this year. It's trophy managed(C & R) for LM and is electric only. Huge difference from the deep clears water I usually fish.

Fighting the wind
Wind is the very reason I put a Terrova 80 lb I -Pilot Link on my 1448 Lowe. For 13 years I got my rump whipped attempting to fight the wind with a 40 lb with no spot lock. The lake I fish 50 - 100 trips a year is at the top of a hill and they pump water uphill to fill it and it's always double the wind speed forecast. If they predict 10 it's 20 mph, if they say 20 it's 30 mph per my Kestrel. I grew tired of fishing where the wind allowed. I'd squeeze another battery in and bump the thrust up.

I'd be ran over on the interstate by the tractor trailers.

Love New Truck Day ~
Only problem I have is the speed rating on my trailer tires.?

Wishbone~ Anyone else having this problem...
They'll always let you know when you should've retired them. Just like a knot that should've been retied after that last fish.

Help me advise my buddy and his 7 year old
Small corks, split shot(lead), #6 hooks, and a few Beetle Spins should keep him entertained.

Bank Fishing Stand Or Take A Chair
I stand while bank fishing ponds and stay on the move for a few hours. In the boat I use a lean 2/standing/Pro seat whatever you call them for 6 - 8 hours. A duck hunters swamp seat is adjustable and portable.

The first soft plastic bait I ever threw. The lizard.
I agree but after everybody and their cousins have shown the fish 800 gazillion Roboworms, I'll give them a different profile with the lizard.

I steer clear of bikers. They're a rough bunch.?

Zoom 4" Lizard on the dropshot is very effective post spawn into the Summer here.

Go to lure during spawn
Super Fluke and Ned TRD have been really producing for us. But when the water hits 67(likely this week) the 130 will simply be unbeatable as the last 4 years have shown. It's the shad spawn and I'll have the Fluke or a WP in on deck until May. With a Bull Herring & Bull Shad tagging in at key big fish areas.

My Generation the 40’s.
My weekly fishing partner is 81. He says I'm constantly teaching him about fishing. I tell him it's still a very uneven exchange of knowledge. He's seen and done things I haven't even thought about. He's still got it.
