  1. I don't know how tight your drag is, but maybe loosen it a bit if it doesnt have any give.
  2. The biggest issue IMO is that we can only test our own color spectrum ... all we can determine is that of the colors WE know they see red and green best. For all we know, the slime on a bait which is invisible to us gives off some sort of color to bass.
  3. Sam Griffin wooden baits. I honestly don't throw them too often and I've never caught anything remarkable with them but there's just something about them http://www.snagaway.com/sams/samslures.html
  4. Agree with the advice. Reeling in the slack is likely the issue. What kind of line are you using?
  5. Even if they are, the issue is then determining if the "Line-shyness" is a result of vision or of something they are sensing with their lateral line.
  6. Line is probably long purchased by now but Mr Crappie bulk spools are about the best thing you can purchase for kids reels. Cheap price, available in bright colors, and manages surprisingly well.
  7. Are you fishing Pike or setting the hook on stumps??? Maybe we fish differently but a pitching reels gears see way more wear than a crankbait reels
  8. Same here 3 sprays the night before
  9. The Battle is more of a bait rod and is indeed heavy. If I had to pick a rod to do double duty I'd be looking at Star Rods Stellar Lite series or Tica's Dolphin series of rods. Both can be had for under the $150 you mentioned.
  10. I've always heard you should tighten the drag down before rinsing
  11. How many casts in is it happening? Has it ever happened on the first cast? My bet would be that the line is getting tangled and nicked by the hooks on the lure ... whatever it is it doesn't sound like a knot issue to me. I doubt a cast alone would send a lure flying even if it was just tied on with a double overhand knot.
  12. you should have explained that ... at a $50 discount i wont notice the difference ?
  13. If fished side by side you will. Do the fish care ... idk
  14. Don't dry them in the dryer. What usually ends up happening is parts of the shoe shrink and you end up with a crumpled mess. Sometimes its not immediate, but eventually it will happen.
  15. Buy an RTX 25 and drop the 30 spool in it? https://www.amazon.com/Okuma-RTX-40S-Extremely-Lightweight-Spinning/dp/B00A0PA7NU/ref=asc_df_B00A0PA79O/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312031058067&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15876256087624735597&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028322&hvtargid=pla-571857860395&th=1
  16. Not sure what book I read it in, but someone provided a good explanation based on the fact that the bait is moving and moving ultra-realistic lures do not look like real moving bait. They went on to explain how for stationary crankbaits such as jerkbaits the ultra-realistic finishes may be a good option, but for general crankbaits its better to give the fish a blur they don't recognize than one they recognize is not quite right.
  17. This post is gonna ruffle some feathers but as someone who doesn't have experience with BFS, I am curious to see how the BFS rod powers compare to spinning. I've always been under the impression that spinning allowed you to cast light lures with a heavier power rod.
  18. ^ Excellent reels for the money.
  19. What lb test are you throwing?
  20. Give a kid one good fishing day with a Rat-L-Trap and he will be hooked for life ... there's just something magical about chucking that thing
  21. For me, the issue was not a rough feeling reel, but one that would simply not engage under heavy load. No gear teeth were broken although I'm sure wear was a factor since I had the reel for over 8 years. The issue would probably be lessened or eliminated if the reel has a dual supported pinion gear but graphites typically dont. The design on that reel was also not the best with the bearings mounted on the spool and no bearing on the cast control knob.
  22. If you're stuck on a combo, the Shimano Sienna combo may be worth a look
  23. Same here. It might just be me, but I feel that sensitivity is increased with slower reels and this really helps when trying to avoid getting hung up on weeds
