  1. I noticed at one point yesterday the reel that Johnston was using had a bad bearing in it... I can't believe he continued using it. Also, I really dislike the sound of the DC reels used by some. We haven't heard many baitcasters used in recent years I feel.
  2. I refuse to target beds I can see but the last few years it's been the Berkley Gilly. Thing seems to anger bass during the spawn. If I can see the bed I steer clear of it.
  3. I throw a lot of 8-10" glides. I have noticed my size doesn't go up when I throw something 12" and my catch rates fall off drastically. I mainly throw custom resin glides and 4-5 oz wakes.
  4. I have never cared for any of the DRT baits and don't understand the hype behind them. As someone that fishes "big" baits more than most people DRT klashes are like a crescent wrench. Sure, it works, but I would rather have the right size wrench or a socket if it allows. They aren't hard to get - you just pay a bit for them. More than I want to pay for something that's less refined than other things I csn get at that price point.
  5. A few guys during the live said it was a hard adjustment as well. Of course it is when you take a tool away that works well for you.
  6. Watching this while jigging in my ice hut on 12" of ice.
  7. I have found a lot of reels have this happen - when you clean it, you remove all the sludge and old grease that dampens the vibration and smooths out the gears. Over time, the gears will reseat and smooth out. There are ways to make it smooth but that involves using polishing agents and such which isn't all that necessary.
  8. Looks like they have an old Facebook page and became deep creek lures? You could always message them and ask. https://www.facebook.com/share/16N9y3ZbJ9/
  9. I can think of 5 times in my 46 years that I was extremely excited for a new to me lure. ○1990 when I fished a spinnerbait at my uncle's pond . I caught bass almost every cast for a few hours. It became my go to lure for years and I bought a bunch of them. ○2000 when I fished a jerkbait the right way for the first time and caught a ton of huge pike on an early spring trip. I got a bunch of them and never looked back. ○2012 when I fished a bladed jig for the first time. After a guy at the local tackle store told me they were nothing special and more of a lure for down south. He told me I would be better off fishing a spinnerbait. I got 2 to try and caught a bunch of big bass in the coming weeks. ○2015 when I fished a m.s. slammer at night for bass. Caught some of the biggest bass of my life that night and it definitely set me down the path and obsession of using large baits for large bass. ○2024 last summer when I fished a dice bait for the first time on highly pressured water - caught a decent bass on the first 3 casts. They have been added to my regular arsenal since.
  10. So many questions- Depth? How much pressure? Weeds? Fishing from the bank? Is there structure? What species are in there?
  11. You can get Toxic Baits Wade Hoggs. I have the resin models but there are ABS models available. Other good cheaper baits would be the fishlab biogill wake, river2sea tacticalwake and a Bullshad wake. Some of the rats are ok, but the 2 piece ones seem to work better for me... I have a few...
  12. I run most of my tat sv reels with the brakes on 0 or with just a bit of brake. It should cast well and be pretty smooth - I have 6 of them and they all cast super well.
  13. From the back of a boat I consistently can cast further with my Zillions than others with Shimano and others. I am the complete opposite though, I can't stand shimano's braking system and do not like how they feel in my hand.
  14. I call all my glides, gliders. The shine glide is one of the best swimming mass produced shad profile gliders on the market.
  15. Its possible the thumb bar hole is loose. You should be able to take thin metal shims, wrap them around it glue it in place to tighten it up. I did something like that on an older reel since I couldn't locate the parts.
  16. Getting mad at your wife because your shirt and shorts that match your 50th anniversary limited edition Metanium weren't thrown in the dryer and you have to leave to go to the local derby. Life's tough.
  17. I have had a pair for 2 years and I like them.
  18. It's always easier until a manufacturer starts making 5 sizes of a bait. LOL. Generally I have an idea for said body of water but new bodies.of water I generally go with a mid size bait.
  19. I am still baffled so many people use big game. There are certain applications like surf casting and maybe fishing for catfish where I can see its benefit. My experience has been it's awful for many reasons for me. - It doesn't lay on the spool well and doesn't remain tight. - It gets horribly water logged and changes the buoyancy of the line as you fish. - Its somewhere around 20% thicker than copolymer and fluoro lines of reported lb test. Combine that with the waterlogged line and it quickly becomes huge on your spool. - It's so springy and stretchy that it kills any hope of super accurate casts towards the bank or targeting structure. Most of my casting is hitting targets the size of a dinner plate - big game is nigh impossible in this application. - When fishing big baits you need to respool about every 4-6 hours of fishing due to the line stretching out and becoming unwieldy. - Hooksets are rough. It feels like a rubber band. Sure, once it's hooked the line absorbs the headshakes and does well fighting them. - After speaking to a rod builder he said most of the newer rods are designed around using fluorocarbon and braid. - Because of the stretch dialing in your drag is a lot tougher. I rarely use spinning reels and I have about 40 baitcasters that are all spooled up with various forms of braid as the main line to flouro or copoly leaders depending on the need. I get 3+ years on the braid so its a heck of a lot cheaper and less time consuming than spooling up with mono. It's so hard for me to understand people using mono.
  20. Maybe the beast coast blade runner
  21. I am not that tall - 5'10" - and I use a lot of rods 7'6"-8'. I have no problems skipping with 7'6" rods and love the leverage I get.
  22. Is it though? As far as casting reels go, I much prefer Daiwa over shimano. Shimano doesn't do it for me in any way. Spinning reels, I don't really have a preference since they all feel weird which is why I mostly use BFS. I love the T-wings and I am a braid to leader guy on just about everything.
  23. First off, pick out the baits you want to throw. A large bait doesn't have to be heavy - some of the best baits I throw that are around 10" fall in the 4-5 oz range. LDC are great rods but there are a lot of other good ones on the market too. Leviathan, F5, Daiwa and IRod make some great models for swimbaits. I throw quite a few swimbaits...
  24. I don't even own a spool of mono anymore - gave it all away. I use copoly, fluoro as leaders with braid as the main line on all of my reels.
  25. I don't think the three rivers is would work for a 100 boat tournament - but worked great for a classic. One of the best classics ever too.
