  1. On the advice of a Zman tech I bought some Flambeau boxes, not the BPS and Cabelas kind, directly from the company. Elaztech still warps them but not like it did the pvc boxes.
  2. Holding the jig like this keeps the paint out of the eye.
  3. Jigs painted with powder left dull won’t drip when baked. Shiny ones are prone to dripping or having a paint nose on them. There is no reason for a powder painted jig to have paint in the hook eye. I haven’t used soft lead in jigs for years. Mine contains antimony.
  4. What type of oven will you be using? If it is a toaster oven you need to monitor it because they are notoriously wrong in the actual temp vs the one you set. I melted some jigs completely off the hook until I got mine figured out.
  5. I assume you mean a tandem spinnerbait. When the water temp is 50° or warmer is the best. Tie one on drop the trolling motor and start casting. Cover a lot of ground. You never know where they will be when they react to it. Vary your retrieve, slow, fast, start/stop until you get bit. I’ve caught them in a few inches of water, near bridge piers suspended over 80’ of water, along bluffs, standing timber, lay downs, points, coves, etc. Clouds and wind are helpful. Early morning at the crack of dawn is very good. I always have at least one tied on. I will be throwing one tomorrow.

I buy most of my hooks by the 1000 count. I inspect everyone of them before using them. No matter the brand, I find a few that didn’t get properly closed. Those I discard.
  7. My wife and I sat down with our daughter a few years ago and got most things settled. Then we all went to a law firm specializing in estate planning. They set up a family trust for us which spells out everything in the event of our deaths. We have even retitled all of our assets to the trust so it will be a smooth transition when the time comes and avoid probate court. We meet yearly with the lawyer and go over any changes and update the records.
  8. The spinnerbait has been one of my favorite go to lures for a long time. I always have at least one tied on. The chatterbait was as good as the spinnerbait 3 years ago for a couple of months. Since then I can rarely catch a fish on one of them.
  9. I like cork covered with shrink tubing.
  10. Hardware cloth is light weight and cheap and can be found lots of places. I keep it around all of the time.
  11. You can do it but unless you have enough to have it in separate colors you may end up with brown.
  12. That transducer is not designed to be in the water when you are on plane.
  13. I sounds like a bad placement. However, more information and some pics would help a lot.
  14. The jigging spoon is one of my favorite baits. I don't normally use them in less than 25' of water and will fish them as deep as needed though rarely deeper than 100'.
  15. I have 2 one is a 7'6" All Pro that I bought down at the Ark Rod factory a few years ago. The other one is a 7'6" custom rod that I had built to complement the All Pro. I have Shimano X70 8:1 reels mounted on both of them and 12# fluorocarbon line.
  16. I ran Lows for years and now have Birds. I never have done anything except stow the trolling motor and go to another spot unless I am making a run back to the truck then I shut both bow units down.
  17. If you aren’t knowledgeable then I suggest that you do some research before you buy. I haven’t gone that way yet because I think they are all made in China. How would one get a warranty claim processed?
  18. When I make mine all of the wires are together. I have to pull them apart and position them how I want them be.
  19. I make my own and since we can only have 3 hooks I put blades on 2 of them. I set mine up with the bladed wires pointing up and out from the head. Two of the baited wires are pointed out and down. The 5th wire is in the middle.
  20. It works ok. Devcon I I epoxy is what a lot of people use.
  21. Paint your thumb with a coat of super glue.
  22. Nope.
  23. Except for those times that I am fishing the bottom the wind is my friend. That is why I have a 112# thrust trolling motor and a heavy fiberglass boat.
  24. I called Zman about this very issue. I was told that it was the chemical reaction of Elaztech and PVC which what these boxes are made from same as plastic baits. He told me Flambeau boxes didn't react the same way so I ordered some. There is still some warping but not as bad.
