  1. Varget is ideal for the .308: it's all I use whether for precision, long range or hunting.
  2. A standard ethernet cable would never offer the level of protection and reliability as pin connections on a watercraft. If the Helix 7 is not the "N" version, there is no networking capability. Waypoints will need to be moved between units with an SD card. To network and share waypoints the unit must be the G3N version, which I have on my bow.
  3. The cables are proprietary Humminbird cables with pin connections. My ethernet on my bow Helix 7 is connected to my Ultrex so I would need the Humminbird ethernet switch to network my console Helix 10. I would assume if you have unused ethernet on both it might be as simple as just connecting them via cable. Call HB and they'll tell you exactly what you need for your setup.
  4. As a longtime competitive shooter and hunter who sometimes used tens of thousands of rounds a year, I've weathered this scenario numerous times. The only solution: buy when cheap (or available at all) and stack 'em deep. ? Count on shortages of reloading components until long after the manufacturers of loaded ammo catch up. I think I started reloading back when 50 rounds of 9mm cost $5.99, and I used to buy case quantities of Blazer aluminum for $2.99 at Academy. Yep, those were the days.
  5. Brush jig with craw trailer dragged along has added action/attraction. If I'm going with a worm, it's a trick worm or cut-r, for the same reason, added action/attraction. Seldom reach for a plain ol' stick worm (senko-style). I'm seldom fishing water over 5 feet deep, FWIW.
  6. Amen, brother. Same church, different congregation. [Wetterhorn Basin, Colorado]
  7. One more shot of Bullit for all my fellow dog lovers, pointing a quail wing in my back yard when he was 4 months old.
  8. Buffalo Bill State Park near Cody, Wyoming, taken during last year's annual bird hunting trip out west. That lake almost made me wish I was hauling my boat and tackle rather than travel trailer and bird dogs. ?
  9. A neighbor did the same thing...he doesn't use his bay boat very often, BTW. ?
  10. You can have ours ? Lost one of my favorite out-of-production crankbaits to a five footer that broke off from 10# flouro on a spinning rod when I tried to beach it between my boat and the bank. Wasn't the first lure I've lost to gar, and it won't be the last.
  11. Lots of good advice here. I'd like to re-emphasize, when the bite is tough, more finesse presentations can excel. For that reason, I'm a big fan of a 4- or 5-inch t-rigged Zoom trick worm (or similar) tossed towards any likely target (brush, stumps, laydowns). If you have a lot of submerged branches, dragging a brush jig (like those offered by forum advertiser Siebert) with a craw trailer will not only draw strikes by fishing where bass are likely, like t-rigging, it will reduce the frustration of hang-ups. Some days you're just there at the right spot and time: I was fortunate enough to identify signs of a school of bass in 4 to 5-foot-deep water busting shad at a lake recently. I caught fish after fish, nearly every cast, with a shad swim bait on an underspin and on a crankbait, until the school had eaten its fill. ? Sometimes to find bass you have to observe the birds (herons, etc.) and the water disruptions to find baitfish and identify bass feeding activity.
  12. One final shot of Bullit, as a tiny pup, running with the big dogs with his quail ?
  13. Sponsors also require reports on what the sponsored fisherman is doing to promote product: YouTube is a great opportunity to focus on using sponsor products with easily tracked quantification of how many views that product promotion/placement received.
  14. Like any other business decision: greater return on investment.
  15. Me either. Always gave people on this forum more credit for being polite, friendly and grateful for any useful info being shared with them. I know I was grateful for any nuggets of experience James posted and expected it on his schedule, not ours. He also has a guiding business in addition to his pro career, and guiding is a tough, time-consuming gig.
  16. I feel the same about Falcon rods. I like the Lowrider series and they are sometimes even in stock at Academy. Have the Lizard Dragger and the Heavy Cover Jig rods and find they are sensitive and punch well above their weight class for only $129.
  17. Every bird hunter, if he's lucky, will find a once-in-a-lifetime package of breeding, talent and pure pluck in a canine partner. Bullit (AKA Bayou Bullit, my good ol' boy from Alabam) was mine. He was taken from me too soon, tragically, on his birthday when 14 months old while I was in Alabama with him for a hunt. But whenever I think of him, I like to remember this photo of him as a pup as we caught a little shuteye together on the back patio after a busy morning. He took a piece of my heart when he left me that I've never regained.
  18. An anhinga drying its wings yesterday among the cypress at Lake Martin, La.
  19. Tough break, Fishingguy9922, sympathize. Whether fishing or hunting, I've often been in those circumstances, longing, just once, to get a second bite at the apple. All we can do in those circumstances is keep grinding ?
  20. Caught some nice bass tossing this Texas-rigged to laydowns and cypress trees.
  21. Time on the water, observation/testing, reading (books/magazines/this forum and other internet sources). Always open to more information.
  22. Yup, fish tacos for me for tomorrow's lunch rather than the possibility of feeding the turtles.

  24. You and I are dog people. And every dog who leaves us, and they all leave much too soon, takes a piece of our heart that we will never get back. But it's a gift we freely give them for all the joy they give us in return. My thoughts are with you, brother.
  25. Going to watch it again...so I can take notes ?
