  1. Unfortunately those that don't care will likely never care. They simply don't care about the resources they've been gifted but rather the success they pursue. Respect and morals are taught in kindergarten, many miss the boat and by then......it's to late. It goes beyond fishing.
  2. The region I live in have equal amounts of smallmouth and largemouth and in waterways where both species exist, the smallmouth are much easier to catch.....win win.

    Truck was totaled
  4. Can't say I've had much luck with all red but red flake has produced early.
  5. Think about other baits that are user friendly and less likely to snag. Baits like poppers, top water Jerkbaits, really any top water. Learn how to rig plastics weedless where the hook is not exposed. This would be my top choice for you and your boy to enjoy fishing and catch fish but you may need to upgrade your equipment.....it's a weightless Senko, texas rigged.

60 here and opting for the one and done myself.
  7. Wow, the photo makes them look like DD bass......happy for your boy ?.
  8. The clear waters I fish, bone and pearl have been excellent choices on cloudy days. More specifically, Jerkbaits and flukes.
  9. It's the Loons in our local lake.......they catch more and better quality fish then I do, I've witnessed it. Never saw a Loon throw a fish back either.
  10. I use the Alberto with 15# Power pro to 8# Sunline sniper without issue with micro guides. Whatever knot you decide on, you'll find it best to prevent the knot from entering the reel.
  11. I also live a very isolated lifestyle but the wife is still working. Currently I'm a no on the shots but wife is getting hers. Guess I'll keep a close watch on her and see if she starts growing horns, if not, I may change my mind.
  12. I would say that Otters could be detrimental to the fish population in small bodies of water as they are voracious predators and intelligent. They are claimed to be nocturnal but not always. We were trout fishing on the Williams river in WV and watched a group of Otters herd trout into the shallows and devour them. I doubt that they would delete the pond of every fish but they most certainly will have an effect.
  13. Experimenting is good, it's how bass fishing has evolved. I prefer the skirt simply because it slows the bait, more buoyancy but always a trailer like a curly tail, my preference. Have a good friend who throws skirtless with Zoom flukes and sends me pics.....there you go. Spinnerbaits are very proven and believe the spinning blades and flash are the major players here. Wish you great success.
  14. No. My most memorable 1st cast catch was sitting in my kayak waiting for my cousin to launch his boat in the river. Simply slung a spinnerbait in middle of the river and WHAM.....4# smallmouth. Cousin just laughed and said " well, doubt you top that today " and I didn't.
  15. That's a hog, congrats.
  16. I will also add, It's much much easier to skip under docks while standing. I've not mastered it yet seated in a fishing kayak and still get some stray casts......something I miss about the bass boat.
  17. I'm much better at skipping with spinning and shorter rod for better accuracy 6'6 - 6'8. Wacky rig Senko seems to Skip better than T-rig and better yet is Zoom fluke. In clear water i always have a Flouro leader 8 - 10# tied to 15# braid......hard to beat limp braid for skipping. Imo
  18. I simply won't fish without a pair of polarized glasses wrapped around my face.....a critical component. Have you honestly not tried polarized glasses? Try some and report back.
  19. First thought was what a gorgeous river and at the same time.....Knew something didn't look right. Lol
  20. I prefer weightless in heavy cover and skipping them.
  21. It's one of the first baits I start out with early in the morning, catches fish here. Choppo 105 and plopper 90 are the ones I throw the most. The cheaper gimmicks don't work nearly as well.
  22. It's hard to overload a mind with limited resources but the resources within should not be a limiting factor.
  23. Hmmm this seems like a weird thread. Lol I've not seen a hand, a bigfoot, UFO, abominable snowman or a werewolf while fishing but have seen bird nests and tree limbs shaking vigorously after casting.
  24. Goodyear Wranglers on my F250 Superduty, good performance in all conditions and low noise. That said, never heard a negative comment regarding Cooper tires.
  25. I've gone to the trouble of throwing every worm in a bucket of water and taking note. When using Neko and shakey head, I prefer a floating worm that stands up on the bottom such as Zman finesse and Zoom finesse. Drop-shot imo is much more about the knot and how it presents the bait. It amazes me how well the hookup ratio is with DS and that little hook is in the top lip everytime......like Roboworms for this technique.
