  1. Yes, degrease. If you can't find actual degreaser, dish soap should do the trick as long as you rinse thoroughly with water afterwards and then rinse alcohol.
  2. Your reels likely won't be exactly like this, but it always helps me to see the process end to end before trying it. This video was extremely helpful when I first started doing my own maintenance. Hope this helps.
  3. Been looking to upgrade a spinning reel and was considering the Nasci but then I came across the Spheros which I don't seem to hear much about. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with them and if they feel the extra $20 is justified.
  4. If Big Game made 6lb, that would be it. If you're strictly looking for casting distance, stretch is probably going to work to your benefit though the distance gained may be negligible. I would image that at 6lb test, lines of similar diameters would cast roughly the same distance. I can't see a 6lb test line having enough memory to have a significant effect on casting distance.
  5. If your goal is strictly to test baits, your best bet would probably be to volunteer at a local high school with the fishing club or form a local organization. I'm inclined to believe that organizations are much more likely to donate to these types of causes as they are not strictly business ventures. I took a couple of paint and body classes at a local community college a couple of years back and I managed to get some paint companies to send us some gear and some local companies to donate paint for free. I do feel that it made a difference to speak as a representative of an organization instead of an individual.
  6. I wouldn't doubt it. I imagine advertisement income > tournament winning income
  7. To anyone else who had considered performing this swap, just got off the phone with Shimano. They informed me that the following parts would need to be changed Key Washer (Not yet available) Upper Drag Washer Lower Drag Washer Drive Gear - BNT6741 Pinion Gear - BNT6738 At about $60 all in, I decided to pass on this gear swap.
  8. I am unable to find a manual for this specific model and was wondering if anyone knew the part numbers for the Main/Pinion Gear for the Curado K PG? Trying to swap the 6.2 on mine for the 5.0
  9. More interested in the spinning reel. Looks great on paper for the price.
  10. What price are you getting the XT at? It isn't hard to find a new Curado K for $140 - $150 on the auction site. No experience with the SLX XT but IMO its worth the extra cash to get X-ship.
  11. Have you reached out to Lew's? They're pretty good about making things right
  12. Don't overthink it ... even if you determine that 8lb PLine gives the lure more side to side wobble and spool up with that, the fish may want the more subdued wobble that 10lb Big Game gives ... at the end of the day we're dealing with a living organism that to some extent makes decisions. Spool what you like and enjoy fishing
  13. I'm surprised this thread lasted this long isn't typical protocol to call a physician if stiffness lasts longer than 4 hours?
  14. I'll give you $20 cash and a half-used pack of senkos
  15. Ii wouldn't worry about it. From what I've noticed, Shimano's ACE2 grease is fairly thick and makes reels act like you're describing. It should cast and work fine. If you want to clean it though, it can't hurt.
  16. No, if you press the thumb bar as if to cast and then spin the spool, does that spin freely? Unless i read it wrong, it sounds like youre slapping the reel handle and only getting it to turn 5 times, right?
  17. If you disengage spool, does that spin freely? The handle spinning doesn't mean much ...
  18. For anyone who owns both, do you consider the SLX MGL a significant upgrade over the Fuego CT? I am considering replacing a Fuego with one to be used for casting smaller crankbaits.
  19. I've used the regular trick worm cut down to half. I usually use the tail end and slit it in half leaving about an inch or so uncut to go onto the jig. Havent used this on a full size jig but its done alright as far as numbers go on booyah baby boo jigs.

The Costa chart is a good guide
  21. As mentioned in another post, https://jimmydsriverbugs.com/shop/ was a pleasure to deal with and a good option to start might be to call him and ask him to tie some up for you based on @WRBs descriptions.
  22. I already know this will be the all-time most underappreciated comment on this forum
  23. Just received my jig order from https://jimmydsriverbugs.com. I noticed the Spring Bear hair jigs on his website and decided to pick up a few. The description on the website reads "This is what a Black Bear is wearing after “sleeping” all winter. The hair is super soft yet strong. The length of the hair is amazing. The Spring Bear’s action is almost “creepy” along the bottom." Anyhow I was wondering what the main differences are between these and bucktail jigs and if anyone has any experience fishing these. I also ordered some bucktail football head jigs and even a red/white one based on his suggestion. Can't recommend this guy enough. Jigs use Mustad hooks and he will tie specific patterns upon request.
  24. I imagine youre going to at least retie the jig, right? What's really saved by leaving it on there until the next trip?
